Mighty Ducks Goalie, is he still any good?

Well, thats pretty much it, is he? I dont follow hockey at all. I live in NY, Rangers are my favorite team. I'll probably watch most of the Finals, but thats about it. I remember from last year, the Ducks goalie was really good. Is he still up there, or was he a fluke? Just curious.

He hasn't be consistantly the number one goalie for the Ducks

Once the season ended the guy got married.

He has been inconsistent all season.

He had a bad early season that most around here (in the Anaheim area) attribute to many things (the marriage, the big new contract, the new expectations, etc.). The reality is that no one could be the same goalie he was in the playoffs, not even himself. That was just too phenomenal.

Your question seems to come from someone doesn't know he was a pretty solid regular season goalie for the Ducks for the two seasons previous to his playoff run as well (meaning while the level of the playoff performance was certainly astonishing, the fact he is a good goalie should not be based on that playoff run alone).

This year, his defense hasn't been very good at all. The Ducks' best defender, Keith Carney, missed the first month and has been hampered by injury all season. The two puckmoving D-men, Haveliud and Ozolinsh, have been oddly bad and injured, respectively. And the younger D-men on the Ducks haven't been ready to step up and truly take those minutes when the big guys went down.

Facing a defense like that, the goalie let by some bad goals after being repeatedly peppered by teams, and his confidence waned a little. Our backup goalie is fantastic and a starter-level goalie, too, so his placement in the lineup for stretches have given the Ducks a boost, but kept the other guy on the bench for a bit.

In the past month, the number one guy has returned to closer to his regular season form from last year, including two shutouts in that time, with a brilliant night against the Avalanche just before Christmas. He has really only had one bad game recdently, and was Wednedsay night against the Kings.

BTW, his name is Jean-Sebastien Guigere, or Jiggy for short.

I feel the same way about him now as I did before last year's run.

Giggy is a good goalie, not a great one.

he's capable of some great runs, like most goalies are. IMO, he's not an elite goalie, and probably never will be. Unfortunately, a lot of sports people thought he was after last spring, and that's an unfair amount of pressure.

I thought they were atributing alot of his downfall to the crackdown on equipment and jersey size. From what I have heard his equipment was cut down a considerable amount over the offseason.

Also one thing of note in the backup in Anaheim, Gerber is doing very well with his 92.2 save pecentage.

He is better than that piece of swiss cheese the Blues have for a goalie.
