Ok, I know your wife trains set pieces so Beckys Babes isn't as strong in, say, midfield or keeper as someone who trains those.
But, uh, you want to explain how the goddess of set pieces lost in penalty kicks today?? :p

I haven't been able to see the match... I heard I lost.
Anyone mind copy/pasting her match. I find that very interesting. Something I would like to bitch to the HT people about, since they hate me and all.

Match Report
Pack - Beckys Babes 6 - 4
Date: 12/4/2003 at 01:00
MatchID: 13272404
Arena: Pack Arena
Crowd: 23485
23485 spectators had come to Pack Arena this cloudy day. Pack had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. The following players had been chosen: Jiménez - Weathers, Coopman, Ramey - Church, Kargopolov, Östad, Fano, Pihlstedt - Geelen, Ledbetter.
Beckys had chosen a strategic 3-5-2 formation. Lineup: Burden - Hoffmann, Clemens, Browning - de Nooijer, Óskarsson, Rolandsson, Jackson, Oelbermann - Ozerov, Connolly.
Beckys strategy involved pressing and cutting off attack angles of their opponents from all over the field. Beckys took the lead in the games 6:th minute with 0 - 1 after some elegant plays down the middle. Nison Ozerov was the scorer. After several obvious shirt pulling incidents, Pack´s Antonio Fano got himself booked. After 30 minutes of play Theodore Ledbetter equalised for Pack after an elegant attack from the right. Pack were very close to putting themselves one up in the 31st minute as Tam Church got through, but failing in concentration, he shot the ball wide. As Joel Browning had, completely unprovoked, swept the legs out from under an opponent in front of a linesman, the referee gave the Beckys player a red card without batting an eye. The teams went for a half-time break at 1 - 1. Pack held the ball, with a clear 55 percent possession rate.
In the 53rd minute the home side were awarded a penalty. The visitors protested wildly but the referee was adamant. Antonio Fano easily put the 2 - 1 goal away for Pack. A great save by goaltender Saul Burden in the 75:th minute kept the visitors in the game as Theodore Ledbetter struck from the left with a real cannonball. 80 minutes into the game Beckys´s Richard Rolandsson found a gap in the home sides central defense scoring with a long shot, making it 2 - 2. The referee showed Packs Theodore Ledbetter the yellow card after a particularly nasty challenge. Due to a severely mistimed tackle,Moritz Oelbermann spent some time on the grass writhing in agony before he could get up and continue the game. Beckys's wretched ability to press their opponents all over the field paid off frequently. Pavel Kargopolov of Pack received a yellow card in the 89:th minute for unsportsmanlike behaviour. Pack, bringing the final ball possession rate to 53 percent, dominated the battle.
Not having decided a winner at full-time, the match went into extra time. Pack had a good opportunity to take the lead as Antonio Fano came up the left side, but he struck the ball weakly and it went straight into the arms of Saul Burden. The result was still a draw, so the game had to be settled with penalties. Pack´s Antonio Fano hesitated a long time before shooting a penalty going just wide of the left post. Still 2 - 2. Beckys´s Tómas Óskarsson didn´t hesitate but Javier Jiménez managed the save, resulting in an unchanged 2 - 2 score. Pack´s Harald Östad made no mistake. Saul Burden didn´t have a chance. 3 - 2. Beckys´s Richard Rolandsson had nerves of steel at the penalty, changing the score to 3 - 3. Pack´s Frits Coopman cooly put the ball past Saul Burden. 4 - 3. Beckys´s Moritz Oelbermann was seemingly taken by the gravity of the moment, producing a badly laid penalty, blocked by Javier Jiménez. Score still 4 - 3. Pack´s Leo Ramey had nerves of steel at the penalty, changing the score to 5 - 3. Beckys´s Jed Jackson hesitated a long time before shooting a penalty going just wide of the left post. Still 5 - 3. Pack´s Javier Jiménez seemed nervous, putting the ball to the centre of the goal. Saul Burden however, made an early dive to the right, the ball passing him. 6 - 3. Beckys´s Keimpe de Nooijer made no mistake. Javier Jiménez didn´t have a chance. 6 - 4. The most dominating Pack player was without a doubt Harald Östad. Pavel Kargopolov on the other hand, had a terrible day. Beckys´s best player was Tómas Óskarsson. Chester Connolly was a disappointment, however. The match ends 6 - 4.

The Keeper
Here's his keeper. He's up for sale right now and doesn't look too special. He got 2.5 stars so it's not like they were up against Jude or something.
Javier Jiménez (16987215)
21 years, inadequate form, healthy
A sympathetic guy who is balanced and dishonest.
Has disastrous experience and weak leadership abilities.

Did she have a penalty kicking lineup messed up and her weaker guys were the ones who kicked?

Still, even her "weak" PK line-up would be insane. Think about how quickly SP shoots up. I'd doubt there was a player on the field for her team that was less than Outstanding SP, and they'd be the new guys.

Looks like at least one, maybe two of them were experience misses. But the one save that was made...yow. :)

see USA conference, title: "ummm... a real gripe."
craziness in a nutshell.

Their goalkeeper is a just-popped solid. So he wouldn't have a great chance at stopping the PK, but it wouldn't be no chance either. Without knowing the exact formula for the chance of finishing a PK (after passing the experience test), I can't analyze it in more detail.
(I'm thinking the probability I posited on the conferences probably is not accurate.)

I'm thinking like a 0.01% chance to save, but that's only 1 in 1000.
