Time to reacquaint ourselves with our intrepid band of former stud high school quarterbacks.
As you know, Five Great Quarterbacks traces the story of five young men, the top 5 high school quarterbacks as rated by national agencies. Three seasons ago, we witnessed their senior year of high school, and their entry into the recruiting wars. Two years ago, we watched as they spent their first year in college. Last year, we watched as most of our players got their first starting roles. To reacquaint ourselves, here are our five young men:
Joel McDonald
Joel was the #1 Rated QB prospect in the nation last year out of Glynn Academy in Brunswick, GA. An All-State Selection at QB, Joel was recruited heavily before committing to eventual National Champions Florida State.
In 2004, Joel, as the third of only three quarterbacks on the Florida State roster, saw a year of his eligibility wasted to throw 9 passes in garbage time against a directional school.
In 2005, Joel took over as the starter, winning Second Team All-ACC honors, and leading Florida State to a third consecutive ACC Title.
Byron Huntley
Byron was the #2 QB prospect in the nation last year from Green Valley HS in Henderson, NV, where he was an all-state selection. Byron was heavily recruited from across the country, but chose to stay close to home as a UCLA Bruin.
Byron was redshirted for the 2004 season, and now enters this season as a redshirt freshman.
In 2005, Byron beat out a couple of more experienced competitors to win the starting job and paced the Bruins to a third place finish in the Pac 10.
Willie Jennings
Wille was considered the #3 QB prospect in the country last year from Owosso, Michigan. An All-State selection from Owosso HS in Owosso, Michigan, Byron was heavily recruited, narrowly deciding to forego offers from Michigan and Ohio State, among others to become a Clemson Tiger.
Like Byron, Willie redshirted for the 2004 campaign, and is now a redshirt freshman.
In 2005, Willie had a breakout year as a starter, winning First Team All ACC honors, and quickly establishing himself as the team leader.
Norbert Clark
Norbert was considered the #4 QB prosect in the country last year. An All-State selection at QB from Savanna HS in Savanna, OK, Norbert made it clear early on that his heart lay in Oklahoma, and quickly committed to the Sooners.
Norbert also redshirted in 2004.
In 2005, Norbert saw limited duty in a third string role on a Sooner team that was loaded with talent at the QB spot.
Emmanuel Harris
Although he was considered the #5 QB prospect nationally, Emmanuel was a Parade All-American at QB, as well as an All-State Selection from New York. Emmanuel took a while to make his decision before settling on the Michigan Wolverines.
Emmanuel redshirted for the 2004 season.
In 2005, Emmanuel has been the disappointment of our five guys, yet to see game action. Academically, however, he's been a star, garnering a 4.0 GPA over his first two years in college.

2006 NCAA Training Camp
As a good way to start the year, here are the prospects for our five young men as they begin their second campaign of college football.
Willie Jennings, Clemson
Only injury, or ridiculously one-sided games will prevent the ACC's best quarterback from taking every snap this season.
Joel McDonald, Florida State
Joel added a few more pounds, and now stands 6'3", weighing 231 lbs.
Like Willie, Joel is solidly entrenched as the starter for the Seminoles.
Emmanuel Harris, Michigan
Emmanuel put on a few more pounds of muscle in the offseason, and now carries 232 lbs. on his 6'1" frame.
With a veteran QB as starter in Joel McIntyre, Emmanuel will fight for the backup role this year alongside a pair of other similarly talented quarterbacks.
Norbert Clark, Oklahoma
Norbert bulked up from 6'2" 209 lbs. to 6'2" 212 lbs.
With Oklahoma's #1 QB from last season graduated, Norbert will fight for the starting role with last year's #2 QB, Reuben Delgado.
Byron Huntley, UCLA
Byron bulked up to 218 lbs on his 6'2" frame. He is now solidly entrenched as the starter.

