Has anyone with DSL through bellsouth had problems hooking up their PS2 online?

You can't use Bellsouth's default USB modems...you'll need to get them to send you their Ethernet modem. They wanted to charge me $150 for it, but when I told them that I'll just switch to Comcast and their cable modems, they gave it to me for free.
After that, I hooked up the cable modem to a router with one line going to the PC and one line going to the PS2. It's worked great since.

Already got one. Just talked to their tech and they say that it should work. It still doesn't. :(

Did you connect it to a router, then from the router to the PS2? The router will have to pull your IP address, as I don't think the PS2 will do that. If you need a router, try out the linksys 4 port router. Its an excellent little router with tons of tools and options.

GrantDawg,
What is the setup you are using? Are you just running the ethernet cable from the DSL modem to the PS2 or are you going to the router and then from the router to the PS2? If you are going straight from the modem did you setup the PPPoE information in the PS2? And if you are going from the router you should make sure the DHCP is setup in the router and that you have DHCP setup on the PS2. Also it's possible the router may be blocking the ports the PS2 uses. I forget which ports you need to open, but I will look into it.
That probably isn;t the case as most DSL routers just do normal NAT translation, and since your PS2 is initiating the connection ti should come back through with no problem.

What is the name of your modem? If you have a westell you should be able to do it. Put the ethernet(yellow) in the PS2 and take out the plug for the modem and plug it back in.
