Bay Hill Invitational - Bay Hill Country Club

http://www.bayhill.com/html/images/coursemap/map.jpg

Bay Hill is a long course, with the tournament playing about 7300 yards. The fairways are wide open which will benefit the long drivers who may not have the best accuracy. This course is also a true risk/reward layout. Numerous options are available to go at the pen, but numerous bunkers around the green and a good number of hole with water hazzards could make that strategy backfire (especially the bunkers with this group :) )

Hole 1 - 441 yard - Par 4 - A tough opening hole - in fact it's the second toughest on the course. Dog leg left with fairway bunkers to the right so don't hit it through the fairway. The green is tightly bunkered on all sides making it almost an island green.

Hole 2 - 218 yard - Par 3 - 3 Huge bunkers surround this green.

Hole 3 - 395 yard - Par 4 - The bigdanger is a hooked drive will find the lake on the left.

Hole 4 - 530 yard - Par 5 - The easist hole on the front. Again a lake along the right. This one encroaches into the fairway in a couple of places making controling distances vital.

Hole 5 - 384 yard - Par 4 - Another heavily bunkered green.

Hole 6 - 558 yard - Par 5 - Dog Leg right - water right (sound familer). The more your willing to go out over the water on the tee ball - the shorter the second shot is into the green - big risk reward hole.

Hole 7 - 197 yard - Par 3 - The shortest hole on the course, and a heavily bunkered green.

Hole 8 - 459 yard - Par 4 - The toughest hole on the course. Small green (for Bay Hill anyway), surrounded on 3 sides by bunkers and water on the 4th (bet on the pin being close to the water on Sunday).

Hole 9 - 467 yard - Par 4 - Not much easier than the preceeding hole, but the open fairway allows for players to go for more off the tee.

-----------------------------------------------------

Hole 10 - 400 yard - Par 4 - slight dog leg left.

Hole 11 - 438 yard - Par 4 - Water along the left and boardering the green with bunkers on the opposite side.

Hole 12 - 580 yard - Par 5 - Longest hole on the course, but straight ahead with not much trouble other than greenside bunkers.

Hole 13 - 364 yard - Par 4 - Pretty short par 4, but water fronting the green makes it anything but a gimmie birdie. Better his a good approach here.

Hole 14 - 206 yard - Par 3 - Big bunkers left and right just short of the green, they look nice, but shouldn't come into play. A big bunker behind the green could come into play if the tee ball it hot or long.

Hole 15 - 425 yard - Par 4 - Dog leg right - green surrounded by bunkers.

Hole 16 - 517 yard - Par 5 - The easiest hole on the course. Water on both sides of the fairway as you approach the green. A small creek between the two cuts right in front of the green. Can be reached in two, but come up short or off line and your dropping with a penalty.

Hole 17 - 219 yard - Par 3 - Water in front on the right and behind. Oh yeah...and bunkers to the left.

Hole 18 - 441 yard - Par 4 - Water on the right by the green, bunkers to the left, open fairway favors the big hitters. Great finishing hole.

Bay Hill Invitational - Round 1

Group 1

Marshall Herd - A great iron shot at number 2 placed Herd only 8 feet from the cup and the easy putt was made for birdie. However, the stroke gained at 2 was lost at 3 when he failed to get up and down from the fringe. Got a bird again at 4 and another at 6 but gave one of the strokes back at 7 when he 3 putted. Front 9 Score 35 - (- 1)

David Gonzalez - David started out extremely cold. He nearly doubled number 1 when his drive found the fairway bunkers, second shot greenside bunker, blasted out through the green, a poor chip back left him a tough 11 footer for bogey, which he made. Then he followed the bogey at 1 with another at 2. However, Gonzalez regained his focus to go birdie: birdie and get back to even par. He also birdied 6 when he decided to go for the green in two, made it, but could only manage a 2 putt. Front 9 Score 35 - (- 1)

Kyle Kappe III - Par, Par, Par...you getting the idea. On the par 5 6th - Kappe hit a big drive (ok not Gonzalez big, but big for Kappe) and he decided to go for the green in two. Unfortunately, he pulled the ball off the lie and it ended up in the water left of the green. He took his drop chipped up and 2 putted for bogey. Then he finished the front with 2 pars. Front 9 Score 37 - (+1)

Breeze

Group 2

Brian "Putting Butcher" Babson - Birdies number 1, mostly because his drive was around 350 yards and he was left with a wedge into the green. On two his 5 iron ended up in a trap, then the first trap shot hit the lip and rolled back in. The second time Babson managed to get the ball out of the trap, but it was no where near the pen and he was lucky to two put (double bogey). Babson gets back to even par with a birdie at number 3. He reaches number 6 in two and 2 putts for birdie. He also gets a birdie at 8. Front 9 Score 34 - (-2)

Fad Braxton Last week at Pebble a slow start on his first 9 basically kept him from playing on the weeked. The tourney he starts out by hitting the ball in the fairway bunkers to the right. Clips the lip with his 5 iron approach shot, which kicks the ball up in the air and he only manages to get about 70 yards and the ball remains in the rough. Shot three catches a flyer with takes the spin off the ball - the ball hits the green - rolls through and ends up in the back bunker, a blast out and 2 putts later Braxton has started the round with a double bogey 6. Number 2 is only slightly better. The tee ball misses the green and Braxton isn't the best with a short game, but he does manage to get a bogey. Braxton then settles down and birdies 4, and a 15 foot putt on 7 is also for bird. However, a ball in the greenside bunker on 8 ends up giving Braxton another bogey. Front 9 Score 38 - (+2)

Kevin Wayne - Wayne misses a 9 foot par putt at 2, but gets his stroke back at 3 by making a putt of equal distance. The rest of the front nine is played to par. Front 9 Score 36- (EVEN)

Group 3

Rolin Bywater - Rolin shot a million at Pebble Beach, and was looking for a hot start here at Bay Hill to take some pressure off. He got it...Birdied number 1 and 2 with solid play on all shots. A great chip at 3 saves par. At number 4, probably the easiest hole on the course, Rolin killed his drive...not thinking he would reach the water, but he did and he ended up scrambling for a bogey. However, he managed to sink a 14 footer on the next par 5 for birdie then followed that up by getting back to back birds on the tough 8th and 9th holes. Front 9 Score 32 - (-4)

Jimmy Fuijita - Jimmy didn't start out as hot as his playing partner Bywater, but it didn't take long for him to heat up. On number 3 he birdied, made a 12 foot putt on 4 for birdie, got another on 5 for 3 in a row. Another great putt on 7 gave him his 4th bird to no bogeys on the front. Front 9 Score 32 - (-4)

Mike Tokunaga - Mike was no where near his playing partners on the front, but most people weren't. Mike started with a par, but missed a 12 footer on 2 and settled for bogey. He got his stroke back on 4, and made a tough put on 7 to save par. Then he sunk a 20 footer on 9 to finish the front 1 under.
Front 9 Score 35 - (-1)

Group 4

Colton Mayes - Mays starts off the front 9 with a routeen par. Then his putter gets extremely hot. Sinks an 11 footer on 2 for birdie, a 14 footer on 3 for birdie, nearly makes a 30 footer for eagle on 4, a 20+ footer on 5 for birdie. Number 6 the iron approach was only about 3 feet way - another bird. The putt at 7 was made from 12 feet for birdie. That was 6 straight birds. On 8 he makes another putt - this one from 17 feet - but this was following a bad chip and it save his par.
Front 9 Score 30 - (-6)

Alan Kelmay - Pars the first 4 holes, birdies 5 with a great putt, but on number 6 he decides to go way out over the water to shorten the hole, but he doesn't reach land. Because his ball basically travelled entirely over water he was best off reteeing. Knowing he couldn't afford to do it again he didn't cut the corner as short, got his drive in play and eventually missed a 12 footer for bogey (double). A great iron on 7 finishes 8 inches from the hole and gets one of the strokes back. On 8 Kelmays approach was left right and ended up in the bunker. Despite the fact Kelmay is actually one of the best sand players on the tour - he still isn't very good. His blast out is skulled and the ball rolls over the green and into the water on the opposite side. He manages to double the hole. Front 9 Score 38 - (+2)

Rob Nielsen - Bogey's 3 when his approach shot is a long way from the pin and he 3 putts. Bogeys 5 when he can't get up and down from the trap, bogeys 8 when he can't get up and down from the trap. Front 9 Score 39 - (+3)

Breeze

Group 5

Kevin Boroniec - Another player hoping to get a hot start so he doesn't have to sweat making the cut. A 3 putt green at number 1 is a bad way to start if your looking to get off early. He does get the stroke back on two with a 4 iron off the tee to within 5 feet. Goes under par at 6 when he reaches it in 2 and 2 putts, but he gives the stroke back on 9. Front 9 Score 36 - (EVEN)

Ron Juckett - Pars the first 5 holes, pretty much without any dramatics - no shots at bird no real risks of bogey. Birdies 6 when the 70 yard 3rd shot lob wedge landed 8 feet from the pin and stuck. The tee ball at 7 was a high 4 iron that landed 15 feet way and back up to within 11 feet. The tricky putt was made and Juckett had back to back birds. Number 8 proved fatal to his front 9 score however. His tee ball was in the rough with a difficult lie. His second shot was yanked left out of the thick stuff and the ball ended up in the water. He had to settle for a double bogey 6. Number 9 was also bogeyed this time due to 3 putts. Front 9 Score : 37 (+1)

Kyle Smith - Pars the first 4 holes then birdies 5. Pars 6, but birds again at 7. No bogey's on the front. Front 9 Score 34 - (-2)

Group 6

AJ Tucker - A great birdie putt from around 20 gets Tuck off to a good start. Then an iron shot on off the tee on the par 3 7th set up another bird. No bogey's were scored on the front and Tucker was never really in any risk of getting a bogey. Front 9 Score: 34 (-2)

TE Almighty - The runner up at Pebble hoping to keep his good play going starts off making a 14 foot putt for bird on the first hole, but he misses a par putt from about 9 feet on the second. The 6th hole is birdied when he nearly reaches it in two and gets up and down. The 7th is also birdied. Front 9 Score: 34 (-2)

