Perhaps, since the history of the village challenge was lost, you could provide us with a narrative summary up until this point. Explain the history of the team, the great players, etc. I'll grant you that it's nothing like the deep hitory of the deleted narrative, but you could pour through the stats and put out something that would at least put the new posts into perspective.

Of course, that is a lot of work for me to ask of y'all, but I'm a sucker for links to the past.

As the "keeper of the rules" and also the manager of the current season, i can give a little more info.

We are in the year 2006. We have some ground rules that we never posted on the site, but have been passed around via e-mail.

Some of the main guidelines are that each person runs 2 back to back seaons and then passes it on. The goal is to get that done within a week. Also we have a Keeper list. Each person puts a person on the list, and we keep that person on the team for their entire career. When they retire, the person who put them on the list, gets to put another person on the list durring/after their next tenure as manager.

2005 Off-Season

After assessing the Browns situation I have come up with 6 changes I want to try for.

The first is to let go of Force, the second is to get a good Safety, third, a great young WR prospect, fourth to refine or skills and drop an Offensive formation the fifth is to get our profits back up. The final change I want to make is... get to and win the FOF Bowl! http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~fof/ubb/wink.gif

Force comes back to us a year wiser, and with a few improvements, none in disciplne though. Unfortunaltly, with 10 head coach changes around the league, the prospects left to us are unworthy of taking the Browns to the big game. Force gets at least one more chance. It's probably his last.

Having not made the playoffs last year I don't raise regular ticket prices. But with the High demand for our stadium, I increase the Club and Box prices a bit, we have about the 5th most expensive tickets right now.

3 Trade offers come in, none of which are worth our time.

Canty(S) and Pickens(WR) refuse to negotiate with us due to playing time. We look to free agency to pick up a replacement for each of them. After the dust settles, we resign one of the 3 WR's, and the other 2 are both left unsigned. Pickens agent still won't talk to us and it looks like we'll have to take the cohesion hit. I'm still looking at WR or S as the bigest area of need for the draft.


We trade our 1,2,5 and 6 To carolina to move up in the first round to number 9.

We make it through pre-season with a 4-0 record. The only down side is we loose nickel back Terrel Buckly for most of the season with a torn ACL.

A close game that didn't see us take the lead 'til the middle of the 4th qtr.

At the half we're up 17-3. At the end of the third things look wrapped up as we hold a 24-13 advantage, but then we fall apart in the fourth, as the Jaguars come back to tie it 24-24. Another gritty defensive struggle. The Browns lead 3-0 at the half, but are down 14-9 at the two minute warning. With some great running by Sheen, the Browns pull to the Titan's 28. Then with 1:07 left, Blaine Davies finds Terrell Owens in the Endzone for 6. Davies and Owens connect again for the two pointer.

As time winds down the browns get a last second (literally) field goal for the win. The win was spurred on by 4 turnovers forced by the Brown's Defense. The only down side, is RT Flozel Adams goes down for a few games.

Cleveland(7-3)-6 at Seattle(5-5)
The Browns gave 2 attempts in the first quarter, but came away with no points, and Davies injured. In the second quarter the Seahawks generated back to back TD drives. Not to be out-done back up QB Sieh settled in and with the help of Sheen and WR Harvey Wallace generated 2 TD drives of his own to keep it close (14-12 Seattle at the half). Kitna opened the second half with a TD drive capped by his third scoring pass of the afternoon. The Seahawks looked secured their lead (24-12) with a fieldgoal late in the third. But 2 long passes later (31 yards to Woodson, 44 yds to Wallace) the Browns were back in the game 24-19. In an attempt to eat the clock the Seahawks managed another field goal. With 2:03 left, down 27-19 the ball on their own 13, things looked bleak for Cleveland. Sieh missed on his first two passes... but on third and 10, he found Wallace again, this time for 40 yards! Then again for 16. Sieh then took it up the middle himself for 5. His next play he pump faked to Wallace in double coverage, then found TE Ronald Stark alone at the ten... Stark made the grab, bowled through the LB on coverage, and rumbled into the end zone!! But with 41 seconds, and only a one point lead the Browns couldn't be sure as Kitna aired out a 43 yard bomb... only to have it picked off by Rookie CB Christian Ferderer!

