View Full Version : Arkansas wins
I know none of YOU care, but it's always a rare thing for Arkansas to win a bowl game. Thought they looked pretty good. Bread and butter running game was pretty solid despite losing an all-american tackle and starting fullback. Thought Missouri looked confused all game, like they showed up for the wrong game or something. I think they showed some of why they are a good team in the second half by running right over Arkansas for awhile. Brad Smith looked pretty good. Thought Matt Jones didn't do too badly, either :) Anyone else have any comments on the game?

I heard Spurrier is going to Arkansas.

I didn't get to see the game. We only have one good TV right now, and the wife is watching X-Men 2. I did watch 3 or 4 Arkansas games this season and was quite impressed. They play a smash-mouth Big-10 type of game, much different than your typical SEC team, which also means they are probably the only SEC team that I care for at all. I'll be very interested in seeing how Matt Jones and this team plays next season.
From an Arkansas fan's perspective, what's the outlook for next season, BTW?

Do you think Spurrier would really take a job as an assistant at Arkansas? Might be an interesting offensive coordinator I guess.

Matt, I care greatly. I've been a huge hog fan since birth. I was glad to see them get a bowl win. I was impressed with the way they played in the bowl especially when compared with how they played in the Music City Bowl last year or the Las Vegas Bowl a few years ago.
The outlook for Arkansas next year isn't quite as good. They are losing the entire offensive line, pretty much. Also gone are the starting running back, a couple of receivers, and several defensive players. If they can win 6 or 7 next year, it will be a great season.
I don't think there is any way that Nebraska would offer Nutt the job, and even more unlikely is that Spurrier would come to little old Arkansas. The state's not big enough for his ego.

Mizzou RUNS down the field on their first drive of the game, scores in like 6-7 plays, then Mike Martz calls up Pinkel and says to pass the ball the rest of the game.

I wouldn't sell yourself short on that aspect. Hog fans are loyal, rabid and travel well (from first hand experience ;) ). Plus he would be the only show in town (state even) and he is back in the SEC.
It's really not as unlikely as it would sound, but it is probably a long shot that Spurrier goes anywhere next season. He will probably sit one out or retire.
I went to that game w/my brother and uncle. Pulled for Arkansas as the SEC team though I wore my LSU gear. Enjoyed the game. One thing, though. You Hog fans have got to learn proper SEC cheering procedure. The idea is to make a lot of noise when your team is on Defense, not to save your best noise for when your team is on O. Hog fans would yell like crazy when Arkansas had the ball and quiet down when Missouri drove the ball. We sat in the south endzone, and during the goalline stand most of the folks wearing red (meaning most of the folks in the south end) were just sitting on their hands. I finally had enough, and as Missouri came up to the line on 3rd down we stood up along with a couple of other folks in LSU gear nearby and started exhorting the Hog fans to get up and make noise. And it worked. We got some standing on 3rd down and even more on 4th down. Now to be honest, some were already up, but a lot were just sitting politely until we roused them up. Ya'll need to work on that.
As for Missouri fans, they made even less noise than Pig fans (of course they were outnumbered 2-1), except for some strange yells we never could understand. And their Tiger mascot, well, he looks more like Tigger. One thing, though. We were near the Missouri cheerleaders, and they looked good.
And MizzouRah, we made the same comments during the game. Mizzou went away from what was working. The one running back, I forget his name, is a load. We were impressed. We wondered why Mizzou went away from what worked early in the game.
And indeed the rumor among Hog fans was that Nutt was going to Nebraska and Spurrier to Arkansas. I don't see Spurrier going to Arkansas, though.

Breaking news on Nutt, just now being discussed on an LSU board (along with intense anger at ABC bs announcers giving blow jobs to USC). Link and excerpt:

Nutt should expect NU offer
By Clay Henry
Date: Jan 1, 2004
Will Nebraska hire Arkansas coach Houston Nutt to head its football program? We will know the answer soon.
Nebraska's plane is on the way and Houston Nutt will be in Lincoln some time tonight. He may actually have an offer before he goes to bed.

I guess I could be wrong about Nutt to Nebraska. Although, if he thinks he had it tough with Arkansas fans I can't wait to see what some cornhusker fans do after a couple of 8-4 years and losses in low-prestige bowls. Nutt's a decent coach, but he's nothing special in my opinion. I think Nebraska would be making a huge mistake if they hire him. I still stand by my opinion that there's no way Spurrier would ever come to Arkansas. I just can't see it.

I think if Spurrier came to Arkansas Matt Jones would not be the same player.
Arkansas fans are usually pretty good about getting up on defense. The fans that were in Shreveport were probably not fans that are usually at the games in NW or even central Arkansas. At least that's my guess. Overall SEC fans are the best in the country in my opinion at exactly the type thing you are talking about.

The best at what? The best at having no class whatsoever? I agree.

I'm sure there is some truth to that, but there were also a lot of Arkansas plates in the area.
As for GoldenEagle, sounds like a case of penis envy.

What? Penins envy? Of what?
The fact that fans in the SEC are known for causing trouble. The fact that I have SEC fans at football games make complete fools of themselves? That is alot to be jealous of.
Or am I jealous that my school does not pay to get recruits to come there? Or that my school deos not have a bunch of criminals on their roster? Or that football players at my school magicaly make the grade?
I get alot of humor out of an SEC fan calling me penis envy.
Thank you, come again.
Game over.

Bama fans, Arkansas fans, Ole Miss fans, oh any my fav. - Tenn.
You can get them so rialed up when you mention prison colors or the fact that Memphis beat them in 1996.
It is also very fun to tease Ole Miss fans about their loss to memphis this year.
"We have Eli Mannings, we finsihed 2nd in the conference and should of beat LSU and we are going to the Cotton Bowl"
"You lost to Memphis by 10 points."
"We got Eli Manning"
"So?"