Stan Gunner - The winner at Pebble's hopes of a back to back were severly hampered on the first hole. The drive off the tee found the lip of the bunker on the right of the fairway. Because the ball was so close to the lip - Gunner couldn't follow through on his swing, so he was forced to get the ball back into the fairway without advancing it much. The 3rd shot came up short of the green and ended up in a greenside bunker. The blast out was ordinary and 3 putts later Gunner had the first triple bogey of the season. On 4 Gunner gets one back, but a ball in the greenside bunker on 5 prevents him from keeping that stroke. The bunker was again his nemisis on 8. Front 9 Score: 40 (+4)

Group 7

Duncan Baxter - Baxter looked textbook on the front. Playing fairways, middle of greens and 2 putts. His conservative play was finally rewarded on 6 when his 115 yard 3rd shot was cozey and he tapped in for birdie. Front 9 Score: 35 (-1)

Jeff Nights - Nights started off this tourney by hitting the ball in the bunker, then his second shot out of the trap rolled through the green. It didn't end up in the bunker behind the green, but in the thick grass on the lip. With no stance and a difficult time getting the club to the ball Nights chip was less than spectacular and eventually led to a 3 putt double bogey. The next hole was only slightly better. The tee ball missed the green and he didn't get up and down. The 3rd hole was also a disappointing bogey. He did birdie the 4th, but then bogeyed the 5th. The 6th hole was his first par of the day. Number 7 was birdied when his trickly 14 footer down hill was sunk. On 9 nights was faced with a double braking putt from 17 feet to save par. After looking at it from all angles he decided an aggressive run was in order. The ball hit the back of the hole and dropped in. Had it lipped out Nights would have been left with probably a 5+ footer coming back. Front 9 Score: 39 (+3)

Michael Weideman - A great drive on 3, perfectly possitioned Michael to make an aggressive play at the flag, but his second shot was left right and he ended up about 31 feet from the pin and had to settle for 2 putts. A great put at 7 gave him a birdie, but he missed a side hill 7 footer with about a 6 in break on 8 for bogey. Front 9 Score: 36 (EVEN)

Its Craptacular - Last week Its played very solid, but there were too many low scores for him to make the cut. This week he starts off with a par, but bogeys number 2 on a 3 putt from better than 30 feet. He gets his sroke back on 3, then sinks a slippery 9 footer on 4 to save par. A lazer beem iron finished about 8 inches from the pen in 5, and another iron on the par 3 7th was within 6 feet. A bad bunker shot on 8 led to a bogey however. Front 9 Score: 35 (-1)

Group 1 - Back 9

Marshall Herd - (-1)
Herd's back 9 starts off great with a bird on 10. On 15 he scrapes it around and chips up to give himself a 9 footer for par, but the putt is missed and he drops a stroke. On 16 he reaches the green in two, but can't make an Eagle putt and has to settle for bird. The par 3 17th catches him by surprise. His tee ball misses the green, the chip up is within 10 feet, but the par putt is missed and he bogeys. 35:36 - (-1)

David Gonzalez - (-1)
2 pars after the turn, then a birdie on 12 thanks to a great drive with set him up to go for the green in two. His rolled up just short, and easy pitch and putt gave him birdie. The rest of the 9 was parred until 18, where he drove the ball in the rough and couldn't make a good approach shot, then didn't get up and down from the fringe.
35:36 - (-1)

Kyle Kappe III - (+1)
Kappe was hoping to get hot on the back, but he just couldn't get anything rolling. His first real birdie chance occured at 13, but the 13 footer was missed and he settled for par. On 15 he had to make a great chip and putt to save par. The rest of the 9 was uneventful. 37:36 - (+1)

Group 2 - Back 9

Brian "Putting Butcher" Babson - (-2)
Consistency isn't a term used frequently to discribe Babson, but the back was pretty dull. Pars all the way - until 18 when he distroyed a drive and had a short approach, which he managed to tuck in around the green. The 4 footer was made for birdie and a back 9 of 1 under. 34:35 - (-3)

Fad Braxton - (+2)
The 13th hole yielded a birdie when a 22 foot putt was made, but the next 2 holes were a different story. The tee ball on 14 hit hard on the green and rolled through to the back bunker. A terrible sand shot and 3 putts gave Braxton a 5 on the par 3. The next hole was also bogeyed. 38:38 - (+4)

Kevin Wayne - (EVEN)
Birdies number 10 when the 2nd shot 9 iron backed to within 6 feet. 11 is parred, but 12 is birdied when an 11 foot putt was dropped. Another putt - this one from 19 feet was made on 13 for birdie, and a great chip on 15 saves par. Number 17 the ball ends up in the left bunker and Wayne settles for bogey. On 18 the tee ball was big, but the second shot found the water right of the green. Drop, chip up and 2 putt for double bogey 6 and a backside score of 36. 36:36 - (EVEN)

Group 3 - Back 9

Rolin Bywater - (-4)
The first two holes on the back are pars and Rolin really never threatened to get bird, but the par 5 12th is birdied when the 70 yard 3rd shot into the green finished only 4 feet from the pin. The next 3 are parred and it appears Bywater's hot streak has slowed down. The par 5 16th hole is played like the 12, only the approach isn't quite as good - this time it stops 8 feet, but the putt is made and Bywater goes a stroke lower. The Par 3 17th tee ball is faded in and hits only 6 feet from the green, but it doesn't stop rolling until it's 12 feet from the hole. Bywater's putt slips in the side and he has consecutive birdies. The 18th is played beautifully and he gets his 3 straight birdie to close out the back.
32:32 - (-8)

Jimmy Fuijita - (-4)
Jimmy matched Rolin's incredible play on the front, and was hoping to do the same on the back. Two pars to start off the side are followed by two birdies. Number 12 goe in 3 strokes thanks to a 17 foot putt, number 13 goes in 3 strokes thanks to an iron approach to within 7 feet. Number 16 is birdied, number 17 is a par thanks to a nifty up and down, and number 18 is also birdied - meaning Fuijita didn't just match Bywater he beat him for the day. 32:31 - (-9)

Mike Tokunaga - (-1)
Bogey at 13 and a birdie at 16 offset each other and the back 9 is played to even par. 35:36 - (-1)

Breeze

Group 4 - Back 9

Colton Mayes - (-6)
Mayes shot an incredible 30 on the front, with 6 straight birdies. The backside starts with a birdie at 10 when once again his putter proves magical. Another birdie is scored on 12 when his 100 yard 3rd shot into the green was close to the pin. The putter saves him a stroke on 13 then the iron approach on 14 gives him is 3rd birdie on the back. The par 5 16th is also birdied. and his 30 frontside score is followed by an impressive 32. 30:32 (-10)

Alan Kelmay - (+2)
Kelmay needing to get below par on the back to give himself a chance to make the cut, gets a birdie at number 10 thanks to an iron that putt him 8 feet below the hole. He hits another nice iron at 13 for birdie and closes the back with 3 putts on 18 from 24 feet for bogey. 38:35 (+1)

Rob Nielsen - (+3)
Last tourney when Rob got off to a slow start he rebounded well and had a shot to make the cut. This time he missed a 6 foot birdie putt on 10, then he made an 11 footer for birdie. He missed a makeable 14 footer for bird on 12, then got a 9 footer to save par on 13. Things then seemed to settle down until 18 - where a perfectly placed drive and a nice iron approach were followed by a 13 foot putt for birdie. 39:34 - (+1)

Tuckers 2 birdie no bogey performance on the front is echoed on the back. Birdies occur on the par 3s (14 and 17). Both times great putts were made. A great putt was also made on number 13 to save par. 34:34 (-4)

TE Almighty - (-2)
Pars 10 thru 14. Number 15 stars off great with a solid drive down the middle. The approach to the green is good but not outstanding. The putt is from 18 feet and is a big breaker, but the speed is perfect and the line is well read, giving him is first birdie on the back. Number 16 is played textbook and number 17 is birdied with another great putt. 34:33 (-5)

Stan Gunner - (+4)
Gunner, already a champion in 2004, needed to show his mettle on the back if he was to have any hope of making the cut. Pars at the first 4 holes and things are looking bleak. But a great putt bird at 14 seemed to wake him up. (maybe from too much partying with his new found $$$$ :D). Birdies 15, follows with a birdie at 16 and another at 18 closing with 4 birds in 5 holes and announcing that he may still be around on Saturday. 40:32 - (EVEN)

JAG,

Both actually. The description was for color, but the game is currently set up for the weather to be a factor in scoring. Weather effects were present when the scores used to determine probabilities for scoring were created - so in affect they are part of the game.

I'm currently trying to devise a way to separate weather and it's effects, and also allow players some additional points to distribute that would make them a better player under adverse conditions or improve an existing setting. Maybe for next season.

Group 7 - Back 9

Duncan Baxter - (-1)
Makes an aggressive run at birdie on 11, but misses and his putt roles 6 feet by. But the steady handed foreigner makes the comebacker for par. A good drive on 12 puts him in a position to attack the pin, but the iron shot isn't very good and he has to settle for a 2 putt par. A great putt on 13 gives him a birdie, and a great putt on 14 saves par. A perfectly positioned drive on 15 allows him to attack the pin, which he does successfully when the ball stops only 18 inches away. Number 16 is birdied as well when then 3rd shot 8 iron is tight. 35: 33 (-4)

Jeff Nights - (+3)
Very incosistent front 9 consisted of 3 bogeys, 2 birdies, 1 double and 2 pars. The back starts with a bogey then goes to birdie. After a par at 12 birdies follow at 13 and 14. Par on 15 then 2 more birds. The backside is very good to Jeff and gives him a shot at weekend play, but he'll need to play more consistently to be a factor.
39:32 - (-1)

Michael Weideman - (EVEN)
Birdies number 12 by reaching in two an two putting. Birdies 16 when he tries to reach in two, comes up just short, but gets up and down. Bogey's 17 when he misses the green and his bunker shot is poor. Then gets the stroke back on 18 by sinking a slippery 12 footer downhill. 36: 34 - (-2)

Its Craptacular - (-1)
Pars out till number 15. On 15 it's a good not great drive, a good not great approach and a great putt. Sinks a big breaking 14 footer. 16 is an easy birdie and another birdie is added on 18 when a putt is made from 22 feet. 35: 33 (-4)

Fad Braxton's been pounding away at the driving range, trying to find a cure for his erratic ball flight. Trying to make something happen, he's been playing aggressively. But he's started missing left, and missing right, and now he has no idea where the ball's going. He's starting to lose his composure.

