FOF scouting question

In the player profile screens, where it has the player's personal info, affinities, etc on the left, and the scouting reports on the right - next to each attribute (for QBs, screen passes, short passes, medium passes, etc etc), there is a button, and some buttons are a certain color, and others are another color, red, blue, black, brown, gray, etc - what in the heck do these mean?

edit: I'm referring to FOF4, not 2004, in case that confused anybody.
