Hey, all -

Somewhat anecdotal, but I'm not in a research mode so I figure I'd toss the idea out.

Field Goals in the NFL this season: 556/685 = 81%

Projected FG for this season: 787/970 = 81%
Field Goals in 2002: 737/951 = 77%
Field Goals in a test FOF5 league: 817/1106 = 74%

Given, it's just a single season. But about 10-15% too many attempts, and a slightly lower percentage of made FGs. I'm looking for stats over more seasons - both real NFL and FOF5. Too many FG attempts/misses would have an impact on the number of ties as well.

Just a thought.

I haven't really compiled much info on this, but I simmed about 45 years and was reviewing some of the records, and noticed quite a few guys with 40+ FGs made per year. One guy, a HoF'er, had the record with 47 FGs made, and he attempted 59. Every year of his career, he made between 30 and 47 FGs, but missed at least 9-15 per year.

I know it's only one guy, but this seems to support what you're seeing on a global basis. Too many attempts, too many made, but a lower percentage made than should be.

I agree FG %'s are too low in FOF 5. I don't have the hard numbers, but looking down the list makes me believe a lot of kickers are sucking waaaaaay too much.

Can you give info on the league? What rosters are you using? Mature league, or first season?