Suddenly, who should arrive at the driving range but the Dolly Llama, Fad's personal swing coach. The Llama reminds him that the only thing within his control is making a pure, effortless swing. The ball, then, will go where it will.

Fad starts to ask a question, but the Llama disappears as quickly as he arrived. Fad then wonders how a cloned llama could have possibly spoken to him in English. A little confused, and a little timid, Fad decides to play the next round without any concern over his results, just to see what will happen.

He chooses to play Neutral.

Final Group - Front 9

Sterling Silvers - A player who really impressed with 4 solid rounds at Pebble started out shaky here. Silvers was lucky to just bogey one after an awful drive, and number 2 wasn't much better. The tee ball was way long and a long putt saved bogey. A long putt on 3 saves par. On number 4 Silver's got the driver working, as his shot found the middle of the fairway. He reached the par 5 in two and two putted for bird. Number 8 was a bit testy. Silvers approach found the bunker - and his out was rather pathetic. However, he calmly sunk a 32 footer for par. The confidence from 8 carried over to 9 where he hit a huge driver, stuck the approach and made the short birdie putt to finish the front 9 even par after that terrible bogey bogey start. Front 9 Score: 36 (EVEN)

Shane Kormelink - Shane was the exact opposite of Silvers. A quick start on the first two hole had Shane 2 under. A great 3rd shot into the green from inside 100 yards gave Kormelink another birdie and had him 3 under early. However, a ball in the trap at 5 gave a stroke back. Kormelink rallied on 6 with a great drive and second shot, excellent chip and a short birdie putt, but a ball in the H2O on 8 ended up giving two strokes back and he finished the front a disappointing 1 under. Front 9 Score: 35 - (-1)

Bradley Nowell - Birdies number 1, but finds the bunkers on 2 and needs a 26 foot putt to save par. A 7 foot putt is missed on 4 and Nowell has to settle for par. The putter doesn't betray him on 7 though as his iron off the tee is 11 feet and the putt is drained. Another makeable putt is missed on 8 and the frontside closes 1 under. Front 9 Score: 35 - (-1)

Final Group - Back 9

Sterling Silvers - (EVEN)
Silvers back 9 starts off much better than the front - with a very solid birdie. The next 5 holes are uneventful as Silvers makes great contact, but unfortunately doesn't really have any plays at birdie. On 16 Silvers couldn't have walked out and placed his drive in the fairway any better, and his second shot was equally as good. The 25 foot eagle putt was tracking the hole, but came up a couple of revolutions short - focing Silvers to settle for a birdie. 36:34 - (-2)

Shane Kormelink - (-1)
Pars the first 4 then throws one back on 14 when he 3 putts. Nothing else eventful on the back. 35:37 - (EVEN)

Bradley Nowell - (-1)
Bogey at 11, a good putt at 13 saves par, a missed putt at 15 throws one back. Number 16 is parred when the drive is good (not as good as Silvers' but good). Second shot stops in the frog hair on the front edge, Nowell elects to chip and the ball stops 4 inches from the hole. Tap in for birdie. Number 18 the approach shot misses the green right, but the Nowell gets a good lie and he makes a aggressive play at the pin. The ball tracks the hole all the way and falls for a birdie. 35:36 - (-1)

Bay Hill Invitational - First Round Summary - Gary McCord

"Wow what a first day. Mays goes out and plays darts with the pins on the front and then I'll be darned if he didn't almost match it on the back. The playing partners Fuijita and Bywater - Oh my God. It was like (singing) "Anything you can do - I can do better." This is going to be interesting. The 3 players are definately in the drivers seat, but last week Gunner, Herd and Almighty were up early, and Gunner fell back before reestablishing his game and the lead, and Herd was caught by Silvers. It's early yet and with all that water and bunkers - especially the bunkers - since it seems a ball in the bunker equals a bogey with these guys - anything can happen. Unlike lask week, where it was pretty easy to predict who would miss the cut - this week it only looks like Fad "Incoming!" Braxton is going to have his work cut out. I have seen him on the driving range working on his game. Actually I've been watching him closely. I want to make sure I know where he is at all times to keep from being hit by one of his tee balls.

It's much too crowded and too early to project where the cut will be - at least with any confidence, but personally, I wouldn't want to be sitting on 4 under at the end of the day tomorrow."

Ok, we're ready to go for round 2.

The projected cut is 3 under par, but of course that can change based on play. We will describe the outcomes by dividing the players into 3 groups:

- Those who should make the cut
- Those probably not making the cut
- Those on the bubble

We will reassess which group each person is in at the turn:

Currently this is the breakdown:

Those who should make the cut
Mayes
Fuijita
Bywater
Smith
Almighty
Baxter
Craptacular
Tucker

Probably won't make the cut
Braxton
Kappe III
Kelmay
Nielsen

Bubble
Babson
Weideman
Silvers
Nights
Nowell
Gonzalez
Herd
Tokunaga
Gunner
Juckett

Wayne
Kormelink

Round 2 : Front 9 - Probable Cut Makers

Colton Mayes - (-10)
Mayes, who was almost unconcious the first day, started the second day with a bogey just to prove he was human. However, a perfectly possitioned drive on number 4 set him up to go for the green in two. His second shot, hit the green and rolled to the back fringe. He elected to putt the ball, but his putt came up short and he settled for a par. He finishes the frontside even par.
(-10)

Jimmy Fuijita - (-9)
Like Mayes he bogeys the opening hole, but unlike Mayes he also bogeys the second hole. An unbelievable drive at 4 leaves him just a 4 iron to the green. He hits it beautifully then sinks the 16 foot eagle putt to get back to even par. He can't however stay under-par on the front, as he bogeys nine to close out with a 37. (-8)

Rolin Bywater - (-8)
Doesn't bogey 1 like Mayes and Fuijita - he doubles it. The drive goes through the fairway and e even though he isn't in the bunker he has no shot at the green. He lays up about 50 yards short. He attempts a lob shot with his 3rd shot, but it lands about a foot short of his target, hits the lip of the bunker and rolls back in. He blasts out of the bunker and 2 putts. A bunker on 5 proves costly to Bywater as he adds another bogey to his score. The frontside is finished 3 over par 39 - possibly putting Bywater in with the guys on the bubble. (-5)

Kyle Smith - (-5)
Smith distroys his ball off the tee. It rolls through the fairway and into some thick brush and bushes. Though the spotters saw where the ball went in - they couldn't locate it. Because the ball was lost, Smith was forced to go back to the tee and start over. He eventually closed out the hole with a double bogey 6. Birdies on both the frontside par 5 get him back to even par, but a bogey at the par 3 7th and another on the 9 complete Smith's rollercoaster front 9 with a 38 and definately put him in danger of not making the cut. (-3)

TE Almighty - (-5)
Gets through the first hole unscathed. A great iron on 3 gives him a shot at bird, but he missed the 8 footer. On the 4th hole he distroys his drive - hits his 4 iron to within 8 feet and sinks his eagle putt. He attempts to reach the par 5 6th in two, but comes up just shot, however a decent chip and awesome putt gives him bird. Number 7 is also birdied when Almighty sinks a 23 footer. A stroke is thrown back at 9. The frontside is closed at 3 under.
(-8)

Duncan Baxter - (-4)
Solid play gives Baxter long birdie putts at the first two holes, but neither is made. A 20 foot putt is made on at 3 for a birdie. A birdie at 6 is set up by a perfectly placed drive, and the 5 iron off the tee at 7 hits 18 feet long, but backs up to within 7 feet and the putt is made. 8 & 9 are also birdied and the conservative Baxter appears to be red hot heading into the back 9 - Frontside 32. (-8)

Its Craptacular - (-4)
Craptacular's mind was obviously on the beach early as he found bunkers on number 1 and 2, both leading to bogey. A great putt at 5 saves par, but another bogey sneaks in at 9 and he finished only 1 stroke below 40 on the front and is now in danger of not making the cut.
(-1)

AJ Tucker - (-4)
Tucker plays par until hole 9. His drive at nine isn't particularly good, and he's left with about 200 yards into the green from the first cut. The 5 iron from the fringe was hit in the screws and the ball stops 9 feet from the hole. The putt is sunk and Tucker has a 35 on the front. (-5)

Round 2 : Front 9 - Probable Cuts

Fad Braxton - (+4)
Braxton despiritly needs to make a move to get to the cut line. He pars one, but a birdie at two gives him hope. However, pars at 3 thru 6 followed by a bogey at 7 really hamper his chances as holes are running out. A 16 foot putt is made at 8, but unfortunately it's only to save par. Number 9 is also parred and the front nine is played even. (+4)

Kyle Kappe III - (+1)
Par, Par, then a big breaking 11 footer was sunk for bird at 3. Another bird at 4 is followed by 2 solid pars. Kappe tries to reach the par 5 6th hole in 2, but doesn't, however he does get up and down for birdie. Then he sinks a slick 10 foot downhill putt at 8 and is making a charge at the cut line. Front 9 - 32.
(-3)

Alan Kelmay - (+1)
Kelmay's hopes of making the cut are pretty much dashed early, as he finds the greenside bunkers both times and doesn't get up and down on either hole. He does give himself a shot by getting bird on 5 after a huge drive gives him only a 5 iron into the green. He gets up and down from a bunker on 6 then sinks a long putt for bird at 7 puts him back to even for the day. A 3 putt bogey at 8 and a par at 9 and Kelmay is one stroke higher at the end of the first 9 then he was when he started the day.(+2)

Rob Nielsen - (+1)
Last week in a very similar possition, Nielsen made a very admirable charge at the cut line coming up just short. This time he starts with 2 bogeys. A terribly short drive at number 1 leads to the first bogey and the bunker at 2 leads to the second. Rob's focus and toughness comes thorugh on the par 5s as he birdies both with great drives. A bunker at 7 leads to bogey and another bunker at 8 leads to double bogey. Front 9 score 39 (+4)

