I know this has been passed on before but I'm wondering if there is a chance we all could do some Hole 'em for real (but small amounts) money tournments?

THink we could get it together??

Only place I can do $$ games is Absolute Poker. Im game anytime. I think we could even arrange a private tournament for FOFCers there. If youd like I can contact support about this.

I just emailed Absolute Poker about the possibility of creating private tournaments. Ill let you know the response (they are usually very fast with their responses).

What's the smallest amount you can deposit into Absolute?

What do you think wre the chances of us doing an "honor" system (thru pay pal or whatever) in playing in "play" tournys and just giving the winner the $$$

That way we bypass their rakes...

Just a thought.

I'd love to play but I'm not really in a situation where I can deposit money in. I do have $8 still at Absolute Poker so I'll try to build up that bankroll if y'all want to play real. If it's for play money (a few months ago quite a few of us got together a couple nights at Absolute for play money and the games were still quite well-played with only FOFC'ers.) They have gotten a little more crowded than I recall, but if we do it off-peak we should easily get a table and even at peak hours we could probably get a few FOFC'ers at the same table.

That'd be fine with me, although I don't think we're going to have much luck getting a private table set up if we go that route. We'd just have to make sure we're all on the money with getting into the same tournament.

I'm happy either with either way, though.

BishopMVP (I can see we're all creative here)

I played 2 real money tournaments tonight, both $5+.50 buy-ins. Finished 3rd in the 1st, "winning" $9 (really $3.50.) Finished 4th in the second one, kind of disappointing because me and two others were close in chips and all worried about blinding out, and my final 5 pockets when I needed to make a move were 24/38/35/26/26. I think the 24 was the only suited one too.

If it's real money, I'll be happy to participate.

Me too, especially if they get private tables working.

Hear that?

That's the sound of hoardes of FOF poker enthusiasts pushing back from the table and running for their lives...

I have been very pleased with the stuff from 5 Star Deals (http://www.5stardeal.com/deals/10browse.asp?Category=Casino+Supplies). They are fairly cheap, and their stuff is pretty solid quality.

They do a lot of selling on ebay - so if you're looking to buyy fairly cheaply, go there, search for "poker chips" and you will doubtless find many of their listings - for new merchandise. Thumbs up from me.

My username is Gorgonian on Absolute Poker. I played two $2 single table tournaments last night and finished first in both. I believe I have finished first in 8 of my last 9 $2 tournaments. the 9th I finished second in and should have won but played poorly when down to heads-up. I ocassionally play the $5 ones but usually stick to the $2 ones because they are pretty easy to win for me. I play almost every evening after I get home from work, from about 4 to 6 central time. Sometimes later, too. ALWAYS at the single table tournaments (or, rarely, the multis).

I emailed UB about private tables so we'll see what they say. They just upgraded their software and it's even better than before. I don't know how some of you play on the other sites, they are sooo slow! When I lag with my cable modem on them it drives me nuts but UB has no lag :)

Thanks quik. I recieved a few PMs from others and they are all nice. I have always had the cheapo plastic chips, but I need the feel of the casino clay. I'm thinking about getting a hold 'em game going at the next family picnic.

$5 bucks gets you $1000 in chips and it is winner take all.

With $1000 a piece, what would a good bet? 5/10, 10/20? Thoughts?

Chubby

Bone - start out at 5/10 and go up every 5 mins. That's a standard UB sit-and-go.

Bonegavel
12-10-2003, 11:31 AM
nice, thanks Chubby. Go up by $5?

Chubby
12-10-2003, 11:39 AM
5/10, 10/20, 15/30, 20/40, 30/60, 40/80, 50/100, etc... i mean you can do whatever ya want that's what UB does. Eventually the difference gets greater and greater i think then it goes 75/150, 100/200 etc...

MJ4H
12-10-2003, 11:39 AM
wow every 5 minutes? thats horrendous. needs to be at least 15. 10 is already too fast.

Chubby
12-10-2003, 11:41 AM
i think it's every 5 mins, maybe it's 10...

edit: it's 7 mins on UB

Bonegavel

Nice. I will probably stick with 5/10, but I will keep that in mind.

Any luck on finding a site that allows private tournaments so we can get an FOFC hold 'em tourney going with real moe-nay?

Chubby

still waiting to hear from UB on it.

Hello,

Thank you for your comment. We really appreciate your opinion about us.

We already have plans to do private tables but our programmers are still
working on it. If you would like we will let you know as soon as we have
them available.

I've checked out several online suppliers for pokerchips, and the only one I've found so far that has the correct money amounts (that my group uses) printed on them are below.

You aren't going to beat the quality of the ones I suggested...

They don't have the $$ printed on them, but that's not a big deal, I've found. Sometimes you might want to change the values anyways, so it'll be nice to not have to havve the money on 'em.

I wouldn't worry about that too much - for me, at lesat, it wouldn't be a big deal.
