View Full Version : Another Spyware question

This one is hard to shake. Maybe someone can help?

I go to google.com and it sends me to some error page saying its not found, then forwards me to the follwing address.

http://justtemplates.com/google.html

This has to be illegal. Can nothing be done about it?

Try downloading Ad-Aware and running it. It worked miracles for me.

I have Ad-Aware...have run it, didnt get rid of it.

Spybot is good as well

also try regsupreme at macecraft.com (its free for first 30 days)

it cleans out bad and unneeded junk in your registry.. it eliminated that version thingy that was haunting me :)

I run ad-aware, spybot, and SpywareBlaster, which doesn't search for spyware, it blocks it from getting onto your computer.

There is also SpywareGuard, which gives you a pop-up window anytime something tries to make changes to your browser.

Yes, all the ones I mentioned should be free, it cuts down on a lot of the junk that tries to get on your computer, but Ad-aware and Spybot will still catch some things.

Sounds like you've got a redirect that's hidden itself in your registry, so whenever you go to google it'll try and send you to the other naughty site.

Try using HighjackThis from here (http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/)

It's not very intuitive. You'll need to run a scan, then check down the list for any mention of google or the website you're being redirected to and delete the entry. HighjackThis doesn't do anything automatically, you have to choose what to delete. Make sure you've not got IE running when you do the scan and deletes.

While we're discussing this, I have a question.

My last ISP was Cox for cable, they put some stuff on IE, including an annoying Cox logo in the upper right hand corner. How can I get this stuff off of IE?

What is the adaware and spybot websites? I would google it, but I cant :)

It is not just google, it is all major search engines.

or use mozilla firebird in the first place and you won't get spyware. since installing it on my pc, all adaware ever discovers is the occasional cookie i forgot to block.

http://www.techtv.com/screensavers/answerstips/story/0,24330,2103990,00.html Here is a link with instructions on how to change it to whatever you want. At the bottom of the page there is a link that takes you to a page to restore the default settings.

Or you could use mozilla firebird. ;)

I usually use Mozilla, but there are a few things I still use IE to do. The Cox logo is just annoying to look at.

Found this wonderful little program on TechTV's site. Its free for 30 days and includes, System Cleaners, Registry Cleaner, Disk Cleaner, Duplicate File Finder, Internet History Cleaner, Startup Manager, and a couple other things.

Bumping this to add Spy Sweeper to the list of Spyware programs people can try. This is definately one worth trying for the 30 day trial period. I run Ad-Aware 6 and SB-S&D, and this one found over 100 registry changes and files on my hard drive, and finally got rid of all traces of Backweb off my CPU. You can also have it run in the background and block any registry changes and Hijack attempts.

They also offer a few other programs to try out for a trial period.