Round 2 : Front 9 - On the Bubble

Brian "Putting Butcher" Babson - (-3)
Babson makes a tough putt on number 1, the good news is he made a putt, the bad news is he HAD to make an 9 footer for Par! On number 3 he misses the green with a wedge in his hand then fails to get up and down. A big let down on the par 5 4th as he distroyed his drive but missed the fairway and had to settle for par. The 5th started with a good drive and was followed by a Wedge that sat down only a few feet from the pin. The par 5 6th hole was reached in two because he distroyed a drive right down the middle. The eagle putt of 19 feet was left short and he settled for bird. The long par 4 9th hole is one that plays into Babson's hands. His length off the tee combined with the wide open fairway - gives him a chance to be aggressive (not that he needs much of a push). He kills his tee ball, knocks an iron to within 12 feet and..........makes the putt. He finishes the front 2 under and looks to be in good shape to play on Saturday. (-5)

Michael Weideman - (-2)
Birdies number 3 and then 3 putts number 8 to give the stroke back. He stays at 2 under and is holding his breath hoping to get under par on the back. (-2)

Sterling Silvers - (-2)
The 4 iron off the tee at number 2 was spectacular and the tap in putt gave him an early birdie. Silvers can't reach the par 5 4th hole in two, but he's hitting his irons well and his 3rd shot wedge is close and the putt is made for birdie. Pars continue until number 8 - where he gets another solid birdie. Silvers closes the frontside with a 33 and appears to have climbed off the bubble. (-5)

Jeff Nights - (-1)
In round 1 Nights was terrible on 4 of the first 5 holes eventually shooting a 39. He rebounded on the back to put himself close to making the cut. Nights pars the first hole, but then the struggles which got him Thursday on the front reared their ugly head again. On 2 nights is overly aggressive with a downhill 12 footer for bird. HIs putt misses the hole and stops rolling 6 feet way. The comebacker is missed and Nights has a 3 putt bogey. His Iron shot at 3 is bad, misses the green and he doesn't get up and down. On Number 4 Nights drive is just out of the fairway and on the edge of the first cut and the long rough. He decides to layup, his 3rd shot 9 iron isn't close to the pin and he 3 putts for his 3 straight bogey. Jeff regroups until the 8th hole were he drops another stroke. His 39 on the front Thursday is 1 stroke better than his front today, and his chances of making the cut appear gone.(+3)

Bradley Nowell - (-1)
2nd shot at 1 ends up in the shortside bunker...with little green to work with Nowell bogeys. On number 4, Bradley his one of his best drives and easily reaches the green in two. A long but straight uphill putt is made for eagle. The tee ball on the par 3 7th ends up in a bunker and a bogey is scored. However a super 3 iron on 9 gives Nowell a run at birdie which he converts. Front 9 score of 1 under and poor play by many golfers gives Bradley hope of making the cut. (-2)

David Gonzalez - (-1)
A solid fairway green 1 putt birdie at 3. Hole 5's second shot ends up in a bunker and you can guess what happened. Number 8 is also bogeyed with 3 putts from 30 feet. Frontside is 1 over and Gonzalez needs to rally on the back. (EVEN)

Marshall Herd - (-1)
A 20 foot putt in made on 1 for a birdie. But a bad drive on 3 ends up leading to bogey. On number 6 Herd's drive misses the fairway, and he can't go for the green in two. He lays up, but a terrible 3rd shot 9 iron misses the green, puting him in risk of dropping a stroke. An excellent bump and run chip stops only 18 inches from the pin and the tap in is made for par. The heavily bunkered 7th proves to be too much for Herd, but he rallys at 8 for a birdie. His drive at 9 is hooked way right into the rough and he can't get his second shot to the green, the 3rd shot stops 23 feet from the pin and he can't convert the long par putt. Herd finishes the front 1 over par. (EVEN)

Mike Tokunaga - (-1)
Par Par Par, an excellently placed tee ball at 4 lets Mike go for the green in two. He makes it (barely) and 2 putts for birdie. Despite the fact Mike was playing aggressive, no real other birdie opportunities presented themselves. In fact his aggressive play nearly caused him to lose a stroke on 6, but a good chip saved him. (-2)

Stan Gunner - (EVEN)
Last weeks winner was really hot and cold on Thursday, but the back 9 32 made everyone sit up and notice. Would he contined his hot play today? A trap bogey at 1 and it didn't look like it, but it was early. A bird at 2 followed by another at 4 and yet another at 5 and people were aware that Gunner was making a move. However sand shots at 7 and 8 weren't converted well and the best Gunner could do was even on the front. (EVEN)

Ron Juckett - (EVEN)
Juckett's chances of making the cut disappeared rapidly. Starting Friday's round Bogey, Bogey, Bogey and at that point he was pretty much finished. He did birdie the 6th but gave that stroke back at 8. Frontside score of 39. (+3)

Kevin Boroniec - (EVEN)
A double at 1 was caused by a poor sand shot another bogey at 3 occured when he missed the green being aggressive from the fairway and he shortside himself. The chip was good for the situation, but the 16 footer for par was missed. At 5 he did get a stroke back by making a 13 foot birdie putt. Frontside score 38. (+2)

Kevin Wayne - (EVEN)
Wayne pars every hole except numver 5. On 5 he missed the green, found a bunker and the rest should be obvious at this point. (+1)

Shane Kormelink - (EVEN)
A right to left breaking 14 foot putt downhill was made at 3 for birdie. Great drives in the middle of the fairway at 5 and 6 allow Kormelink to shoot for the pin, which he did and he made the putts for birdies, finishing the front 3 under and given the poor play of people around him on the leaderboard - a legitimate shot at making the cut. (-3)

Ok, not too bad. As long as The Putting Butcher doesn't butcher too many backside putts, looks like he'll be playing another couple of days. Of course, considering how far out Mays is and the tougher pin placements, this doesn't look to be the tourney Babson's gonna win.

Back 9 - Players Probably Cut

Fad Braxton - (+4)
Braxton needed to shoot low on the front to give himself a shot at making the cut, but he only managed a 36. On the back, he rallied and proved why he has a tour card. His drives seemed to straighten out quite a bit and he was capable at firing at the pin. A super iron on 14 gives him a bird. Another great iron on 15 leads to birdie, and a solidly played par 5 16 is also birdied - giving him 3 in a row. His erratic driver hurts him at 18 and he finishes the back at 2 under, and hopefully he'll be able to take that momentum into next weeks tournament.Round 2 Score 36:34 - (+2)

Rob Nielsen - (+4)
The back 9 in started with a birdie created by sinking a 17 foot putt. Another birdie is scored at 15 - this one set up by a great drive. However bogeys at 13, 16 and 17 out do the 2 birds and the backside score of 37 is recorded. Round 2 Score 39:37 (+5)

Ron Juckett - (+3)
A terrible frontside basically ened any hopes of making the cut for Ron, but he battled through the back managing 4 birdies (12, 14, 16, 18) - including a chip in bird on 18. He did have 2 bogeys at 11, 15.
Round 2 Score 39:34 (+1)

Jeff Nights - (+3)
Like Juckett the frontside basically killed Nights' hopes, but he wasn't going down without a fight. Sweatspot started living up to his nickname - the back 9 was played without a bogey on the card. Birdies at 13, 14 and 16 put him at even par for the tournament - nice but probably just short of making the cut.

Round 2 : Back 9 - Players Probably Going to Make the Cut

Colton Mayes - (-10)
Mayes didn't play the front 9 particularlly well, but he still opened his lead by a stroke. A great 14 foot putt on 11 saved par and seemed to get Mayes going. A solidly played birdie on 12 was followed by a long drive on 13 which set up another birdie. Mayes missed a 10 foot birdie putt on 14, but got going again on 15 with a perfectly played birdie. Number 16 was birdied when he sank a right to left breaking 9 footer. His impressive back 9 put him at an impressive score going into the weekend.
Round 2 Score 36:32 - (-14)

Jimmy Fuijita - (-8)
Jimmy started off the back with a double bogey 6. On 13 he made a tough putt for birdie. On 17 his tee ball miss the green and ended up on the lip of the bunker in the thick grass, on the short side of the green. Fuijita was forced to stand with 1 foot in the trap and choak down on the club to below the grip in an effort to get the club to the ball. This was almost an impossible shot to get close and - Jimmy didn't get it close. 2 putts later and Fuijita had a bogey. He did get a birdie on the last hole when he chips in from the frog's hair. While he easily made the cut, the 2 over par round has to be disappointing especially when Mayes was able to play as well as he did.
Round 2 Score 37:37 - (-7)

TE Almighty - (-8)
Coming off a 33 on the front it appeared TE might make a bit of charge on the back, but it wasn't to be. A bogey at 10 and 12 was only countered by a birdie on 16.
Round 2 Score 33:37 - (-7)

Duncan Baxter - (-8)
A 32 on the front also signalled a potential mover, but like Almighty his hot streak slowed on the back. Short drives that missed the fairway on 11 and 12 both led to bogeys and Baxter was headed in the wrong direction. However, he conservatively played the par 5 16th and his 3rd shot was close enough to give birdie a run - which he did and he made. He missed an 8 foot birdie putt at 17 and sunk one about equal distance on 18. Birdies at 2 of the final 3 holes got Baxter back to even par for the back 9.
Round 2 Score 32:36 - (-8)

Rolin Bywater - (-5)
Bywater scores a birdie on 10 and he beings to hit the ball well. Unfortunately no birdie chances present themselves. On 16 Bywater has to sink an 8 foot putt with a 10 inch break to save par. Number 17 is a 3 putt bogey from about 35 feet. On 18 the drive is good, but the shot at the pin is pulled left and - into the drink. A drop, chip and 2 putts and Bywater closes round 2 the way he started it - with a double bogey. He closes round 2 5 over par and is sitting at 3 under - dangerously close to the cut line.
Round 2 Score 39:38 - (-3)

AJ Tucker - (-5)
No birdies on the back, but bogey's at 15 and 16 put Tucker at 3 under, and he is forced to bite his nails and wait with Bywater to see if 3 under will be good enough.
Round 2 Scores 35:38 - (-3)