Excerpt from Street & Smith's 2006 College Football Annual.
Dark Horses:
Willie Jennings, Clemson
Willie Jennings last year, as a redshirt freshman, has already shown himself to be the best quarterback in the ACC. But he will have to elevate his game to another level to emerge on the national stage, and he will have to do it without the legs of Cornelius Baumgardner, who now plays his football on Sundays.
The question is whether he can lift the rest of his cast well enough to win the 11 or 12 games needed to be a serious Heisman candidate. Only the new season can provide such answers.

Five Great Quarterback Sightings, Week 1
Purdue at Oklahoma (Norbert Clark)
Unfortunately, Norbert lost the starting job to last year's backup, Reuben Delgado. However, he stands a good chance of playing if Reuben falters or is injured, and is solidly entrenched as the #2 QB.
Against Purdue, the Sooners roll to a 24-0 first half lead mainly off of Delgado's throwing and an opportunistic defense. In the second half, however, a pair Delgado passes are picked off, and Purdue cuts the lead to 24-17 on the second play of the fourth quarter. However, the Sooners calmly move the ball the length of the field to halt the Purdue momentum and make it 31-17. Later in the quarter, Oklahoma takes advantage of a Purdue turnover to make it 38-17. Norbert appears late in mop up, makes a couple of handoffs and takes a couple of knees to wrap up the ball game.
He does not attempt a pass in relief duty.

Week 2 Five Great Quarterback Sightings
Clemson (Willie Jennings) at Tennessee
After holding Tennessee to a three out on the game's opening drive, the Tigers struck the first blow, blocking the Vols' punt and recovering on the 29. After a pair of runs and a couple of incompletions, Willie Jennings tossed a three yard touchdown pass to make it 7-0 Clemson. Tennessee struck back quickly, mainly through the air to tie it 7-7. For the rest of the half, both offenses struggled to get anything going, with only Clemson threatening to score (they shanked a 36 yard figgie. It remained 7-7 at the half.
Clemson took the opening possession of the second half, with Willie Jennings tossing a 56 yard pass to his favorite target Poole to set the Tigers up with a first and goal from the three. However, from there, Clemson couldn't punch it in, and wound up settling for a 19 yard field goal to make it 10-7. On the following drive, Tennessee drove deep before an errant Garner pass was picked off, killing the drive. After Clemson went three and out, Tennessee again drove it deep, this time connecting on a 31 yard field goal to tie it at 10 all.
Early in the fourth quarter, after a couple of 3 and outs, Clemson got the ball in great field position on the Tennessee 27. After a trio of running plays and a pair of incompletions, the drive stalled on the Tennessee 12, where Clemson again kicked a figgie to make it 13-10.
In response, Tennessee's QB Garner put together the longest sustained drive of the afternoon, capped off by a 1 yard TD run to make it 17-13 Tennessee. After a couple of 3 and outs, Clemson took over the ball on their own 45 with less than 2 minutes remaining. But on third down, Willie's pass was picked off and returned for a touchdown, killing any chance of a Clemson comeback, 24-13.
Willie had a rough game, completing just 9 of 21 passes for 164 yards with 1 TD pass. He was intercepted once (a 71 yarder returned for a TD) and sacked once.
Central Florida at Florida State (Joel McDonald)
The Seminoles struck quickly, putting together a sustained drive, mainly on the ground, on their opening possession. Joel got into the act with the longest gainer on an option keeper for 13 yards, before FSU's tailback Hawkins punched it in from 11 yards out to make it 7-0. On their next offensive possession, FSU again drove the length of the field, this time settling for a field goal to make it 10-0.
Central Florida struck quickly to make it 10-7 early in the second quarter. On the ensuing kickoff, however, Florida State got back the points with a 92 yard kickoff return for a touchdown to make it 17-7. FSU then capped off the first half scoring with a 57 yard field goal to make it 20-7 at the half.
After a Central Florida field goal made it 20-10 midway through the 4th quarter, FSU capped off the scoring with long runs from Hawkins and a pair of completions from Joel to make it 27-10.
Joel had a solid game offensively. He completed 13 of 18 passes for 164 yards. He threw no touchdown passes, but also did not take a sack or turn the balll over. Most impressively, he ran 8 times for 59 yards, including a 30 yard scamper.
UCLA (Byron Huntley) at Army
After a long Army drive gave the Black Knights a 7-0 lead, Byron Huntley answered with a 31 yard TD strike on the first UCLA drive to tie it at 7-7. After an Army punt, Lewis Castillo cashed in another touchdown on a drive featuring Byron's passing and Lewis' running to make it 14-7 early in the second quarter. After a couple of punts, Byron again went wild, throwing a few strikes on a drive that was again capped off by Lewis Castillo, this time with a 6 yard run to make it 21-7. After an Army pass was intercepted on the ensuiing drive, UCLA punched in another touchdown, again on the strength of a few runs by Lewis Castillo, including a 4 yard TD to make it 28-7. From there, it was simply a matter of UCLA runing wild on Army, 57-28.
Byron had a great game, completing 16 of 23 passes for 272 yards with 3 Touchdowns. He was not intercepted and was sacked only once.
Lewis Castillo upstaged him though, carrying the ball 35 times for 304 yards and catching it 5 times for 93 yards. Lewis accounted for five touchdowns, running for three and catching two.
Connecticut at Oklahoma (Norbert Clark)
Norbert played about half the game in relief of starter Reuben Delgado. He completed 11 of 14 passes for 161 yards with 1 TD. He was not sacked or intercepted. The Huskies were never in the game, losing 65-0.
Air Force at Michigan (Emmanuel Harris)
Emmanuel did not play in Michigan's opener against Air Force, won by the Wolverines 24-14.

