Before the 2005 Season in my Seahawks franchise I badly needed to sign a defensive tackle. During Free Agency I saw Corey Simon who played all 16 games for Philadelphia the year before. Although his stats weren’t spectacular with the Eagles, he was only in his sixth season and had room to grow. His ratings were 61/66, so I decide to make him a 6-year offer worth 45.69 million, which he accepted.
His price tag was a little spendy and I knew that in his later years he would be eating up over ten million worth of cap room, but I thought he would be worth it. This guy was still developing and I thought I had a left defensive tackle for years to come.
Year 1 (2005)
Corey Simon broke his fibula in the first week and wouldn't come back until week 8 against the 49ers. After that he finished the season without a hitch. We were 6-5 with him and 3-2 without him.
G/GS: 11/11
Tackles: 34
Assists: 17
Sacks: 3

Year 2 (2006)
Corey Simon got injured in the 7th week against the Lions. This time he tore his rotator cuff and missed the rest of the season. We were 4-3 with him and 5-3-1 without.
G/GS: 7/7
Tackles: 23
Assists: 12
Sacks: 2.5

Year 3 (2007)
Simon injures himself in the preseason with a strained tendon that kept him from missing the opener. He played healthy until week five where he broke his ankle and didn’t play again until week 15 against the Rams. From there he would finish up the season without incident, but the team finished in last place at 6-10. While he played we were 3-4.
G/GS: 7/7

Sacks: 2.5

Year 4 (2008)
In the preseason Simon strained his rotator cuff and was listed as probable. I wasn’t going to risk him getting injured more severely so I threw him on the inactive roster and waited until he fully healed. I reactivated him right before the 4th week. In his first game back he hyper extended his knee and was out for another 5 weeks.
He comes back for his second game of the season against the Giants in week 10 where he hyper extends his knee again and is thrown back on the inactive roster. Then six weeks later Simon dresses up again and finishes the final two games of the season. The Hawks managed to go 13-3 on the season and had a first round playoff bye.
In the 1st game we played in the playoffs Corey Simon suffered a high ankle sprain and was out 16 weeks. I threw him on IR and finished the season winning my first Super Bowl. We were 3-1 in the regular season while he played.
G/GS: 4/4

Assists: 1
Sacks: 2

Year 5 (2009)
In the first week of the pre season Corey Simon gets injured again. This time he requires reconstructive knee surgery. His return to full health is late 2010, and by that time his contract will be up.

What a huge waste of money Corey Simon was for me. He still has a year left on his contract, but I need to release him. I don’t care if he can come back and play the last half of the season. I don’t want him playing on my team. My guess is that he will come back rated somewhere around 25/25, or at least that’s what I hope.
Another thing I wanted to point out was his ratings over the years he’s played for the Seahawks. Even though he has been injured so much, he is still rated highly at 62/63. Too bad he only played in 29 games out of 80 through five years. What a joke…
Here is how much he was paid for being on my team.
1.57 million per game
506K per tackle
1.23 million per assist
4.56 million per sack
2.28 million per hurry