Brian "Putting Butcher" Babson - (-5)
A huge drive at 12 then a nice 5 wood make Babson handy. He elects to putt from about 3 feet short of the green (surprise) - then he makes the follow up 5 footer for birdie. number 13 is also birdied. Number 14 - the 5 iron off the tee, never came close to the green, but Babson managed to get up and down. On 16 Babson reached the par 5 in two, but he 3 putted from 28 feet for par. A good iron on 17 left him only 8 feet for birdie, but the putt was missed. On 18, Babson needed a putt of 12 feet to fall for par, but it didn't even get to the hole. He didn't putt well - if he had, he would have been sitting at 9 or 10 under. He did however, safely make the cut.Round 2 Score 34:35 - (-6)

Sterling Silvers - (-5)
Par on 10 is followed by a hooked drive on 11 into the water leading to a double bogey. Pars the next 3 holes, then the second shot into the green plugs in a the bunker, The blast out of the bunker doesn't reach the green forcing Silvers to chip again. The chip isn't very good due to the deep grass around the lip of the bunker. 3 putts later and Silvers has his second double on the back. The 9 is closed with 3 pars and Silvers shoots a 40 on the back. This drops Silvers to 1 under and really places him in danger of missing the cut. It also helps Bywater and Tucker because that's one player that won't forced them lower on the leaderboard and closer to the cut. Round 2 Score 33:40 - (-1)

Round 2, Back 9 - Bubble Sitters

Kyle Smith - (-3)
Smith's 2 over on the front dropped him back onto the bubble for making the cut, he needs to rebound on the back to get in the money this weekend. A couple of pars is followed by a birdie on 12. 3 more pars and Smith goes into the last 3 holes at a pretty safe 4 under. At 16, arguably the easiest hole on the course, Smith hit a pretty good drive. He elected to go for the green in two, despite the fact he was sitting on a slightly down hill lie. His 4 wood from the fairway doesn't catch the ball cleanly and his second shot ends up in the creek which runs in front of the green. He drops, his a good wedge in for his 4th shot, but he missed the 13 foot par putt and settled for a bogey. A solid par at 17 is followed by a 3 putt bogey at 18, and a finishing score of 3 over 75. He sits at 2 under and now he has to wait and see if that will be good enough to make the cut. on a side note - this really helps Bywater and Tucker. Round 2 Score 38:37 - (-2)

Shane Kormelink - (-3)
Another player that really charged on the front, looking to continue on the back. However Shane could only manage 1 birdie on the last 9 holes, a 4 on the par 5 16th. He also had bookend bogeys at 10 and 18, giving him a 37 on the back as well. Bywater and Tucker are starting to feel much better about their chances right about now. Round 2 Score 33:37 - (-2)

Kyle Kappe III - (-3)
A hard charger on the front starts off the back Par Par, then he gets a solid birdie at 12, followed by a great putt birdie at 13. A missed 11 footer at 14 prevents Kappe from getting 3 straight birds. 16 is birdied as is 18 and Kappe's front side 32 is matched on the back. His 64 allows him to not only comfortably make the cut, but it also gets his name on the leaderboard. Round 2 Score 32:32 - (-7)

Michael Weideman - (-2)
Bogey at number 10 sets his chances back, but he rebounds with a birdie on 14 and another at 16 and the back side is scored 1 under. With Weideman at 3 under his fortunes are now directly tied to Bywater and Tucker, who breathe a sigh of relief - 1 stroke lower and they would have been pushed further back. Round 2 Score 36:35 - (-3)

Bradley Nowell - (-2)
At 2 under Nowell has every chance to make the cut. The way things have gone, it's starting to look like 3 under will make it. However Nowell never gets it going on the back. A drive in the deep rough at 11 leads to bogey and a short drive at 18 does the same. Round 2 Score 35:38 - (EVEN)

Mike Tokunaga - (-2)
Mike starts off the back 9 with a birdie at 10. He gets another at 12, then back to back birds at 15 and 16. No bogeys or even a threat of one on the back and Tokunaga follows Kappe's lead and easily makes the cut - and gets his name on the leaderboard. Round 2 Score 35:32 - (-6)

Its Craptacular - (-1)
The front side collapse has put Craptacular in danager of missing the cut. Last week he played steady but didn't score - this week if he would have played steady on the front, he would all but be assured of playing on the weekend. He tries to get a couple of strokes back, but isn't successful. On 16 his drive is way right, forcing him to layup to keep from hitting the ball in the creek in front of the green. He ends up settling for bogey. Then 18 is also bogeyed and Craptacular shots a 77 on day two. Round 2 Score 39:38 - (+1)

David Gonzalez - (EVEN)
To make the cut David probably needs to shoot at least 2 under on the back. He gets a birdie at 11 when he sinks a 23 foot putt. He gets another at 15 and things are looking good. On 18 however, Gonzalez tries to make a 25 foot birdie putt - feeling 3 under would certainly make the cut. The ball ran by the hole and stopped 7 feet later. He misses the comeback putt, settles for bogey, and most likily misses the cut. Round 2 Score - 37:35 - (-1)

Marshall "Thundering" Herd - (EVEN)
Herd in the same possition as Gonzalez needs to get at least 2 under on the back to have a hope of making the cut. Pars the first 5 holes, before a prefectly possitioned drive on 15 gives him a run a birdie - which he finishes. Herd then gets up and down on 17 to save par. On 18 - needing a birdie to have a shot at the cut line, Herd muscles up on a drive. He pulls the ball left of line and ends up in the rough. He gets the second shot to the green, but the ball caught a flier and didn't sit, forcing a 3 shot chip and a 7 foot put for par. Round 2 Score 37:35 - (-1)

Stan Gunner - (EVEN)
Gunner shot a 32 on the back Thrusday, if he matches that today - he'll certainly be playing for a paycheck. Bogey's number 12, then birdies 15. A bad 4 iron on 17 leads to a second bogey and Gunner finishes the tourney over par. Round 2 Score 36:37 - (+!)

Kevin Wayne - (+1)
Wayne needs to go real low on the back 9 to get to the weekend. He stars off with 2 pars The he takes adavantage of the easy 12th getting a birdie. He gets another at 13 with a laser sighted 2nd shot iron. 14 is another great iron for birdie and then 15 starts with a perfectly placed drive, a good iron and a solid 10 foot putt that drops in the heart. 4 straight birdies is followed by a solid par at 16, an 8 foot putt is made on 17 for par and 18 was played to par with no effort. Wayne ties a group of other golfers at 3 under and appears to have made the cut. Round 2 Score 37:32 - (-3)

Kevin Boroniec - (+2)
Boroniec needs to go low like Wayne but he pars the first 6 holes and is basically out of chances to make a charge at the cut line. However, he does build some comfidence for next week by finishing birdie, birdie, birdie. Round 2 Score 38: 33 - (-1)

Alan Kelmay - (+2)
Kelmay goes birdie birdie to start the back and is sitting on even par. Unfortunately he can't get in a good birdie possition until hole 16, where he lays up with the second shot, knocks down a 7 iron for the 3rd and drops the 15 foot putt. Round 2 Score 37:33 - (-1)

Almighty and everyone for that matter,

To answer your question - because dice are used as the engine behind the game, it's obviously pretty random. Two golfers set up almost identically can have totally different results on the same course. For instance, Mayes and Silvers golfers are about as close as you can get and Mayes is 14 under while Silvers just missed the cut.

However, based on the course being played, diffent strengths/skills will be tested more often. This course of instance requires more Driving Lenth checks and less Driving Accuracy checks than most. It has more Sand checks because of the number of bunkers (and is a big reason why so may golfers shot in the mid 70s). However, that said - it doesn't mean if you have a low Driving Length number you can't be successful. You could actually go the entire tourney and never check against that skill, or you could check that skill and roll that dispite the fact it's not your strength you still hit an adequate drive.

The attributes selected come into play the same regardless of course, but some attributes won't kick in until the weekend. Some however do, for instance Babson is a inconsistent player - during the 3rd round (I think it was the 3rd) at Pebble he rolled to have a terrible day, which is why is score was so high, but he had a roll for a good day yesterday which helped him play to 3 under. Numerous times the scramble ability and CM ability have come into play. I try to give you a hint as to when in my write ups, but this time out I was in a bit of a hurry so quite a few were left out.

To give you a little more specific idea of the game. Typically a roll of 7, 9, or 11 will cause a skill check. The skill being checked will depend on the hole and the toughness on the hole will indicate if it is a chance for birdie or an attempt to save par. Most of the hole details I give out are on holes that required a check.

Then finally there are the adjustments based on style of play, and the course highlights. On the adjustments there is 1 roll that is capable of dropping your base score significantly. That is a HUGE wildcard in the game, and it can overcome other bad rolls with one pass. I've hit that wildcard number 5 times in 6 rounds so far. There is of course a roll that causes the exact opposite to occure, and I've hit that a few times as well. On weekends the wildcard roll may be modified depending on the course. Like at Pebble where the roll would only lower your score half of what it lowered it on the first and second rounds. It is also possible depending on the couse to have 2 bad wildcard rolls possible for weekend rounds.

I guess I'm saying there are a lot of veribles, but that certain golfers will have better probabilities at specific courses.

Board yet?

I jest, a little. I did consciously set up Braxton to have a shot at Augusta, St. Andrews, Southern Hills, and Pinehurst (although if the rough makes erratic driving an issue, probably not).

Hopefully, Braxton's got a streak of that Ballesteros/Olazabal tendency to shine in the big tournaments.

