2-08-MIN23 (08:20) MIN 22 Jones ran around the left tackle for 4 yards.
Tackled by NED 96 Rasmussen.
MIN 7 Helling was injured on the play.
This appears to be a serious injury
Hurt for 18 weeks with a Torn Triceps Muscle
Now I don't really see how a QB can get a serious injury over a handoff. This just sucks.
Edited: Had a stupid question.

What do u want us to say? Who knows how something like that happens? If an NFL player is stupid enough to get hurt walking down stairs, anything is possible

Yet another chance for Jim's "Between the Lines".

Seriously though, a lot more could have happened during this play. Maybe the QB tripped over a pulling lineman. Or maybe it was just a really slow developing play and he barely made the handoff in time. Thus a lineman greeted him a half-second after the pitch and tossed him into the turf. Really, a number of things could've happened between the lines.

The play may have started right, but the RB reversed direction and the QB was out in front throwing a block (ala Brett Favre)?

Or maybe the game randomly assigned an injury to the QB based on the injury settings you had and his injury rating.

McKerney, that's the answer he was wanting, but you shouldnt have given it to him
Seriously, who knows why it happened. Maybe that would be a good feature for the next edition, injury clarification or even offseason injuries, but we don't want an Ismael Valdes type QB who cant throw because a nail hurts

Nah, I knew there could be a number of reasons.
I'm just venting in the message boards.. So thank you for letting me vent. He was my up and coming star. Oh well, shit happens.

Could everyone give me a play-by-play of what they think it is. I'm trying to think of a good play-by-play reasoning of the injury. So use your imagination and I'll pick the winner. Thanks guys. :D

Play by Play: Helling brings the team up to the line, checking the defense. Single back formation, Johnson and Wayne to the strong side, with Anderson lining up weak. Play clock at eleven, Helling is checking off.
Color: He is still looking slow after Rasmussen's sack two plays ago, he's got to be hurting.
Play by Play: Here comes Wayne in motion. The snap, handoff to Jones on the left side...
Color: Oh, no.
Play by Play: Jones into the line for a few yards, but Helling is down, and I don't think he's getting up.
Color: It was Wayne on the fake reverse.
Play by Play: I think you're right. [shows replay] There, right there - Wayne coming across in motion cuts too close to Helling on the fake, and catches his arm coming across - that's the same arm he was holding after that sack.
Color: Helling is in obvious pain, coming off the field with the trainers.

Maybe someone in a monkey suit jumped out of the stands and tackled him.... (Some may get the reference)
Of course, if the play by play said that the quarterback gave himself a concussion while celebrating a touchdown, who would believe that. ;)

Didn't Dan Moreno or Vinney Testaverde tear an achilles tendon several years ago on a play that they were not even touched?

Hell, Pennington almost got knocked out by an O-lineman in the huddle last Monday.

I love it in tcy when a quarterback takes a knee and the opposing defensive nose tackle blows out his mcl.

Yep, nobody was near Testaverde when he blew his achilles.
I remember a college QB suffering a major arm injury on a handoff where the back ended up running for 50 yards or more.
The DT broke through the line clean, and hit the QB as just as he was handing off. The QB's arm was extended for the just given handoff and he came down on it awkwardly. I think it was a broken arm, but it could have been just about anything.

What's better is when players get get serious injuries on false starts.... It has happened to me more than once.

Maybe he is just protecting us from being sued by the NFLPA for copyright infringement? Not as creative as Jay Gatsby, but what are you going to do?
