Since we were talking about another old sci-fi show (Battlestar Gallactica) this morning, it made me think of this the old anime cartoon Star Blazers. Has anyone gotten the DVD set for the first season of this show? It is perhaps my most fondly remembered show from my childhood, but I'm wondering if it is worth it to buy it. I'm worried that it will suffer from the Speed Racer effect where a show you loved as a kid horrifies you when you see it again as an adult.

I have one DVD, which has 6 episodes of Star Blazers on it. While it isn't as great as I remembered it being, it's still fun to watch. Although I have to admit I enjoyed the Comet Empire story a little more than the Iscandar story.

The same thing happened to me when I bought the Robotech:Macross DVD set. The animation was pretty crappy compared to what is out there today, and the story was a little hokey, but it was still fun to watch, and the large battles at the end are still worth every penny I paid for the DVD.

Yeah, I liked the Comet Empire season with Deslok (however it's spelled). He was so evil! They have the complete first season on DVD (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005QCWK/qid=1070921670/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/002-4713325-6489615?v=glance&s=dvd) for around $130. I wish they had it to rent at Blockbuster...