Group 1 - Holes 1-3

Shane Kormelink - (-2);
A tough 13 footer was needed at the 3rd hole to save par. Otherwise the first 3 holes were played without much fanfair. (-2)

Kyle Smith - (-2)
Smith got an easy par at 1, but a poor first putt on number 2 forced him to sink a left to right breaking 8 footer for par. Then a good iron into the 3rd green gave him a shot at birdie, but the 11 footer was missed. (-2)

Group 1 - Holes 4 - 6

Shane Kormelink - (-2);
A huge 300+ yard drive at 6 set up a reasonable second shot into the par 5 green. 2 putts later and Kormelink had his first birdie of the day.(-3)

Kyle Smith - (-2)
Smith also parred 4 and 5 while getting a birdie at 6. Only Smith's bird at the par 5 was set up by a short wedge 3rd shot to within 10 feet. (-3)

Group 2 - Holes 1 - 3

Kevin Wayne - (-3);
Wayne's drive at 1 doesn't turn over like he wanted it too...leaving it right and ending up in the fairway bunker. The second shot is poor out of the sand and Wayne starts round 3 with a bogey. He gets the stroke right back on 2 with a 17 foot putt. (-3)

Michael Weideman - (-3)
3 pars. (-3)

Group 1 - Holes 7 - 9

Shane Kormelink - (-3);
Kormelink's solid ball striking continues as he pars 7, birdies 8 and pars 9 to finish the front 9 - 2 under par. (-4)

Kyle Smith - (-3)
Smith contined to get pars as he closes out the frontside 1 under par 35. (-3)

Group 2 - Holes 4 - 6

Kevin Wayne - (-3);
3 pars. (-3)

Michael Weideman - (-3)
Birdies the par 4 - 5th. A good drive, perfectly placed layup, knockdown 7 iron and a 12 foot putt. (-4)

Group3 - Holes 1 - 3

AJ Tucker - (-3);
3 uneventful pars. (-3)

Mike Tokunaga - (-6)
Birdie at number 2 get Tokunaga started off, as he hopes to approach his 67 from round 2. (-7)

Rolin Bywater - (-3)
Like the 2nd round - hole number 1 proves to be a nemisis for Bywater. The drive in the fairway bunker, 2nd shot to a greenside bunker, flopped out but stays 30+ feet way. 3 putts and another double to start the round. (-1)

Group 1 - Holes 10 - 12

Shane Kormelink - (-4);
3 solid pars. (-4)

Kyle Smith - (-3)
Solid pars at 10 and 12, a cluch 15 foot putt on 11 saves par. (-3)

Group 2 - Holes 7 - 9

Kevin Wayne - (-3);
3 more pars. Approach shots are not close enough to pins to get a reasonable run at birdie. Front side score was a 36.(-3)

Michael Weideman - (-4)
PArs 7, 8 but 9 is birdied thanks to an awesome 6 iron from 180 yards that stopped 8 feet from the hole. Closes the front 2 under par 34. (-5)

Group3 - Holes 4 - 6

AJ Tucker - (-3);
3 uneventful pars. (-3)

Mike Tokunaga - (-7)
A perfectly possitioned drive on 4 followed by a perfectly possitioned second shot, leaves Mike exactly 100 yards. The wedge from the fairway is tight and the tap in is made for birdie.. (-8)

Rolin Bywater - (-1)
A birdie at 6 gets one of the dropped strokes back. (-2)

Group 4 - Holes 1 - 3

Brian Babson- (-6);
Pars the first 3 holes. (-6)

TE Almighty - (-7)
The 21 foot putt at the 3rd hole drops for a birdie. (-8)

Kyle Kappe III - (-7)
The 2nd shot on the 1st hole finds the greenside bunker - a beautifully executed blast possitioned the ball 6 feet from the hole. The putt was made and Kappe had an up and down from a greenside bunker (will wonders never cease :D ). Number 3 is played very similar to Almight but the putt for Kappe was only 16 feet..(-8)

Group 1 - Holes13 - 15

Shane Kormelink - (-4);
Par 13, an average iron shot into the par 3 - 14th, leaves Shane a 20 foot putt for birdie, which he makes. Anothe par at 15. (-5)

Kyle Smith - (-3)
3 more pars - to threat for bogey, but no shots at birdie either. (-3)

Group 2 - Holes 10 - 12

Kevin Wayne - (-3);
Par - 10 , a great iron shot at 11 gives him his first birdie since the 2nd hole. (-4)

Michael Weideman - (-5)
A poor drive on 11 proves costly for Michael. He is unable to get to the green with the second shot and can't get up and down. The first bogey on the round is followed by a birdie at 12, again the perfect layup followed by an excellent shot iron and a solid putt.. (-5)

Group3 - Holes 7 - 9

AJ Tucker - (-3);
Biride at 7 is recorded after a slippery 8 foot downhill putt drops. The next hole is doubled when the approach shot hits the edge of the green then backs off the green and doesn't stop till it's wet. Frontside score of 37. (-2)

Mike Tokunaga - (-8)
Pars out to get a 34 on the front, and Mike's hot play continues from round 2. (-8)

Rolin Bywater - (-2)
Birdies number 7 with another very good putt - this one from about 12 feet. But Bywater can't maintain any momentum as he drops the stroke on the 9th hole. Frontside was played to 1 over par. (-2)

Group 4 - Holes 4 - 6

Brian Babson- (-6);
His length, which is usually a huge asset on the long par 5s hurt him on number 4. The ball off the tee went a long way, but it was left of line and it went a long way into the trees. Babson didn't really have a second shot, was forced to play back to the fairway. Then the 3rd shot didn't quite get to the green. A poor chip and 2 putts later Babson bogeys a hole that should be birdieable. He also only manages a par at the par 5 - 6th hole, and actually needed a nifty up and down to get par..(-5)

TE Almighty - (-8)
To contrast Babson, Almight his a perfect drive on 4. Not nearly as far as Babson, but dead middle of the fairway. His second shot ran up between the bunkers and stopped on the front edge of the green. The 30 foot putt up hill was made for an eagle. The 5th was parred, and the par 5 - 6th was birdied. This time a long 1st drive - out in the Babson range followed by a nice second shot set up the birdie.. (-11)

Kyle Kappe III - (-8)
3 pars.(-8)

Group 5 - Holes 1 - 3

Jimmy Fuijita- (-7);
3 putts on number 1 lead to a bogey and 3 putts again on 2 lead to consecutive bogeys. Par at 3..(-5)

Duncan Baxter - (-8)
Baxter gets up and down from a greenside bunker at 1to save par. He sinks a 14 footer at 3 for birdie.(-9)

Colton Mayes - (-14)
The leader with a huge cushion to play with starts off with 3 solid pars. At number 1 he did need to make a 10 foot putt for par. (-14)

Group 1 - Holes 16 - 18

Shane Kormelink - (-5);
After failing to reach the par 5 - 16th in two it appeared Kormelink had left himself a difficult chip and would be lucky to make par. However a great putt from 24 feet dropped and Kormelink drops another stroke. A par at 17 is followed by another great drive at 18, a nice approache and a putt later and Shane closed the 3rd round with a backside score of 33 and an impressive total round score of 67. (-7)

Kyle Smith - (-3)
Smith, who had managed just one birdie on the day at number 6, gets another birdie at 16, then hits a nice iron to about 15 feet on 17 and makes the putt for a second bird on the back. Smith shoots 34 on the back nine and 69 for the round. (-5)

Group 2 - Holes 13 - 15

Kevin Wayne - (-4);
The good ball striking for Wayne again fails to pay off on 13 as a par is recorded. However. finally the approch shots give Wayne a chance to make a run at birdie on 14 and 15 and he converts both. (-6)

Michael Weideman - (-5)
Matches Wayne by getting 2 birds on the 3 holes. Michael's birds come at 13 and 15. (-7)

Group3 - Holes 10 - 12

AJ Tucker - (-2);
Par Par .On 12 - the 3rd shot iron from the fairway drops down the chute and hits only inches from the pin. By the time the ball stops it's 7 feet. The putt is made and tucker has a birdie.. (-3)

Mike Tokunaga - (-8)
A blemish appears on Tokunaga's scorecard. Bogey at 10 is followed by 2 pars. (-7)

Rolin Bywater - (-2)
Bywater begins to heat up on the back - angry after dropping the stroke at 9, he birdies 10 and 12 to get underpar for the round. (-4)

Group 4 - Holes 7 - 9

Brian Babson- (-5);
Babson begins to show his inconsistent nature and the slip in the 3rd round at Pebble begins to look like it might repeat itself. At 7 the tee ball finds the right side trap - bogey. At 8 Babson again finds a greenside bunker and his 6 foot bogey putt lips the cup before dropping or a double would have been scored. A par at 9 and Babson's hopes to challenge Mayes appear gone. A frontside score of 39.(-3)

TE Almighty - (-11)
Pars out on the front and records a 32. (-11)

Kyle Kappe III - (-8)
Pars 7 and 8. 3 putts on 9 from 33 feet leaves Kappe with a bogey and a frontside score of 36.(-7)

Group 5 - Holes 4 - 6

Jimmy Fuijita- (-5);
Smartly played birdie at number 4 is followed by 2 pars. (-6)

Duncan Baxter - (-9)
Baxter, who doesn't have the length to reach many par 5s in two, does a great job of possitioning himself to make a run with the putter. Again on 4...the 3rd shot to the green is around a dozen feet and the putt dropped. At 6, again a par 5 played to the green in regulation and the putt is made.(-11)

Colton Mayes - (-14)
Mayes follows Baxter around on both par 5s, and his results are identical. He also manages to get up and down from a trap on 5 to save par. (-16)

Group 2 - Holes 16 - 18

Kevin Wayne - (-6);
Wayne gets his 3rd straight birdie on number 16 then pars out to shoot a 32 on the back and a 68 for the round (-7)

Michael Weideman - (-7)
Weideman has chances at birdie on 16, but he fails to convert the 14 foot putt. A poor putt again at 17 force him to accept another par and a bad drive on 18 keeps him from being aggressive. It appears that fatigue really grabbed Michael, and on this extremely long course it isn't surprising. Weideman does however post a 34 on the back 9 and a 68 for the day. (-7)

Group3 - Holes 13 - 15

AJ Tucker - (-3);
Par 3 putt bogey and par.(-2)

Mike Tokunaga - (-7)
Birdies number 13 with a 18 foot putt for birdie. then a bogey at 15 drops him back to 7 under. (-7)

Rolin Bywater - (-4)
Once again Bywater can't build on his good play. Pars at 13 and 14 are followed by a bogey at 15. (-3)

Group 4 - Holes 10 - 12

Brian Babson- (-3);
Starts off the back with a par at 10, but then a nicely struck drive and approach iron appears to wake up the former boxer, as the 8 foot putt for birdie is made. The first par 5 on the back - a 580 yard hole is amazingly reached in two. A 330+ yard drive is followed by a 250 yard 1 iron. 2 putts from 30 feet gives Babson consecutive birds..(-5)

TE Almighty - (-11)
3 pars, only shot at birdie was on 12, but the double breaking 18 footer slid by the hole. (-11)