Hey. Just wanted to let everybody that follows this thread as closely as I do that am currently doing a similar one. This is in no way trying to steal Wuss' thunder, it's more just something to keep you busy until he updates again :).
My five guys all play different positions (QB, RB, WR, DE, CB) and we are currently in the recruiting process.
Check it out! (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?t=20462)
Keep up the great work WussGawd!

Five Great QB Sightings, Week 3
UCLA (Byron Huntley) at Ohio State
Byron misses the game with a sprained back. He is listed as out 4 weeks. The poor play of his replacement, Mark Forbes, contributed heavily to Ohio State's 3 point win.
Clemson (Willie Jennings) at Kansas State
Although his numbers are not spectacular, Willie throws three touchdown passes in the second half to spark a comeback (Kansas State led 17-7 at the half) as the Tigers win in overtime 34-31.
Willie finishes with a modest of 12 of 27 completions for 213 yards with 3 Touchdowns and 2 Interceptions. He is not sacked and runs 6 times for 59 yards, including a 40 yard gain.
Oklahoma (Norbert Clark) at Tulsa
Norbert finally gets into the game in the fourth quarter, but does little more than take a couple of knees. He does not throw a pass in Oklahoma's 55-3 laugher over the Golden Hurricane.
Notre Dame at Michigan (Emmanuel Harris)
Emmanuel sees his first game action as a Wolverine in the worst possible circumstances, after Notre Dame had ran up the score, and the first two quarterbacks had failed. The results were not pretty. Emmanuel threw three times, all incompletions, late in the fourth, as the Golden Domers pounded Michigan before 100,000+ Michigan faithful, 42-3.

2006 Week 4 Five Great Quarterback Sightings
Alaska-Barrow at UCLA (Byron Huntley)
Byron did not play (he's still recovering from an injury) as teammate Lewis Castillo ran absolutely wild (25 carries, 388 yards, including a 67 TD run on the first play from scrimmage) around, over, and through a porous Alaska-Barrow defense, 45-0.
Florida at Michigan (Emmanuel Harris)
Emmanuel did not play as the Gators rallied from a 21-10 third quarter deficit to win in overtime 38-31 over the reeling Wolverines, losers of two straight in Michigan Stadium.
Air Force at Florida State (Joel McDonald)
Joel played perhaps the most solid game of his career as the Seminoles throttled the punchless Falcons, 38-10. He completed 18 of 23 passes for 235 yards with 3 Touchdowns. He suffered no sacks or interceptions, and helped himself on the ground, carrying the ball 9 times for 50 yards.