These are the kinds of games we've been loosing this season... After Sieh's performance last week, Davies is put back in. Also DT B.J. Mudgett is probably out for the season. Second Year DE Matt Champion will be starting for him as an upgrade from his pass rush specialist role. With a pair of TD's and a FG apiece, the teams go into overtime. With 12:57 left, after the D held off the Rams first OT drive, we get the ball at the 11... Davies to Owens incomplete, Davies to Owens for 17, Sheen for one, a drop by Hatchette and faced with 3rd and 9. Sheen carries one outside for 16! Davies underneath to Stark for 6. Davies over the top to Wallace for a big 33! Inside FG range, Force surprises everyone with 4 pass plays that lead into the endzone, instead of going for 3. Probably to show he still supports his QB even after 3 4th quarter turnovers, all on drives that could have finished the game without the extra period.

In what proves to be a pretty easy win, the Browns blank the Bengals for the first half, and then only loose 4 points off of their 14 point margin of victory. A solid effort on all sides of the ball!

Cleveland (11-4) vs. Jacksonville(11-4)
The game of the season, for the AFC Central, home field advantage, and big time bragging rights. The Browns lost in week 2 to the Jags down in Florida, and hope to settle the score here on Monday Night Football! Most of the first quarter is a battle for field position, until Ty Law picks off a Mario O'Donnell pass and returns it to the Jaguars 29. Sheen then takes it for 13, and Davies follows with a 16 yard TD strike to Owens! O'Donnell shows composure not expected from only a 2 year vet and comes right back with a 70 yard bomb to bring the score to 7-7! Not to be out done, Davies Sheen and Owens engineer a 73 yard TD drive on their next possession. Both D's settle in until the middle of the third quarter when the Browns put together another long drive. This one Owens 30 yard catch of a Davies pass on 3rd and 14th, followed soon after by a 9 yard Sheen run for the score! 21-7 Browns http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~fof/ubb/smile.gif After another great showing by Cleveland's Defense, the Browns offense comes alive yet again. This time in the form of a 55 yard TD pass by Davies to backup tight End Bobby Lofton. The jaguars leapt back into the game on the next drive with another O'Donnell bomb. this time for 87 yards! After Jacksonville holds the Browns on their next drive, a Cleveland Special teams collapse allows a 75 yard punt return to close the gap 28-21. Again Cleveland stalls out and the Jaguars come up with a field goal in the middle of the 4th quarter. The Browns feel the tide turning, and need a big drive to keep the game from going to Jacksonville. As sheen sputters, Davies holds on to the ball for 3 QB draws. He also hits on 2 key passes, before he gets turf toe from a vicious hit. Sieh comes in on 3rd and 7 and hits sheen out of the backfield for 10 yards and the first down! Sieh hits stark for 9 yards on another 3rd and 7. And then Sheen puts the finishing touch on the game with an 18 yard burst for a score at 1:10 left in the game.

These two teams meet up for a re-match of the week 12 thriller, where the Browns won by one in Seattle. Seattle hasn't lost a game since. The AFC championship should be a great one here on CBS...
The Browns take an early 17 to 7 lead with two Davies passes for over thirty yards before the 2 minute warning in the first half. But the play that signals how this season has really gone for the Browns is the next offensive play, which sees Rufus Duke bring down the Seattle ball carrier for a loss in the endzone, giving the Browns a 19 to 7 half time lead. The Seahawks try to rally with 10 4th quarter points, but fall short on their final drive as the ball is intercepted by Leomont Evans with 28 seconds to go and returned 84 yards for the final score!

Terrell Buckley and Charles Mincy retire after long and distinguished careers. Mincy holds the Cleveland records for Tackles and INT's

With his first Bowl win Force earns himself a raise, and an off-season without looking over his shoulder.

We have 7 Free agents, including starting Right DT Christian Peter who had a career best 7.5 sacks in only 12 starts. Peter was asking more then management was willing to pay last year. At ten years he's not getting any younger, and the jury is out on where he'll be at the end of this year. But for now we'll franchise him and try to keep our starting lineup relatively intact.
The other FAs are all backups we don't care too much about. The biggest loss will be Orlando Kennicott who has been a great backup to Sheen, rushing for over 50 times and 240 yards each of the past two seasons.

As our last act of the "pre-offseason" we raise the ticket prices to keep in line with the rest of the premier teams in the leagues.

