Zook did a fantastic job this year. He had a young team, with the cupboard left a bit bare by the Visor.
He was sitting at 3-3 with games at LSU and Arkansas and the Cocktail Party against Georgia immediately in front of him, and FSU in the last game as well. They had just come off a loss to Ole Miss. It would have been very easy for that team to finish 6-6 or even 5-7. Instead, they won five in a row and finished tied for the division title.
Sure, they lost to FSU and didn't show up in the first half of the bowl game, but all in all, you have to say Zook was pretty good this season. Add to that his two recruiting classes, and you can easily argue for an extension. I'll be surprised if UF doesn't start the season in the top five next year.
Keep Zook. I like Florida losing 5 games a year. I'd rather they lose 10, but this is a start. :)

This was done for the same reason Bowden signed a contract through 2008 - to help with recruiting. With Spurrier out of a job, the competition would have had a field day with recruits, telling them that Zook wouldn't be around for their 4 years, etc. The school will eat the contract if they don't want him in a year or two.

I'd like to see Spurrier back at Florida, but that sadly won't happen.
