View Full Version : Multiple Installs of FOF2004

Hey, I was wondering if multiple instances of FOF2004 on a single computer is possible, advisable or out of the question?
I have completely modified the game making it entirely the USFL of 1983(with a few extra teams). The look and feel, logos, colors and everything has been modified. NOW, I want to set up a mid 1960s NFL Historical League and I don't want to do it on my wifes machine(though if I have to...).
The short of it is:
1) Can you install FOF2k4 multiple time on the SAME machine?
2) Does it require more eLicenses(god help me) so two would be the limit by a single purchase?
3) Ahh, wait, thats it...
Thanks,
T
Quiksand was running multiple installs during the beta testing, so it's possible. I'm not sure about the license thing though.

You should be able to install it as many times as you wish on one PC, it will only use the one license for all of them.

I have a problem in that my savegames and city files are available in both installs. I only wanted to do this for the sake of having my own league and still being able to play multiplayer. The way it looks, whatever league file I put in one instance will carry over to the other. Somehow they are sharing files, beyond simply the license.
Of course I am not any kind of computer whiz, but I can verify that they are in separate directories and that the two exe filenames are different.
So I'm mystified. I can't even get rid of the 2nd install since if I do, there goes my league too. I guess I'll have to download the info on what needs to be saved if I want to delete one of them. Which I do! But this is just as a warning.
AND EXTRA CAUTION!! When I installed my 2nd copy, even though I'd saved everything in the Universe file, it still wiped out my league. All you smart computer guys know why this happened, but if yer dumb like me, don't make any assumptions..

hummmmm...well that's great!
Ok...Quik...someone? Jim(maybe)? What do I need to know about this that I don't(like everything obviously)?
Is there a 'global' seek or sumthin that the files look for and once its found that's all it needs?
I went from jubilant to bummed with a single message :(

I haven't looked at how FOF2k4 is installed yet, but I did multiple installs of TCY-CD Version.
To get that working I had to install it twice into two different directories. Then I had to go into the windows registry and change the install path to the directory that contained the version I wanted to play. I had to constantly change the registry back and forth between the two versions, it was kind of a hassle, but it worked.

dola-
I just tried it and it works fine and only uses one license.
You need to install to a different directory and then change the FULL PATH registry key to whatever install you want to play.

wow...is there a way to fix a shortcut for that registry editing?
I have NO problems playing with the registry, infact, I kinda like that stuff but this is just to make it easier(lazy factor creepin in).
Well, on second thought, I guess if I only change the version maybe every month...that might not be so bad...hummmm, you got me thinkin know, and that makes me dangerous :)

I was running two FOF windows/games at the same time. Does that screw anything up? One I was leaving on for my MP league and the other one I was opening and closing at will for my personal league.

Not exactly true... I was deleting and re-installing when I was switching between beta versions in order to write the beta diary. So, I never had multiple separate installs. I know the installation asks if you want to overwrite any previous version of FOF 2004 when you launch it, though. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Thrym,
How did you set up the league as the USFL. What teams did you enter? Where did you get the logos? What do you have salary cap inflation at? Did you use real or fake rosters? Can you tell me how you set it up and where I can get some of these files? I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Mike

I have really kinda frozen my work on this now...but I am about 90% done.
I started with entirely fantasy rosters...BUT...I started it a year earlier than the USFL really did(I think), in 1982. This lets me run one season and then in the 1983 entry draft I use ALL the famous players from the days, Jim Kelly, Steve Young, Doug Flutie, Reggie White, Zimmerman...man when you look at the list of NFL stars that started off in the USFL, it boggles the mind!
Anyway, logos can be found here, http://www.logoshak.com at least about 11 of the 18/19...I used ALL the logos as if they all joined at once...and to round out the total I had to dip into 'fantasy' a bit...for the sake of setting up a 32 team league. You'll have to search and fill out the teams with what YOU think is plausible AND to suit your tastes.
I went to the NFL for a couple, struggling franchises...as well as looking at the list of TOP 50 cities in the US and picked from those not represented by NFL teams but who have the population base to merit a team(IMHO). Just look at the few cities with one of the BIG FOUR pro sports(minus NFL) and run with it. I used Portland, Sacramento, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Austin...oh, sorry to be rattling, another site where you can get logos is here: http://www.logoserver.com/ and a good deal of info was gleaned from the various USFL fan sites, here is one: http://www.thisistheusfl.com/ and another: http://www.remembertheusfl.8m.com/ (most of the missing logos came from that site). Another one with GREAT pics is here: http://www.oursportscentral.com/usfl/
Anyway, hope this helps...I am questioning my abilities with rosters, I can get the names, physical attributes and date of birth but, beyond that...I think everyone would have a hard time evaluating a young Jim Kelly or Hershel Walker...its all subjective.
If I can help, let me know but beyond moral support, I don't know if I will be releasing anything else...sorry for being an unhelpful SoB...

Can we install on two different machines? I would like to install on my laptop at work. Or do I have to purchase the game again?
Sorry if this has been asked before but I did a search and this is the only topic I found.

Yes, you get two licenses with each purchase.

Thanks Sloan...Dumb question#1: How do I go about doing this?
Do I just redownload the entire game?
Then enter the same order confirmation # when asked?

Correct

can you not add extra keys in the registry to get it to work?

Dola, but if that will not work, how about a .reg file that you can simply import before you play. You can have a seperate one in each directory, and it would save you the hassel of trying to change registry settings.