We need to focus on keeping or acquiring back-up runners. We also need to add depth in the secondary and perhaps along the D-line.

For cohesion sake I don't see a major run for FA talent. We have 6.7 in cap space, 4 mil of which is devoted to the draft.

We come out of re-negotiations and Free agency with keeping 2 of our backups. 2 more remain unsigned, but want more then they are worth. We loose Kennicott.

Looking over the draft we see a few mid range prospects, so hold our own picks. With the first Pick of the draft KC selects their 3rd Defensive line man in the top five picks of the draft in as many years. Suspecting a poor season again for them this year we trade our draft picks in rounds 4,5,6,7 this year and next years 2nd rounder for their 2007 first rounder. This will free up some space to sign our Franchise player, as well as help us get an impact player next season with 2 first rounders to work with.

To make up some space to sign them, we trade 3rd string Center Scott Downs plus the 2007 5,6 and 7 to the Rams for their number 2 in 2007. We also renegotiate Peter's 3.5 mil franchise deal to a more cap friendly 2.2/2.45/3.2 Deal

I want to trade Ty Law, as we are deep and young at CB, but I want to try to repeat and he is signed for this year and next. The cohesion and leadership he provides will be helpful while defending our title. (Subby, if he doesn't retire you should probably try to get a 2007 or 2008 first rounder for the old man. We won't be able to pay all the bills on our current secondary personnel in the years to come.)

I'm thinking about FS J.R. Quinn or RB Donnie Sheen as my keeper but I'll make my decision at the end of the season.

QB Blaine Davies, DT B.J. Mudgett and LB Rufus Duke are currently on the list. The one thing I couldn't secure was a young WR stud http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~fof/ubb/frown.gif but... oh well.

Cleveland (8-1) vs Jacksonville (5-4)
The first quarter saw two Jacksonwille TD's (one an 87 yard bomb, the other a 50 yard scoring drive that started from a Sheen Fumble) Sheen redeemed himself on the last drive ofthe Quarter with a 41 yard scoring run. But Mario O'Donnell, the hottest young QB in the league, drove the Jag's 80 yards back down the field to re-gain their 14 point lead. On the next drive Davies went down with Sprained Back and that was all she wrote. The Browns fought on, but could never climb out of the whole without their leader.

Cleveland (9-2) vs Washington (7-3-1)
The Redskins start off keying on Sheen and holding him in check, after scoring a field goal, they focus on Sheen again, only to get burned deep for a score by a Sieh to Wallace connection. The D holds, and the Browns mix it up well on a long scoring drive. After a bad Washington punt in the second quarter Sheen is the focus of another scoring drive, and brings it in from the 18 to put the Browns up 21-3. As the Browns celebrate on the sideline, a Washington player turns their first offensive play into a 79 yard scoring run http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~fof/ubb/frown.gif But the Browns only take 9 plays to drive 82 yards on the next possision to get back their large lead and take it into half time. The Redskins start the half with the ball but throw an interception that turns into 3 more points for the Browns. The Redskins let another turnover, this one a blocked punt, add to the Browns scoreboard. Washington starts to get desperate and goes for the long pass... Connecting on 2, they start to close the scoring gap. 38-17 As the third qtr. winds down, Washington gets a special teams break, blocking a punt and getting 7. 38-24... Both Defenses stiffen up in the 4th Qtr, and washington watches the time slip by. Still trying to air it out the Skins put up another long one, this time it comes down in the hands of Cleveland's Leomont Evans. The Browns can't capitilize on this one though, but enough time has elaapsed that it becomes academic. Both teams wind up scoring agian but there is nothing that Washington can do to make up for the first half deficit. The Browns held the ball for over 40 minutes in this game!

