Of drafting a 1st round player who's agent is rated at (11) for Stubborn Negotiator (Very Low) and having to try everything imaginable just to get him to sign. The guy's agent is a push over, how come it takes me so long to sign this guy??

My last pick would only accept a specific offer, nothing else??

I really think this is backwards. Seems like subborn negotiators are easier to deal with than a Low rated negotiatior.

He signed, but after 2 weeks into the season, and for the only option I never wanted. I just think that a low rated SN agent should sign at least the higher year, higher money option.

Just my $0.02.

I'm not sure I want to head back in the Front Office Direction. I enjoy TCY tremendously, but I've always enjoyed college football more.

I have just resigned myself to the fact if my picks won't take option 2 than I'll have to sign them to option 4. Of note I guess is I have never had option 4 turned down.

I've never seen option 4 turned down either, I don't think it can be. I have often seen 1st round, and even 2nd round picks, hold out for a long time with very low ranked agents, though.

I always sign my rookies for the best available option every time. The 4th option is less years, and more money of the 2 short options.

I haven't had a player refuse when I offered that option first yet. I never have this problem.

The point is that option 4 always works, but it's not the best option. Generally I want to lock up my first round picks for as many years as possible, and this is very often not possible as they will, even with pushover agents, hold out indefinitely until you offer them option 4.

Right, I wanted this RB for 6 years, not 5. That's the reason I traded up in the draft. I really think the nego. rating means diddly squat, and that's too bad.

Other's experiences might differ, on the "never" aspect of top 20 picks. I quickly became frustrated with the rookie "negotiation" aspect of the game, so I rarely try anymore. The whole "pick from 4 offers" thing actually sucks. This could be more like negotiating with RFAs, where they have demands, you make offers with a little more flexibility.

Has anyone actually tried letting a rookie holdout a few weeks to see if they cave in? My guess is they will. Frankly, my top priority is always getting them signed before camp, so I basically just get my two pre-camp opportunities. I'll usually offer option 1 or 2 in the first stage, then 3 or 4 (all depending on the agent stubornness) right after the late FA period.

cthomer, I have on two occasions had 1st (and 2nd!) round picks hold out for the entire season. Every week I would offer them option 1 or 2, they would simply never accept it. I'd be forced to option 4 them sometime, or in one case I just let the guy go back into the draft, I was in cap hell anyway.

Yeah I let the guy go back to the draft out of spite. I laughed when he was drafted in the high second round again the next year and turned out to be a major bust!

I had a guy turn down the #4 option before. I was stunned.

Normally, I'm so far under the cap, I don't really care if I give them the 4th option, but thats just me.

I have never, ever had a first rounder take option 1 or 2. I'm just resigned to the fact I hope to get them on 3 the first offer, then settle for 4 right before camp.

I've had a couple of 1st rounders take the high $ long year option. Its usually when I work backwards through my draft class, giving the 7th rounder a contract first for the lowest hit, and working my way up doing the same thing. I don't know if thats a factor, but it seems to work every now and then.

I agree with Tasan. Always start with 7 and work up to 1. There is a momentum thingy in the program. Still, I've only gotten the #1 option once and with a 30ish pick.

I would just rather have the player tell me what they want instead of missing precious training time.

At this point in time, FOF4 handled this better than FOF2k4, imo. Just seems like the feature in 2k4 is more for looks right now and not fully implemented yet.

If you look at the "Drafted Player Status" (or whatever it's called) screen you can often get an idea of what your player is looking for by looking at the deals his contemporaries (picked right before or after him) got.

It's not perfect, but it's something at least.
