Fight after Hawaii-Houston game

That fight made the Florida-FSU fight look lik girl scouts. I do not think I have ever seen a fight after the sporting event like that. There was four or five different groups fighting.

I am speculating here, but I think a fan came out on the field and was the first to start the fighting.

The police had to break it up and it is a mircale it dispersed so quickly.

June Jones sorta blamed the officials for it, saying that they let the players get away with a lot of stuff during the game, and it boiled over after the game. I don't buy that, but he knows more about what happened on the field than I do.

Jeez, you would think that getting to go to college in Hawaii would make the players be a little more laid back and not as quick tempered. Just remind the Houston players where they are heading back to and they pretty much get the upper hand in the situation without a single punch thrown. ;)

It's those mad looking Hawaiin drummers. Those guys throw themselves into the drums, literally. You can only imagine the hate and discontent for the other team.

That fight was nothing compared to your typical Louisiana high school football game (or basketball game) fight.

I remember once when I was 10, we were playing Hebron in little league. A kid tried to steal, and I tagged him out at second base. He threw his helmet at me, and got ejected. He cried, I laughed. That's my fighting story. :)

Personally, I love to see it, and I'll tell you why.

See there seems to be this prevailing wisdom of sorts, that true sport is all about the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat, grace, strength and dedication all meeting to create beautiful art.

Nonsense.

Sport is about striking out a guy, running into the stands and beating up his kids, it's about throwing in an open hand chop to the throat when no one's looking. It's about beating up a bad ref after the 8-year old's soccer game. Aggression, testosterone, the occassional drug conviction...that's sports, my friend. Heck, look at those European soccer fans, they've got it right. Eh...so what if a few people have to get trampled during a meaningless match? It's sports.

My favorite baseball player? Don Wilson, no question. After being no-hit by the Reds just a day before, Wilson blows away the trash-talking Reds on May 1, 1969, throwing a no-hitter of his own and immediately after the final out (without celebrating a bit) runs into the Reds dugout to get him some. Now THAT'S a true athlete. Win the game, THEN win the fight. And if you don't win the game, win the fight anyway.

That reminds me of a story, kind of funny actually. After my high school was bounced in the first round of state's playoffs, we were treated to some rather nasty fans, who rubbed the blowout loss in our faces, and spent most of the game shooting the bird at parents and throwing various objects at our players. So after the game, as both groups of fans are leaving through a singe set of doors, a fan of our opponents simply looks over and says, "You want some?" To which a loyal Heritage Patriot replied, "Yeah...I want some."

Now I wasn't there, but I'm told that immediately after that, all hell broke loose and a Pier 6 Brawl erupted in the Commons area of the high school involving, parents, students, security, women and small children. Now tell me that isn't good sport!

I've got more to say on this, but I have to finish wrapping this baseball bat in barbed wire in preparation for this weekends Cardinals-Vikings game. Heh, not a fan of either team but it's a good idea to be prepared!