Cleveland (11-3) at New York J (7-7)
The Browns have a lock on the playoffs, but are fighting for the Division title, and home field advantage. The Jets are fighting for a wild card spot, but are a long shot to make it... Things start out according to plan, as the Browns D shuts down the Giants and Sheen runnig sets up play action pass to Ownes for a Touchdown. Both teams stall a bit with the first Qtr score ending Browns 7, Jets 3. After another Jet's field goal the gets the game close, the browns shy from teh game plan and go to Sieh's arm to try to bring some excitment to the game. And excitements is what they get, but for the Jets as they pick off a Sieh pass in Cleveland Territory. The jets eventualy convert it for 7 and go into half time, up 12-7. Coach Force looses his cool and after 2 NY drives that eat up time and add 3 points to the Jets score each, abandons the running game (which the jets had been holding moslty in check) to go to the air. Sieh fails to get any drives going, and the Browns watch in horror as the Jets manage to put 7 more on the board midway through the fourth. The score is now 25-7 and looks insurmountable. But Sieh finaly gains some composure and puts together a nice scoring drive including his successful 2-point conversion pass. The Jets recover the onside kick however, and manage to add a fieldgoal. On the next drive, Sieh gets a 44 yard and a 14 yard shot to Woodson, and a 14 yard scoring pass to Wallace with a minute twelve remaining. The score is 28-22 Jets. Again, though, the Jets come up with the onside kick recovery and the Browns comeback falls short.

Again Sheen is held in check as the Bengals score early and force Force to abandon the running game. With the game still close at the middle of the third, the Browns fumble a punt return on their own 16. The Bengals scored their third TD and took a 21-10 lead. An exciting game set for us today, we have the number 1 and number 3 rushing offenses here today. The Bills start off great on both sides of the ball, after shutting down the Browns first drive, they get the ball down to the 10, before they have to settle for a field goal. But a few drives later, teh Browns tie it up with a field goal of their own. Early in the second quater, the Browns take the leade with the games third field goal. The browns Manage to get into Buffalo teritory near the 2 minute warning, but one of Sieh's passes is picked off to shut down that drive. The bills can't move the ball and give it back. Again the Brown's enter Bills teritory but their D forces andother turnover, sacking Sieh and making him fumble. But with time running out inthe half, nothing can be made of it. 6-3 Browns lead at the Half.
On their first posession of the Half, tow penalties pin the Bills back at their own 11 where any hope for a dive stalls out. A bad punt and good return give the Browns excellent field position. It takes Sheen only 3 plays to run the 36 yards to the Endzone! 13-3 Browns!
The Browns D holds the Bills to only 7 yards on their next drive. The Browns take the opportunity to enlarge their lead with great mix of passing and rushing. The drive is capped by a 22 yard pass to Wallace. With a little under a quarter and a half to go, Buffalo is starting to fade away. As the fourth quarter gets underway Bufflo manages to finish a scoring drive with 2 long Rob Johnson passes that pulls them back to within ten.
Cleveland thwarts a Bills scoring opportunity by Sacking Johnson on a goalline pass play and forcing him to cough up the ball. The Bills get the ball back soon though, and this time manage to score and pull with in three. With under 5 minutes left, the Bills go for the onside kick, but luckily the Browns recover. The Browns then move down the shortend field, while eating up more clock time, and score on a 17 yard pass to Wallace. With a little over 2 minutes left, only 2 timeouts, and a 10 point deficet the game is out of reach. The Bills come up empty on their next drive, failing even to get onto the Cleveland side of the field.

Likely the best matchup in the AFC. Both teams put up more then 400 points this season! The punts start flying in the first quater as both Defenses show they are playoff calibre as well. Near the end of the quarter, the Browns force a fumble on a Sack by Matt Champion. Sheen takes it in from the 8 yard line on the next play. 7-0 Browns!
More punts, until the Browns put together the first real scoring drive of the Game midway through the second quarter. Sheen gets most of the yardage, with a couple of key 3rd down passes added in. The 70 yard drive is finished off with a 5 yard run by Sheen. Indy manages to finish the half with a field goal to get on the board. 14-3 Browns at the half.
On the opening drive of the half, the colts go DEEEEP on 3rd and 4, the ball flutters down the Cleveland 19, where Jerald Mummert of the Browns grabs it out of the air. Mummert then dodges most of the Colts offense on his 81 yard return! The Colts then go 3 and out and 2 plays later Sheen rumbles for 50 yards and another Browns TD. With 28-3 lead, the game looks to be wrapped up... But wait there's more... Manning comes alive and orchistrates 2 nice drives for TD's, along with a 2 pointer. The Quarter ends 28-18 with Indy gaining momentum. The brwons drive into Colts territory, but are stopped by an interception. The colts can't capitilize, and let the game slip past. The teams exchange Field goals but that's all they can manage in the fourth.