Kyle Kappe III - (-7)
A super 14 foot putt is made on 10 for birdie and a 3rd shot iron at 12 is cozeyed but only 5 feet from the hole leading to another birdie.(-9)

Group 5 - Holes 7 - 9

Jimmy Fuijita- (-6);
Pars 7 but poor drives at 8 and 9 both eventually lead to bogeys. Jimmy's front 9 is a 39.(-4)

Duncan Baxter - (-11)
Baxter hits the ball in the bunker at 8, but this time he can't make the sand save and he take a bogey. The front 9 is a 34.(-10)

Colton Mayes - (-16)

Group3 - Holes 16 - 18

AJ Tucker - (-2);
A really short drive on 16 prevents Tucker from going for the green in two. Then the layup is left a little far back and Tucker has to settle for par. The last 2 holes are parred out and he shoots par on the back. Finishing with a 1 over 73. (-2)

Mike Tokunaga - (-7)
Tokunaga's hot play on the front has been followed by inconsistent play on the back. Number 16, an easy par 5 is bogeyed when the 3 shot iron is hit well long and Mike doesn't get up and down. Number 17 id double bogeyed because the iron off the tee found the bunker and he didn't execute well out of it, and 18 is birdied thanks to solid play on all 3 shots.Tokunaga finishes with a disappointing 39 on the back and a 1 over 73 for the round. (-5)

Rolin Bywater - (-3)
Pars 16 then a poor iron off the tee at 17 leads to bogey. Par at 18 closes the back 9 at even par. Round 3 is a 73..(-2)

3 putts from 18 feet force Babson to settle for a par on the par 5 - 16th Then 3 more putts from about the same distance give Babson a bogey at the 17th. He manages to par 18 and finishes the back 9 with a 34 and the round with a 73.(-5)

TE Almighty - (-11)
Follows the bogey at 15 up with a birdie on 16. The last 2 holes are played to par and the back 9 is recorded as a 35 and the round was a 67 (-12)

Kyle Kappe III - (-9)
Birdies 16 by playing smart, laying up and then hitting a nice 3rd shot to within charging range. The putt drops and Kappe get to double figures under par. On 18 Kappe's drive is right and in the rough. In addition, his approach to the green is slightly blocked by a tree limb. Kappe decided to slice the ball around the tree and onto the green, The ball is well struck, but it caught a flyer and was hot heading into the green. The ball hit...took a big bounce and ran into the water. Kappe settles for a double on the last hole and a 35 on the back. 3rd round is score to a 71.(-8)

Rolin Bywater - (-2)
Bywater fires at the pin with the second shot on number 5. The ball finds the trap on the front right, leaving him only 8 feet between the edge of the green and the hole, with the green running away from him. An impossible chip to get close for a good bunker player - and Bywater is horrible out of the sand. To be honest he was lucky to only make bogey. (-1)

AJ Tucker - (-2)
Tuckers 2nd shot ended up only 3 feet left of Bywaters. Tucker, who is one of the better bunker players on tour (but still isn't particularly good), managed to get out better than Bywater, but he couldn't make the 23 foot putt for par. (-1)

Group 2 - Holes 1 - 3

Mike Tokunaga -(-5)

Brian "Putting Butcher" Babson - (-5)
Maybe there is some truth to the nerve damage rumors referred to in the FOFC Boxing Gym press conference held earlier this morning. Babson badly miss reads a putt on 1, which leads to bogey. Group 1 - Holes7 -9

Rolin Bywater - (-1)
Rolin hits a good 5 iron off the tee on the 7th hole, but he missed the 11 foot birdie putt. He also hits his drive on 9 on the hozzle and the ball goes no where. The short drive sets him up for a bogey. The frontside is played to 2 over 38.(EVEN)

AJ Tucker - (-1)
Tucker's iron shot on 7 is also very good, but like his playing partner he can't convert the putt. He does make a tough 19 footer on 9 to save par. Front 9 score: 37.(-1)

Group 2 - Holes 4 - 6

Mike Tokunaga -(-3)
Par, Par, and a huge drive on 6 sets up an easy birdie.(-4)

Brian "Putting Butcher" Babson - (-2)
A perfect drive on 4 makes it so he can reach the par 5 in two, then he's able to make the 2 putt birdie. Number 5 is bogeyed but this time it's not the putters fault, his sand wedge was the culprit.(-2)

Group 3 - Holes 1 - 3

Jimmy Fuijita -(-5)
Second shot ends up in the shortside bunker and he can't get up and down - bogey. Par at 2 is followed by Jimmy going for too much on his drive and hooking the ball into the water on the left. The drop area - due to where the ball last crossed land, gave Fuijita no shot at going for the green, in fact, trees prevented him from being able to go far down the fairway. The 4th shot missed the green, 5th shot chip came up well short and 2 putts later Jimmy records a 7 - triple bogey. In a span of the first 3 holes he has dropped 4 strokes - OUCH.(-1)

Kyle Smith - (-5)
Pars number 1, but ends up in a greenside bunker on 2 and - you guessed it - he got a bogey. Pars 3..(-4)

Michael Weideman -(-7)
In the fairway bunker off the tee at 1. Misses the green with the second shot and doesn't get up and down - bogey.(-6)

Group 1 - Holes10 - 12

Rolin Bywater - (EVEN)
Rolin hits a perfect drive on 10 which sets up birdie. Then an unfortunate bogey at 11 sets him back. However, he rebounds on 12 with a solidly played birdie to get back under par.(-1)

AJ Tucker - (-1)
3 uneventful pars. (-1)

Group 2 - Holes 7 - 9

Mike Tokunaga -(-4)
Tokunaga leaves a birdie putt from 30 feet just over 5 feet short, then he quickly hits the second putt and misses the hole completely. Settles for a front 9 score of 38 (-3)

Brian "Putting Butcher" Babson - (-2)
Babson plays the last 3 holes on the front without a chance to go under or over par (well with his putting he could always go over par, but he didn't have any scary moments with the putter on the last few holes). Front 9 score of 39.(-2)

Group 3 - Holes 4 - 6

Jimmy Fuijita -(-1)
Nearly reaches the par 5 - 4th in two, but does get up and down for birdie. At the par 5 6th, the drive is only 250, but because it's a par 5, he lays up with the second shot to allow a full wedge 3rd. Which is executed beautifully and the 7 foot birdie putt is made.(-3)

Kyle Smith - (-4)
Smith reaches the 4th hole in two (barely), he has over 40 feet on the first putt, but the lag ends up only 3 feet and that is made for birdie..(-5)

Michael Weideman -(-6)
Plays smart on 4 and ends up with a birdie. (-7)

Group 4 - holes 1 - 3

Shane Kormelink - (-7)
Tee ball on 1 finds the fairway bunkers to the right - ends up with a bogey. The stroke is picked back up at 2 with a 18 foot putt that was right in the heart. The second shot at 4 misses the green to the left. It isn't in the trap, but is in deep grass. He can't get up and down and bogeys for the second time in 3 holes.(-6)

Kevin Wayne - (-7)
Wayne plays 3 great shots on number 1 into a birdie. On 2 his 5 iron off the tee stops only 4 and half feet from the hole and the short putt for bird is made. Number 3 is parred without much difficulty.(-9)

Kyle Kappe III -(-8)
Missed the fairway on one from the tee, but was still in the long grass around the bunker. 2nd shot didn't hit the green and he is unable to save par. A 20 foot putt was needed on 2 to save par - and he got it. On 3 - the first shot is hooked left, he doesn't end up in the water, but he puts himself in a tough position behind a tree. He attempts to hook the ball around the tree and reach the green, but actually the hook is too quick and the ball finds the water. Unfortunately this ends up being yet another triple bogey.(-5)

Travis,

No way currently to improve on your stats, but if you guys want to propose ways to do that...I'll consider it for next season. I'll also try to dream up a way to have your stats more fluid for next season...improving or declining based on what you practice.

JAG

Fluid stats...that's a pretty cool idea Breeze. It would probably add a good deal of work to what's already quite a lot though, so you might want to think that one through.

Man, I need some consistency to my game! Up and down, up and down...I feel like I am in a charge-by-the-hour motel!

Just musing, but could do a once a month training package that would improve one attribute while declining another one. Could do a dice roll for each where (say a 6 sided dice) 1 and 2 could result in no gain (or loss), 3 and 4 a minimal gain (or loss) with 5 and 6 being a big gain (and loss) rolling once for the gain and again for the loss.

Again, this is just off the top of my head, feel free to pick apart and add to it.

Group 1 - Holes13 - 15

Rolin Bywater - (-1)
3 pars.(-1)

AJ Tucker - (-1)
Makes a 17 foot putt on 13 for birdie - other 2 are pars. (-2)

Group 2 - Holes 10 -12

Mike Tokunaga -(-3)
Nothing of interest as he pars all 3.(-3)

Brian "Putting Butcher" Babson - (-2)
Par, Par and on the par 5 12th hole, Babson misses the green in two. Chips up, but leaves himself 25 feet for birdie. The birdie putt is hit overly aggressively and the ball doesn't stop rolling until it's almost 10 feet way. Babson's comeback putt is - made - and the the crowd goes wild.(-2)

Group 3 - Holes 7 - 9

Jimmy Fuijita -(-3)
Par, just misses a 23 footer on 8 for birdie, then a short drive forces Fuijita to use a long iron for his approach at 9, which doesn't hold the green. The chip is executed pretty well dispite a bad lie, but he doen't make the 16 foot putt for par. Front 9 score of 39 - 3 over par.- the triple is really hard to overcome.(-2)

Kyle Smith - (-5)
Smith makes a 14 foot putt for par on 8 then he hits a drive on 9 as bad as Fuijita did, and the results were the same - bogey. Front 9 score 37.(-4)

Michael Weideman -(-7)
Par on 7. On 8 he hits a great drive, which leaves him only 165 yards. He elects to hit a hard 8 and go at the flag which is tucked in the front corner close to the lake. The ball is pulled just slightly, but it's enough - because of the pin placement the pull, which would have landed only 10 feet from the pin if it was in the middle of the green - ends up in the water. The drop location leaves a tough 4th shot, because a bunker lies between Michael and the hole with only about 12 feet of green short of the pin. Michael, elects to stay aggressive and attempt to hit a high flop shot, the ball hits the lip of the bunker and falls back in. I'll spare you the details, but sum it up by saying this 3-some just got it's second triple on the front 9. The 9th is parred and the front 9 is scored a 39. (-4)

