Franchise Tag

How do you Franchise Tag a player? I don't see it in contract negotiations. I have a QB who is in the last year of his contract with a young stud in the wings. I'd like to franchise tag him before the year is out, then possibly trade him before next years draft. If I lose him to FA, I don't get any compensation, correct?

You franchise him at the beginning of the next season...after his contract has run out. Do in the stage before starting free agency.

You have to wait until the next offseason -- it's in the same phase where you set ticket prices (before FA). You'll have to go to his player card and use the "Designation" button. And you're correct, no compensation if he signs elsewhere in FA.
