OT: PS2 College Hoops - What's best?

i like NCAA March madness 2004...i got the espn game last year, and it felt like it was impossible to make anyting other than a dunk or lay-up...NCAA in my mind hits the spot gameplay wise, and has a dynasty mode lifted almost right from the college football game...

I think legacy mode is better in ESPN, and as far as the gameplay (i've played espn on xbox and mm on ps2) I would say madness by a little bit. It seems smoother and easier to control. I don't know about more realistic, but it has a little higher of a fun factor. I would still get ESPN though, just because the legacy options are more immersing and the gameplay isn't that far off (it still is somewhat hard to find those open jumpers too, but not impossible to make). I don't think you can go wrong with either though.

I just got done playing a game of ESPN, it was so frustrating I quit in the middle of the second half.

Balldog hit it on the nose, from what I've been reading about both of them.

My friend asks which one to get for himself, I say MM2004, if someone like myself was buying one, I would go with ESPN.

I'm a dynasty type, he just wants to shoot the ball. :)

I actually don't mind the game play in ESPN at all. It's a great game.

The fact that my 7'0" center instead of dunking or doing a layup would do a little jumpstep back a few feet then a fadeway jumper which he misses 80% of the time is what is killing me.

The offensive plays just flat out suck.

The CPU has a 3 on 1 fast break, instead of taking advantage of it he either pulls it back and waits for everyone or calls a timeout.

March Madness is not perfect either but with slider adjustments it is a lot better.

I rented Madness, and got ESPN for XMAS. For the gameplay, Madness, for everything else ESPN. In Madness, it felt like to move down the screen in any mode took an hour waiting for it to go. In ESPN, I wish my guys would dunk or lay it up half the time. If ESPN had a seperate button for dunking/lay up like Madness does, it'd be the best for me by far. But since it doesn't.....

If I had to choose I'd say ESPN.

These are pretty much my two bigges beefs in the game, primarily the first one. As my team, IUPUI, pretty much sucks shooting from the outside, we need to get the ball inside. A lot of times this is accomplished, but an easy two turns into a frustrating miss as the player goes into one of those retarted 'silly shot' animations. Were it not for that, I would enjoy the game a hell of a lot more.

I think this is about right on. I rented them both and would definitely choose ESPN. Madness's gameplay is better, and the problems in ESPN's that people have noted are true, but Madness is SO SLOW to the point that it will drive you crazy. The legacy mode in ESPN is also about fifty times better and makes the replay factor an easy determining factor for me.