Cleveland (13-5) at Pittsburgh (12-5)
these two teams slplit the regular season series. They have not met since week six of the season, where Pittsburgh won in Cleveland. The Steelers can't do anything on their first drive, and are forced to punt, Parrish fails to call for a fair catch, and get's leveled just as he catches the ball, it comes loose, and a Steeler falls on it at the Cleveland 24. http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~fof/ubb/frown.gif The Steelers O missfires on 3 straight plays, and can only convert a FG. The Steelers D then holds the Browns the 3 and out, on the ensuing punt, the Steelers take the return all the way back, and are up by ten with less then 7 minutes of football played! http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~fof/ubb/frown.gif Both teams Defense start to hold, and the Browns manage a field goal near the end of the first qtr. A bad Pittsburgh punt gives the Browns good field position. Sheen takes advantage and with 4 runs for 26 yards plus two quick passes to the wideouts Sheen ties the game on a run from the 9! 10-10 The steelers spend almost all of the rest of the second quarter in 2 drives that both result in missed field goals. With 2:22 left in the half, the Browns start on their 32. Sheen is stoped on first and second, but on a key 3rd down, the Steelers are penalized, and the Browns awarded an automatic first down. Sieh then hits Woodson for 30 yards down to the Steelers 33. Sheen does the rest, and 3 plays laters is in for the score! 17-10 Browns at the half. The Defense has been amazing to this point, holding the Steelers Offense out of the endzone, their only scores resulting from poor special teams play.
Clevleand starts off the next half eating 4:30 off the clock, but on a crucial 3rd and 4, Sieh is sacked and the Browns are forced to punt. Niether team can get anything going in the Third Quater, and the excitement is building on the Browns Sideline. But another special teams foul up, this time a 25 yard punt, that starts the Steelers drive on the Browns 34, entualy leads to a Steelers TD. 17-17 with most of quarter to go.
The Browns go 3 and out on their next drive, and when the Pitt return man fumbles, the Browns can't cover it up and the Steelers manage to come away with it. Again both teams stall out, until with under 5:00 to play, the steelers break a big 40 yard run to inside the Browns 15 http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~fof/ubb/frown.gif Two plays later they lead 24-17 with only 3:30 left to go in the game. Unfortunatly Sieh can't rally the troops and they go 3 and out... The Steelers then run out the clock, as they head to the Supper bowl

Anyways, the team's still in great shape and though we lost our title, we're still a top team, one of a few that can be competitive EVERY year.
That is a great accomplishment.

btw : do you believe that I drafted LB Farmer in the 7th round...and he's still a starter on our team almost a decade later.
I remember knowing I had a steal there...but he's gone even farther than what i expected of him.

<font face="Arial"><font size=2>This is a DEEP team. Going into free agency, it appears that we need a DT, WR, and S. We are deepest at o-line and cornerback, but find ourselves $770K over the cap. It’s a good bet that we will be extremely active on draft day. On to free agency…

Offers for S Quinn and FB Bednarik are summarily rejected.

There are some good players available in free agency, but the prices are so high we decide to take a pass and see what draft day brings.</font></font>

<font face="Arial"><font size=3>The Draft</font></font>
<font face="Arial"><font size=2>We begin the draft with two 1st round picks (26,27), a 2nd round pick (28), a 3rd (26), and a 4th (26). This is the deepest draft I have ever seen with respect to safeties, but it is incredibly weak in one of our other need areas: DT. There are some insanely good o-line guys, but we fall in love with a maxed-out linebacker and look to trade.

We trade our two 1st and one 2nd round pick to Atlanta for the fourth pick in the draft. We say good-bye to long time CB Ty Law, who is traded to Minnesota for the first pick in the 2nd round. With the immense talent playing behind Law, we feel like we can make a move like this.

The salary purge continues as we move longtime starter WR Terrell Owens, and backups WR Matthew Hatchette, LB Bo Ottesen, and two 4th round draft picks (2007, 2008) for the Giants’1st round pick (9). We move several backups (DT Dwayne Sellers and LB Don Bradenburg) to Seattle for their 1st round pick (13). Finally, we trade our 3rd round pick from this year and next year to Baltimore for their 2nd round pick next year (2008).* Time to draft.