Group 4 - Holes 4 - 6

Shane Kormelink - (-6)
2 solid pars followed by an even better birdie on 6. (-7)

Kevin Wayne - (-9)
On 4 - a good drive, good second shot layup, good 3rd shot onto the green, and the 13 footer was made for birdie. 2nd shot at 5 is only 5 feet and the putt is made for 2nd straight birdie. Number 6 could have been birdied if the 11 foot putt had fallen. That makes 4 birdies in 6 holes - Wayne is at the very least making a bid for a nice paycheck. Somehow I don't think Mayes is sweating this charge much(-11)

Kyle Kappe III -(-5)
A good drive and nice layup on 4 are wasted when the 3rd shot is poor and finishes almost 30 feet from the hole. Par at 5 and 6. (-5)

Group 5 - Holes 1 - 3

Duncan Baxter - (-11)
2 solid pars are followed by a typical Baxter birdie - drive in the fairway, iron to the middle of the green and sinking around a 20 foot putt.. (-12)

TE Almighty - (-12)
It's early in the season, but the only player to be in the last group for both tournaments is TE. However his good play was put on hold on the first hole. He scraped the ball around, didn't get up and down from the fringe and reported a bogey. The next 2 holes were parred.(-11)

Colton Mayes - (-20)
Mayes is normally a closer, but his big lead may have caused his normally iron willed focus to be a little off. He starts the first hole off by driving the ball in the fairway bunkers to the right - then going beach to beach as his second shot is in a greenside bunker. He eventually bogeys the hole. The second green is missed when his 4 iron is left right. He doesn't get up and down and settles for his second bogey. Mayes is a streaky player, as should have been obvious on Thursday when he made 6 straight birdies, however streaks go both ways and this could be a sign that he's headed in the wrong direction. (-18)

Group 1 - Holes16 - 18

Rolin Bywater - (-1)
Par, Par, and a perfectly played birdie on 18, closes the back 9 in 34 and the round at even par 72.(-2)

AJ Tucker - (-2)
Birdie at 16 when he played to the par 5 green in regulation and sank the 13 foot putt. He also made a 12+ foot putt at 17 to save par. A bad drive in the rough on 18 was followed by a second shot that didn't reach the green, and the chance at up and down wasn't executed. (-2)

Group 2 - Holes 13 - 15

Mike Tokunaga -(-3)
Sinks a 14 foot birdie putt on 13, but misses an 8 foot par putt on 14.(-3)

Brian "Putting Butcher" Babson - (-2)
The hot putting for Babson was short lived (maybe it was just luck). Babson follows up the dramatic putt on 12 by 3 putting from inside 20 feet on 13. (-1)

Group 3 - Holes 10 - 12

Jimmy Fuijita -(-2)
Made a downhill 8 footer for birdie on 10, and it's a good thing, had he missed he would have faced a longer putt coming back. Missed a putt for birdie on 11 from about 12 feet and missed another birdie putt on 12 from around 15 feet..(-3)

Kyle Smith - (-4)
Birdies number 11 when his second shot 8 iron spins back to 3 feet. Number 12 is bogeyed when a short drive is followed by 2 more poor shots and then a chip and a 2 putt.(-4)

Michael Weideman -(-4)
Like Smith Weideman hit a great 2nd shot on 11 that sets up an easy 6 foot birdie putt.. (-5)

Group 4 - Holes 7 - 9

Shane Kormelink - (-7)
Pars 7 but the drive at 8 is in the rough and he can't manage to scratch out a par. Number 9 is parred. Front 9 score 37. (-6)

Kevin Wayne - (-11)
Wayne pars 7. On 8 his drive misses the fairway in the deep rough on the left. He takes a big hack at the ball trying to generate the club head speed needed to hit the ball out of the grass. During the swing the long grass grabs the club and turns it, twisting Waynes wrist in the process. He attempts to continue playing but the next swing is quite painful. He finishes out the hole with a double bogey. With the pain in his wrist and the knowledge that the Masters is coming up, Wayne decides to withdraw rather than risk further injury that could hinder his play throughout the year.(WD)

Kyle Kappe III -(-5)
Missed a makeable 11 foot birdie putt on 7, then makes a 17 foot par putt on 8, then a great iron on 9 sets up a birdie. Front 9 score 38 (-6)

Group 5 - Holes 4 - 6

Duncan Baxter - (-12)
Just like Saturday's round - Baxter plays the par 5 4th hole to the green in regulation, hitting a 9 iron for the 3rd shot to within 10 feet, then he makes the putt for birdie. A short drive, event for Baxter's standard on 6 prevents him from getting into attack mode. His 3rd shot approach to the green is nearly 30 feet away - so in his conservative nature he lags up nicely and makes the short par putt. (-13)

TE Almighty - (-11)
Almighty was disappointed when his drive at 4 missed the fairway and in affect took away any shot of going for the green in two. He tried to tuck his 3rd shot approach up to the pin, but the ball spun back a good 23 feet before it came to rest. He did hit a drive right down the middle on 5, and then played a good approach and made the 10 foot birdie putt. On the par 5 6th hole Almighty played more conservative off the tee. Figuring he wasn't going to cover 560 yards in two shots, he layed up to allow himself a full wedge, which he executed beautifully and he only had to sink a 4 footer for bird..(-13)

Colton Mayes - (-18)
A disappointing par on 4, a scrambled par on 5, then a huge drive down the middle on 6. He elects not to go for the green in 2, but does hit one up to about 20 yards short of the green. A nice chip and a putt later and Mayes gets one of his strokes back. (-19)

Group 2 - Holes 16 - 18

Mike Tokunaga -(-3)
Pars at 16 and 17 are followed by a bogey at 18 - set up by missing the green with his 5 iron from 180+ yards. Back 9 score of 37 - round score of 75, and finishing at -2 puts him into a tie with Bywater and Tucker and costs him a good amount of money.(-2)

Brian "Putting Butcher" Babson - (-1)
Once again Babson's length is a saving grace - he hits his drive at 16 - 346 yards in the middle of the fairway. Reaches the par 5 in two with a 7 iron. The shot stops 14 feet from the pin, but the eagle putt is of course missed, but this time he left himself only inches for a tap in birdie. He pars 17 and hits a good drive at 18, hoping to get to 3 under and ahead of Bywater and Tucker, but his second shot missed the green and he had to settle for a par. Back 9 score of 36: Round score of 75.(-2)

Group 3 - Holes 13 - 15

Jimmy Fuijita -(-3)
Made a 12 footer to save par after a poor chip on 15.(-3)

Kyle Smith - (-4)
A perfect drive at 15 allows him to go at the flag. The iron shot is only 5 feet away and the putt is made for birdie. .(-5)

Michael Weideman -(-5)

Group 4 - Holes 10 - 12

Shane Kormelink - (-6)

Kyle Kappe III -(-6)
3 pars - nothing to write about.(-6)

Group 5 - Holes 7 - 9

Duncan Baxter - (-13)
Baxter's 5 iron off the tee at 7 stops 14 feet from the hole - but the putt is made for birdie. On 8 it's fairway drive, middle of the green, 18 foot putt dropped for birdie. On 9 Baxter hits a bad drive and actually misses this huge fairway. His second shot isn't on the green and he doesn't get up and down, so he gives a stroke back. He finishes the front 9 with a 3 under 33. (-14)

TE Almighty - (-13)
Almighty's iron off the tee at 7 is good, he ends up about 14 feet away, but on the opposite side of the pin from Baxter. He putts after Baxter to the same results. The last 2 holes on the front are pars and he closes the front with a 2 under 34. Looks like at worse we'll have a nice run for second place.(-14)

Colton Mayes - (-19)
Mayes pars botn 7 and 8, but on 9 he hits a perfect drive then a good approach then he made the 9 foot birdie putt. The bird on 18 gets him back to even par on the front 9 and it seems to have ended any risk of a cold streak taking hold. (-20)

Kyle Smith - (-5)
Gets second straight birdie by hitting a huge drive at 16 and reaching the green in two. No real eagle chance, but lagged up nicely for birdie. Pars out for there to shoot a 34 on the back and a 71 for the round.(-6)

Michael Weideman -(-5)
Par at 16 followed by a 3 putt bogey on 17. Par at 18 and Michael shoots 36 on teh back and 75 for the round.(-4)

A 15 foot birdie putt at 13 drops. Pars 14 and 15.(-7)

Group 5 - Holes 10 - 12

Duncan Baxter - (-14)
A good rebound from the bogey at 9. He birdies 10 with another 10 or so foot putt, then an iron approach shot on 11 stops 2 feet from the hole for a second straight birdie, and on 12 he plays the par 5 conservatively, but the 3 shot iron is inside 10 feet and red hot putting Baxter dropped it - 3 birdies to start the back.. (-17)

TE Almighty - (-14)
Only manages a par on 10, but does birdie 11 by hitting 3 good shots. 12 is parred when he misses a 20 foot birdie putt.(-15)

Colton Mayes - (-20)

Group 5 - Holes 16 - 18

Duncan Baxter - (-17)
Baxter 16th hole started with a bad drive, and a poor 3rd shot to the green from about 140 yards ended up in the fringe. He was some 40+ feet away, and he elected to putt. It came up well short and the 9 foot second putt missed as well. Baxter drops a stroke, and he's unable to get it back on 17, then he actually had to sink an 11 footer on 18 to save par. The back 9 ws a 34 and the round was played to 67.(-16)

TE Almighty - (-16)
TE birdied number 16 by playing smart. The birdie combined with Baxter's bogey on the same hole put TE in soul possession of 2nd place. Realizing making up 5 strokes in 2 holes was impossible, Almighty decided to force Baxter to birdie to catch him. He pars out and finishes the back with a 33 and matches Baxter's 67 for the round.(-17)

Colton Mayes - (-22)
Mayes playing pretty conservative now hits a great 3rd shot approach on 16, then sinks the 7 foot putt for birdie. He pars out and chalks up his first FOFC Tour victory.
