Today's AJC column of news/notes about the Thrashers contained one of the poorest choices of words I've seen in a while.

Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled at the success of the team. I'm satisfied to give GM Don Waddell credit for hiring the right coach. And I don't believe for a minute he considered the context of his choice of words.

But ... while discussing Dany Heatley's rehab he said "Everything's going well," he said. "He's never hit any bumps in the road."

Of all the analogies in the world, of all the handy cliches, why did he have to use one that invoke that image?

I don't think it was deliberate... but poor choice of words none the less.