A big problem with Sieh is his low rating in both passing accuracy and passing power -*so I am hoping Chapman can develop into a better backup. Once Chapman progresses we can deal Sieh for two first round picks.</font></font>

<font face="Arial"><font size=2>We get a post draft trade offer for Rufus Duke , but we are laughing too hard at the offer of Ken Dilger to consider it seriously.

All the deals leave us about 12 million to sign our seven draft picks plus the six free agents we’ll need to plug roster spots. We fill out our roster and move on to training camp approximately one million under the cap.

After training camp, we receive offers for Sheen and Quinn. They are rejected immediately. We sell 100% of our season tickets.

Our cohesion stands at mediocre – several of our draft day moves have given us a bit of a hit (76, 98, 83, 78). We stand first in roster strength (100).</font></font>

It's kind of a shame to see Hansen go. He was a great backup and made it easier when some of our starters went down, but the young new guard you got out of the deal looks good.

Carr is one of our starting CB's, but he hasn't produced a great number of INT's over the past few years.

Sheen was drafted in 2002 by TheRoyalOne, who picked his 2001 draftee DT B.J. Mudgett as his keeper. None of my draftees were as good as I wanted, and Sheen was clearly the man (no not that "The Man") durring my 2 seasons, so I had to show him some loyalty. http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~fof/ubb/smile.gif

Great off-season. You maximized the deep and wide draft, improving out telent base across the board and getting us younger. We have needed a better #2 QB for years now, as every time Sieh comes in I cringe. I know he cost me about 3-4 games single-handedly. Yeah, I know: growing pains - but he hasn't grown into anything worth playing...Perhaps there will be a vet QB available on a one or two year deal until the new rook matures.

Minnesota (1-0) at Cleveland (1-0) (-9).

A costy win. Our starting TE Stark is out for the year. Starting CB Carr, S Swift out 2-3 months. Sheen (29-87-0) emerges slightly from his funk. Davies (18-31-206-2-0) is solid. The defense is the star here, though (8 sacks, 2 int, 1 td). Matt Champion leads the way with 3.5 sacks.

Week 3
Baltimore (0-2) at Cleveland (2-0) (-9).

Sheen (23-75-0) still can't get out of first gear. Fortunately Davies (15-24-234-3-0) can, and he leads the league with a 129.2 QB rating. The wideouts continue to be a balanced, talented group. The defense causes 3 turnovers and holds division-foe Baltimore to 207 total yards.

Week 4
Cleveland (3-0) (-2) at Tennessee (1-2).

A big road division win for us. Davies has another big game (23-33-322-3-0), as does emerging superstar, WR Harvey Wallace (6-129-2). Sheen stinks it up (24-45), but the D is sublime (251 yds allowed, 4 sacks, 1 int.). Need to investigate what is going on with our running game.

Week 5
Cleveland (4-0) (-2) at Chicago (1-2).

Turnovers are the key in this game, with to fumbles by us making the difference. Davies (14-29-234-0-0) acts like a mere mortal. Unfortunately, Davies gets knocked out of this first game he begins to do well (10-70) in. All in all, a tough out-of-conference road loss.

Week 6
Jacksonville (4-1) at Cleveland (4-1) (-4).

The first marquee matchup of the year. The offense stays in a funk, but the defense bails us out with just 253 yds allowed plus 3 sacks. For the record, RB Sheen (21-59) has still not scored a rushing touchdown. Up to this point we havent messed much with the formations since the beginning of the season, so we look to mix it up next week. Davies (14-26-208-1-2) has his first subpar passing game, but does run one in. Rookie WR Bushon has another strong game (3-97) and it seems like our wideouts are starting to resemble the 2000 St. Louis Rams receiving corps.

Week 7
Green Bay(2-3) at Cleveland (5-1) (-2).

Another tough non-conference loss. Davies has his second sub-par game (11-31-179-1-2), although WR Wallace (5-101-1) continues his all-pro campaign. RB Sheen finally returns to form (21-114-1) with his first td and 100-yd game of the season. The rushing defense was its usual stingy (30-72-0) self, but our inexperienced secondary gets torched for 300 yards. Another tough non-conference road game looms...

Week 8
Cleveland (5-2) at Detroit (2-4) (-1).

