I don't know why I find injuries in this game so fascinating, but I have one that I thought was sort of cool.

Warren Bostic came into the 2004 draft as the second highest rated running. I though he would surely be a top round pick because his current rating was 58 with a future of 70. I thought this guy would have a great career.

He slid to the 13th overall pick where the New England Patriots grabbed him up and made him their starting running back. It appeared that the decision was brilliant as Bostic rushed for 1,137 yards on 255 carries with 5 touchdowns as a rookie. He also started every game for New England, but in the first game of the playoffs he tore an ankle ligament. His Patriots lost and he went into rehab. Before the injury he was rated 60/68.

The Patriots didn't sign a FA running back in the 2005 off-season in hopes Bostic would return, but he wasn't nearly the running back that rushed for 1,000+ the year before. His ratings had dropped drastically to 39/45. Although his ratings were down he earned the starting spot because of a terrible New England backfield.

He started the first 9 games only rushing for 283 yards on 79 carries (3.5YPC) with just 1 touchdown. After that he tore his rotator cuff and missed the rest of the season. His Patriots finished a miserable 1-15.

Bostic came back healthy in 2006 and earned the starting spot because New England used their first overall pick on a brilliant CB. Throughout the season it became apparent that Bostic was not going to lead the team in the future. He started all 16 games but only carried the ball 187 times for 736 yards and 2 touchdowns. After the season New England released him. He was only rated 39/42.

The 2007 season rolled around and New Orleans offered Bostic a 1-year contract worth 680k as a backup spot behind Clinton Portis. Bostic accepted and played through 6 games where he rushed 61 times for 223 yards (3.6YPC) with no touchdowns. In week 7 against Seattle he tore his Patellar tendon and missed the rest of the season. His ratings before the injury were 40/41. The injury was enough for the Saints not to resign him.

2008 started and ended while Bostic sat in the free agent pool injured and unsigned. Nobody offered him a penny. His ratings were way down at 22/25.

After the 2008 season ended, Bostic hung up his cleats. I guess he knew his time was up. In all, Bostic played 4 seasons. He ran the ball 582 times for 2,379 yards with 8 touchdowns. This all came from a guy who was rated a 60/68 after his rookie year.

Another interesting thing I noticed is how New England has done since Bostic was injured in the 2004 playoffs.
05: 1-15
06: 5-11
07: 8-8
08: 4-12
09: 9-7

To me, it looks like Bostic set the team back 4 years. They didn’t get another decent running back until the signed Tiki Barber in 2009.

I've got a career going with something similar as well as some interesting FA issues popping up. I'm am currently writing a dynasty about it now and will begin to post it when it is completed fully.

Nice writeup! It has been said there are hidden ratings like "prone to injury" lurking behind the shadows of this game. I don't even want to see this guys rating!
