Deep Discount DVD?

Anyone use them before? I've found a couple of DVDs I'd like, and they're cheaper than the stores by quite a bit. Canadians have to use the 4.99 S&H, but the price is still really good.

If anyone has used them before, do you also have a promotional coupon I can use? :)

DVDTalk.com has a price-comparison feature that works great. DDD is often, but not always, the lowest offering.

I've ordered plenty of times from them. Shipping takes forever, because the standard shipping is pretty much free. 7-10 business days.

The way I see it, you save on the price of the DVD...and for free shipping, the wait for a DVD is more than acceptable on my part. No tax and all that jazz...if I had placed a DVD order on Thursday, I'd have received my order the following week on Friday.

I only had to wait longer than a week when I had ordered something on backorder (I think it was 13th Warrior), and it pretty much took nearly a month to get into my own hands. Then again, it was also during the Firestorm here in southern California, and mail was halted for like a day or two.

Hmm, some of the prices are similar to Amazon.com (such as for South Park, Season 3) and Amazon ships faster, even with its super-saver shipping :D.

I don't know too much about DVD prices since I just got a player for Christmas, but they seem to be about the same price you can get the movies from either Wal-Mart or the local music store...

Are they really that much cheaper? I mean, I checked their price for the LOTR:The Two Towers (extended edition) which is the first DVD I bought. Well I paid 39.99 CDN at the local music store (HMV) and they are selling it for 28.89, I assume it's US$, so given a 1.38 exchange rate, it comes to 39.87. Pretty much the same price to me...

Maybe it was just a big special at the music store, as I said, I just arrived to the DVD world ;)

dola, I kept looking around on the net and they have LOTR:TTT (EE) for 24.98 at Wal-Mart online. While shipping isn't free, the estimate they give is 2.98, for a total of 27.96... hmmm, maybe my sample of test is too small :)

It's difficult to compare online DVD prices vs. store prices. YOU are the one that has to get off your lazy ass, walk into the store and pick up the DVD. If you're ordering online they take care of that for you. I think it makes more sense to compare online vs. online because otherwise it's apples and oranges.

I agree, it is much too difficult to put a price on a lazy ass. For some, it's even priceless.

I'm not a lazy ass.. well, not a big one... ;) If I can save money, I'll get off my lazy ass. The DVDs I was referring to are a Ric Flair compilation, which costs $42CDN at an HMV here... but I would have to get them to order it for me. Wal-Mart, and every other store hasn't even heard of it. :( It costs $20.98 American on this site, which is a good savings for me.

The other is a movie called Following. Just saw it a couple of days ago. Thought it was good, and I'd like a copy of it, but I haven't seen in anwhere besides on ebay.

If you want really good DVD prices, and you are not lazy, there is a better solution. Get a job that requires frequent travel to China. Shanghai has the newest releases, and even movies that haven't been released yet, for pennies on the dollar. You could get 25 new DVD's for $39.95 over there. Now if your picky, and you want the sound track to actaully match the visual track (i.e. sound of voices matching movement of lips) this may not be for you.

I was mostly referring to the "normal" stuff like Two Towers where everyone and their dog is selling it, and usually the margins are probably quite low due to all the competition. The online guys still need to recoup their freight costs on the orders so their prices are typically a bit higher. I happen to be one of those lazy asses who is definitely willing to pay $2 extra to avoid walking into a Wal-Mart at this time of year (shudders).

Speaking of that, have you guys seen the returns lines at retailers this week? Unbelievable. The returns line at Best Buy was an hour long. My question is, do you really need to return this item that badly? I need to make a few returns without receipts to my local Wal-Mart (because they take back anything), but there's no way in hell that I'm even thinking of trying it until at least a week from now.
