View Full Version : The Basics #7: "Officially" name your team

cthomer5000

It appears we have alignment ironed out (barring a wacky 32nd entry), so to continue my fight against boredom I've compiled everyone who's officially listed their team name/city of reference.

If you have any corrections or changes, this is the place to post them. Let us know what team you'll be heading. I want to start making up my "Rochester NAMES suck" banners now, for my hopefully one-sided rivalry with Kodos.

NOTES
* for those of you with general names (i.e. Minnesota Miners), can you just let me know what your base city is (Minneapolis?).
* A gallery of current helmets can be found here: http://cuervo72.majecc.net/helmets/IHOF.html
* BLUE text indicates missing or unverified info

Springfield will be the Isotopes.

Fairfax will be the Punching Bags

That's right, last time I checked Fairfax was going to be the "Fizz", with a nuclear related logo. The Isotopes would make for a great rival.

How does this look?
http://cuervo72.majecc.net/helmets/Springfield-Isotopes.jpg

Basically found a screenshot of Homer in the opening credits and reconstructed the rod and forceps, but ended up turning the rod into an "I".

That will work fine.

I was looking for the real Springfield Isotopes logo from the show. Unfortunately, it is proving be hard to find, as well as looking similar to the logo usurped by the Team-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named.

I was looking for that too and found some things, possibly for a fake baseball team or two, but didn't know if they were the correct logo and if they were they did look very similar to your competitor's...

There is now a real minor league Albequerque Isotopes, for what it's worth.

I found good pics of those logos, cthomer, but they have that annoying 'A' in the middle which my limited artistic skills wer unable to make into an 'S'. Plus, it does look like the logo of a division rival.

Cuervo, cthomer or anyone who is interested, I'm looking for help with helmet/unis etc. Being the Vicksburg Vipers I was hoping for a pic of a coiled snake with the head rising up, much like a cobra about to strike. However, searches on Vipers only get me pictures of cars. While the Dodge Viper is pretty sweet, it probably won't be too intimidating or look very good on a helmet.

I did find this logo, filched from the GI Joe vs. Cobra cartoon series. If you guys could do anything with this, I'd appreciate it.

I was hoping for black and gold as my primary colors, but if the red is too ingrained, I can deal with red and black.

Dola - In looking at the other members of my division, if you think the "purple haze" looks good, that's ok with me. Black and gold and black and red are already colors in use in the division, so I'm open to a change.

Cuervo,

Can I beg you for a helmet too?

I'm the Conyers Condors. I found some decent logos. I think this is the one I like the best (but am open to suggestions).

For the helmet, it would be cool if you could remove the word Condors and make that whole area black and keep it within the boundries of the circle of the logo if it's not too difficult (does that make any sense?). Any other logo manipulation you want to try is encouraged. I trust your artistic talents. The helmet should be red with a black facemask.

Thanks!

cuervo. I too could use some help. I want something that suggests a Loch Ness Monster type creature coming out of Lake Ontario. I was thinking either a blue helmet with the black creature on it, or a black helmet with a blue patch of water surrounding the silhouette of the creature. I am open to other options, but this is my vision of how it should look.

Ok, these give me something to tinker with tonight. Kodos, I'm sorry if I've been ignoring your monsters, but I was having a hard time finding the right image/idea. I'll make one with the one above.

KWhit - this is what I like, logos already provided :) Removing the text should be doable, hopefully I can find an eps file for it. It's interesting in that it isn't a perfect circle....I might darken the red a bit so it isn't exactly the same as the isotopes (stripes will be in order too).

Primelord, I think I've seen a pretty good rhino at one of the generic logo sites I've encountered (I have to be careful here not to step on any toes).

Solecismic, I was afraid it was actually singular. :) And I should have made your helmet leather....

You did not like Mariners?

Marines?
Mermaids? (Mermen?)
Midshipmen?

Narwhals - not with an M, but a tres cool whale with a long spike. Monodon Monoceros is the species name.

How about:

Minnesota Miners and Manufacturers

Or 3M for short.

Seriously:

Minnesota Miners

Miners, a hard hat with miner's light, entrance to a coal mine, a coal cart, and old timey steam shovel - all could be potential logos.

Minnesota Machine

Gears could make a good logo. Or the steam shovel from above might apply.

Minnesota Minors

A take on the first one above. Logo could be the number 18 with a circle and slash. Of course here in Georgia it'd be a 13 and circle/slash.

Minnesota Lakers

Land of 10,000 lakes and original home of the LA Lakers. Plenty of good logos to borrow.