Incredibly, Detroit was favored in this game, but the Browns offense rolled, racking up 416 total yards. QB Davies leads the way (18-26-275-2-0), with WR Wallace (6-128-1) close behind. RB Sheen (6-44) gets knocked out early, but backup RB OJ DeStefano steps in admirably (15-59-2). The defense is porous again, allowing 363 yards of total offense. Changes are looming in the second half.

Our run defense continues to dominate, and hopefully our pass defense will gel in the second half as key starters Carr and Slay continue to heal. A moderate schedule (opponents a combined 28-32) makes me nervous.

The bad news is that starting MLB Rufus Duke is out until the playoffs.

Week 10

We use this week to get healthy and we now only have two seriously injured players.

Week 11

A heartbreaker, but we remain in first in our division. A Rob johnson TD pass with one minute remaining is the decider. The loss of DE Champion several weeks ago has hampered our pass rush. Hopefully the rest will do him good.

Week 17
Cleveland (11-4) (-2) at Baltimore(5-10).

10-0 in the division earns us home field throughout the playoffs! We go against our better judgement and don't bench our starters. Our defense gets a tuneup, too - allowing just 227 total yards, while getting a sack, 3 ints, 2 fumble recoveries and a touchdown. Our return team gets into the act as Doug Barnette returns a punt 37 yds for a td.

Bucs win 10-7, avoiding a monumental upset.

Cleveland (13-4) at Seattle (13-4) -8 .

Seattle strikes first, but Donnie Sheen busts through with a 55 yard touchdown. Despite its riddled o-line, Seattle moves the ball up and down the field with ease. Thanks to our bend but dont break defense we are able to hold them, and a couple of Kitna Ints help the cause. The game is sealed when Dusty Parrish takes a late 3rd quarter punt for 62 yards and a score. This game belongs to our two cornerstones, QB Davies (20-26-244-0-0) and RB Sheen (26-144-2). A bit of bad news: Keeper DT Mudgett is out til next year, as is starting TE Stark. Stark is placed on IR and a veteran is picked from waivers for the Bowl. We resign everyone but FB Bednarik (won't reneg), his backup Astley (unhappy), and backup G Neil (unhappy). We renegotiate Blaine Davies to a 5 yr, 49 million dollar deal.

Cleveland (14-4) vs. Tampa Bay (16-2) -9 .
We change our game plan to reduce the number of times we run the ball against the NFC's number-one ranked rushing defense. Sheen has a rough early going (11-17), but a couple of Davies quick strikes set up a Rollins FG and we take the lead 3-0 going into the 2nd Quarter. Boehner, the Bucs QB, is picking apart our secondary and gets Tampa a 7-3 lead. Sheen - quickly becoming a big game stud - rushes twice for 32 yards and a score, giving the Browns a 10-7 lead. Boehner marches his guys right back up field for a 14-10 lead. Then it happens. Davies has a pass intercepted and returned 61 yards for a touchdown. Tampa leads 21-10 with 4 minutes left in the half. The Browns' fans are disconsolate. With 25 seconds left in the half, Boehner gets injured, but with the Tampa D playing like monsters it probably doesnt matter.

We trade punts in the third quarter, neither team able to get an offensive foothold. The fourth quarter rolls around and things look bleak. Donnie Sheen takes the first play of the quarter and scampers 20 yards. Force calls a gutsy five straight running plays, and after a 16 yard pass to rookie phenom Bushon, Sheen takes it in from four for the score! The 2-point conversion fails, and we need a miracle as the game stands 21-16. Force continues his genius playcalling the next series, with a mix of run/pass that results in another Rollins FG. 21-19.

Davies gets the ball with three minutes remaining. Hope! Cleveland promptly turns the ball over on downs as Warren Sapp delivers a crushing sack of Davies. The two minute warning sounds and it looks to be over. Tampa attempts a 52 yard FG that comes up short and Cleveland will get one more chance, with 1:28 remaining. Davies looks for redemption. 28 yards to Wallace, out of bounds. Sheen runs for 3 and is injured! DeStefano trots onto the field, takes the handoff and rumbles for 12 yards. Timeout. DeStefano gets the ball again and rumbles for 13 more. With no timeouts left, Force calls in the field goal unit. 27 seconds on the clock. The kick is up...and good! Cleveland takes a 22-21 lead. Tampa gets the ball back with 14 seconds left on the clock. One incompletion and one scramble later and the game is OVER! <a href="http://www.reinsurance.org/fof/superbowl_2007.pdf">Cleveland wins its second Superbowl in three years!</a>. Davies is a lock for HOF barring a major injury. What is his career QB rating ? I would guess around 91-92.

