I wanted to keep this separate from the other city affiliations thread, to leave this as a place for discussion about city population issues. Maybe I got a little ahead of myself by introducting the other thread, but that's nothing that can't be edited and certainly isn't final.

The issues: do we want to establish some sort of a population "floor" for our starting cities? Do we want to impose an initial ceiling? And in the case of a place like NY, which is much more populous than NJ, do we want to find some sort of a population middle ground? Should anyone be able to claim cities like LA?

I think the best way to do this is to let people change to whatever characteristics (except population) they want (via the city editor) but to set every city's population to the same value. I think 1.5 million is a good number.

Agreed. I think we should all start with an identical population just to help even out finances.

Hopefully it won't backfire in some weird way.

So maybe 3 million as the base population?

I personally think that would be fair, I'd like to hear some other opinions.

We could set the other city properties (entertainment competition, trend setting, growth rate, etc.) identical initially, and where they go from there, players just have to deal with, since that is part of the simulation.

I agree with setting the population of every city as 3,000,000.

I also agree with setting all of the other factors that Samdari listed the same, too.

Affirmative.

I vote against, because people have had a choice of city, so if they want to play in a bigger city, they should move their team.

I vote for the sensible proposal above, offered by Samdari.

Do we set all cities equal or just cities with teams? If we do the latter, do we allow teams to move cities right away?

I wouldn't mind hearing Jim's theories on this. Any thoughts on what might backfire, besides the general disclaimers about making game modifications?
