I've noticed a few posts in here reference the lack of a demo for TPF or a weak demo for FOF, and I was wondering why sports sim companies are essentially ignoring a demo.
AFAIK, only CM releases a full demo when their game is released.
Here is what I have garnered from the demo situation:
ITP: No demo yet (about 3-4 weeks is the last I heard)
TPF: The same as above
OOTP: Usually has a demo 3-4 weeks after release.
FOF: a 2 week demo that doesn't do anything.
TDCB: Took a long while for a demo, about 3-4 weeks.
I can understand the logic that there are bugs in the game that would affect the demo and full version, and that the developers should spend time on that instead of creating a demo. However, a lot of games I play that aren't sports sims routinely have demo's available at launch or even before then.
Why can't sports sim companies make demos on time? Thats one reason why I hold off before buying a lot of games, because I have no way of knowing anything tangible about it unless I buy it... and by the time I can test it out, I'm not really in the mood to play the game (I'm a bit of a seasonal player, so I'm going to be preparing for basketball or baseball games by the end of January, not football). I trust people's opinions on the board, but I also know there are a lot of games I like that they don't or vice versa (I know SD and I look for the same things in games, but he seems to enjoy OOTP while I don't).
I don't know what to suggest, but it feels like not having a demo (or a weak one) is a tool being used to drive up sales in order to "dupe" (in the nicest sense of the word) a buyer into buying the game blind. Its like going to see a movie without seeing any trailers for it and only reading a 10 word blurb about the plot (trust me, if I had seen trailers for Chocolat and been informed more about it besides only hearing it had Johnny depp, I nevere would have agreed to see it.)