Davies will go to the Hall. There is no doubt in my mind that he will get voted in. I think his career rating is closer to the 89-90 range.

I think Sheen is a fairly solid pick for the Hall as well. So far he's had 3 All-League nods and 2 Super Bowl MVP selections. If he gets in 2-3 more seasons of near peak performance he should be a lock.

We remove the Franchise designation from DT Christian Peter and place it on FB Edwin Bednarik. Bednarik wouldn't renegotiate, but his skill level coupled with his backup's refusal to re-sign left us with no choice.

Both our Scout, Erik Johan, and Coach, Martin Force stay. They are both clearly the creme-de-la-creme at their positions. I recommend giving Johan a raise in the near future.

Fan Loyalty and Support for Stadium are both maxed-out at 100 (again). Since we are coming off a Superbowl year, (but still saw a sharp decrease in revenue), we raise prices between 4%-6% across the board. Still, none of our prices are the highest in the league.

<font face="Arial"><font size=2>We go into free agency with precious little cap room and it looks like we are going to lose backups Earnest Astley (FB) and Dan Neil (G). We need a DE, but the prices are still insanely high, and we are close to maxed, so we wait till the latter stages, hoping a solid backup drops down. None does. We lose the aforementioned players, but move confidently into the draft.

<font face="Arial"><font size=2>We begin the draft with a 1st round pick (32), and two 2nd round picks (7 and 32). Our mission is two-fold - get a stud DE by any means necessary and add to our depth on the aging o-line. We have little cap space and lots of aspirations, so we put on our Trader Jack hat.

<u>Trades</u>
Trade #1: Backup QB Sieh, 5th WR Porter, 2008 2nd round pick (32), 2009 5th and 7th round picks to Baltimore for 2008 1st (7) and 3rd (7) rounders and a 2009 1st round pick.

Unhappy with the draft depth, we trade down.

Trade #2: 2008 1st (7) and 3rd (7) rounders to Philly for 2008 1st (10) and 2nd (10) rounders.

Unable to choose between a stud G and a maxed-out LB, we look to pick up another 1st rounder.

Trade #3: Backup LB Conrad Bernstein to Minnesota for 2008 1st rounder (12).

Our 4th trade has several motivations. Backup RB DeStefano is demanding a trade and is int he last year of his contract. This draft is also stacked with Cornerbacks (as are we). So we can probably move a good veteran backup and not lose much in that category.

Trade #4: Backup CB Jerald Mummert and backup RB OJ DeStefano to San Diego for 2008 2nd rounder (17) and 2009 1st rounder.

We tried for a solid hour to get a stud DE from another team, but the asking price was three 1st rounders - to much in my estimation. Hopefully, the draft cupboard is full for Darkiller for the next two years: 4 1st rounders, 2 2nd, 2 3rd, 2 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th.

We sign every draftee and renegotiate almost every contract on the roster - re-upping almost every starter for 3 more years. We end up with 6 million dollars in cap flexibility.

After training camp, we receive an interesting offer for Sheen. The first pick in the 2008 draft - who happened to be a DE. We pass.</font></font>

We finish the exhibition season a respectable 3-1. Chapman and Battle perform well. The magnificent seven are activated and we get ready to start the season. Our passing cohesion drops like a stone though - probably because Davies was moved to third string and Sieh was traded. Hopefully this will normalize after a few games. Hopefully.</font></font>

<font face="arial"><font size="2">We were decimated by injuries this year and that is what derailed us, plain and simple. Davies missed three games out right and was questionable in at least 4 more. We lost a number of starters for the season or extended time due to injury. The good news is that everyone is signed and Daveis and Sheen are chugging to the Hall. Good luck Darkiller.</font></font>

Shame about the injuries. I've been surprised by the number I've seen to some key players (Davies went down in my last season as well). Espeiclay since our coach is rated at Very Good or higher on Avoid Injury.

The keeper list is now set until we get our first retiree. It'll be fun to see what kind of club records these guys can establish. (and if any future keeper can break them)
