3rd round cup match

Alright, 3rd round match is less that 12 hours away I had decided that I didn't stand a chance against my opponent. He's last in D.IV and pulls a passable-solid midfield. My plan was to just use the match for training purposes with 3 forward trainees. But I came down on myself for at least not giving it a go.

So, here's the delimma, I'm gonna lose BUT do I stay with my original plan and go with the trainees, or put all my starters out and hope for the best. My better side says, play trainees pic and just win the league.

He always runs the same formation; a 3-5-2 with the right wb to inner mid, left wb towards middle, right winger and innermid offensive and left winger and innermid defensive.

And is it pointless to duke it out this match and if I were to win, only to get totally hammered next round?

Tactics? AOW, Pressing, MOTS, keeping in mind I'm in D.VI all bot opponets.

What would you do? Or would you throw in the towel?

im kind of in the same situation. div vi team going against a div iv team. im going for it though. i should only loose the midfield by 1 level at the most. but his forwards are pretty darn tough.
im going for it though. ill just hope he plays his subs and pics.

as for you, i would say attack his right side. maybe AOW's depending on how strong your wingers are and how strong his center attack is. of course you could always press or counter-attack depending on you lineup and the midfield differences also. there is a lot more info needed to really make a decision.

To me, it all depends on what you value the most: training or making a few bucks off one more cup match. We all know we won't win the Cup, so it's either "win and be in for another round" or "let it go and take the money now"...

For me, I do all my strategy planning on the Saturday before my league match. That way, I know who will play on the league match and on the Cup match, especially for my trainees. All my non-trainees get double duty while I'm still in the Cup.

I see the Cup matches as nice possibilities to make some extra money, but I would never sacrifice my training to win one cup match. This means all of my inner mids will get their training, either in league play or cup play. Depending on my opponent in both the league and the Cup, I will mix and match who plays when.

Is it pointless to duke it out this match and if I were to win, only to get totally hammered next round? Who cares if you get hammered next round, that would be some nice money on an unplanned home match with a potentially big crowd.

If you are stuck this morning and asking us, should I give up this week of training to make it one round further in the Cup, I'd say no. If by trainees you mean your B team (of which about 3-5 get training depending on what you train), then I say screw the B team, play your A teamers at non trained positions and PIC and hope for the best.

i was able to get my trainiees in my league match since it was an easy pic. so im not loosing any training by going for it in my case, well maybe 1 training position, but its fine.

sounds like cosmicjello didnt get to plan that far ahead. but depending on your stadium size, 1 more week in the cup can mean a lot. for me 1 more week is around 50k extra income that week. its kind of hard to pass up.

saintjo, yeah my answer was more to CosmicJello as I got the feeling you had planned ahead of time and he had not...

Yeah, 50k is some nice money, and the training results can't be seen right away, but one day you will have a formidable (insert what you train here) and he will be worth almost 20 times that, at that time, selling him one week earlier will mean you get to buy a very strong player one week earlier... I know that early on, money is hard to come by. My answer probably doesn't apply to anybody other than me, I was more presenting how I think when I make that kind of decision... How's that they say, give a man a fish, feed him for a day, teach him how to shop for a fish, blah blah :)

On a side note, I just lost my 3rd round french cup :( To a guy not playing anymore, too... I just have a too important league game on saturday so pretty much sacrificed the cup... Still feels kinda sad though...

Young formidable defenders go for $1-1.5 million depending on secondaries and age. The only thing to keep in mind is, there will be a significant drop in your defense ratings if you don't have a safety net below them.

I played a 4-5-1 last season, hated how I got screwed, so I switched to a 3-5-2 and sold off my 2 formidable defenders between seasons. With those changes, I've noticed a total loss of 5-6 ratings points in the 3 defense areas. I do have 2 guys who were 3 weeks from popping to formidable, so that helps, but if you've got mid solids as backups for example, you will lose a LOT of your defensive strength, so be prepared for that.

Money is good, but talent lasts longer, especially when you reach the point where everyone on your team is solid or better, and you'll need at least 500K to make a significant upgrade.

How to play your cup match:

never sacrifice training for the result of one cup match. Mostly its a matter of principle but you are also setting yourself up for disappointment. if you sacrifice some training and end up losing anyway you are going to be really pissed at yourself. Trust me, I know from experience.

never sacrifice league position for your cup match either, again for the same reason. The only exception is if you think your chances of doing well in the cup are better then your chances of doing well in your league. For example, if winning one cup match could cost you first place in your division its not worth it. But if you are in a division where you will likely demote anyway then focusing your strength on the cup might be beneficial.

I suggest that you play the best you can without sacrificing elsewhere. You never know what your opponent will do. He could field a team that can beat you no matter how hard you try, or he could under-estimate you, use a PIC, have an injury or a red card, etc. If you have easy league matches (ie bots) then MOTS. take some chances. try to attack your opponents weak spots as best you can, even if it makes you vulnerable somewhere else. If your league is competative and you need every advantage you can get to get a decent placing, then forget about the cup and concentrate on your league. PIC your cup match so your TS is stronger for league matches. (who knows you might win anyway). Whatever you do though I dont suggest sacrificing training, from my experience its not usually worth it. hope that helps