2006 Week 5 Five Great Quarterback Sightings
UCLA (Byron Huntley) at Washington State
Byron continues to nurse his injury and sat out the game as his backup, Greg Forbes suffered a nightmare game (16 of 33 with 2 TDs, Sacked 5 Times) and Lewis Castillo was stuffed completely (19 carries for 35 yards) in UCLA's 28-14 loss to the Cougars.
Florida State (Joel McDonald) at North Carolina
Joel had a great game, completing 12 of 16 passes for 154 yards with no picks and no sacks. His only two touchdowns were on the ground as he ran it in twice for scores. He carried the ball 5 times for 30 yards, then watched from the sidelines in the second half as the Seminoles ran away in a laugher, 52-10.
Michigan (Emmanuel Harris) at Iowa
Emmanuel watched from the sidelines as Michigan quickly mounted a 14-0 lead, then hung on for dear life against the previously unbeaten Hawkeyes, 14-10.

2006 Week 6 Quarterback Sightings
UCLA (Byron Huntley) at Stanford
Donning a flak jacket to protect his still tender back, Byron Huntley gamely returned to face the Cardinal. Perhaps the pain enabled him to focus, but whatever the reason, Byron turned in one of his best games ever, completing 20 of 25 passes for 326 yards with a TD (no interceptions, 1 sack) as the Bruins racked up 632 yards of total offense in throttling the Cardinal, 45-20.
Kansas State at Oklahoma (Norbert Clark)
Norbert watched from the sidelines as his beloved Sooners won a wild and woolly affair that had a little bit of everything over Kansas State, 45-37.
Clemson (Willie Jennings) at NC State
Willie tossed two first quarter touchdowns as the Clemson Tigers took a 28-10 halftime lead, then held off a furious fourth quarter rally to upset the Wolfpack, 34-28.
Willie finished with great numbers, completing 16 of 22 passes for 276 yards, with 2 Touchdowns against 1 Interception (no sacks).
Wake Forest at Florida State (Joel McDonald)
In the first half, Florida State struggled to control the Demon Deacons' running attack, and at halftime, it was 21-14, Wake Forest.
In the second half, however, Florida State adjusted, slowed Wake Forest's running game, and Joel McDonald went from ice cold to white hot, with the Seminoles reeling off 49 second half points. Joel finished with 17 of 23 completions for 262 yards and 3 Touchdown passes (no sacks or interceptions). He also helped himself on the ground, carrying the ball 6 times for 46 yards and a rushing touchdown in the 63-35 win.
Michigan (Emmanuel Harris) at Indiana
Emmanuel once again held the clipboard as Michigan beat the lowly Indiana Hoosiers 17-14.

Week 7 Great Quarterback Sightings
California at UCLA (Byron Huntley)
This, undoubtedly, is a game that Byron would rather have forgotten. He started off struggling, then left the game for the duration in the second quarter with what the game log described as a "serious injury". His replacement, Greg Forbes, was miserable. The team wasn't much better. It was 10-0 Cal at the half, and a trade of touchdowns made it 17-7 at the end of the third. Then UCLA absolutely collapsed, coughing up 28 fourth-quarter points to lose 45-15.
Byron was 3 of 7 for 44 yards with no picks or TDs when he left the game. As for the severity of the injury, I'll leave you in suspense for the moment.
Oklahoma (Norbert Clark) at Texas Tech
Norbert did not play as the Sooners waxed the Red Raiders, 34-3.
Florida State (Joel McDonald) at Duke
Joel put in a solid start, getting things done with both his feet and his arm as the Seminoles rolled over the Blue Devils 42-16. Joel ran 10 times for 35 yards, and completed 14 of 20 for 176 yards with 2 Touchdowns. He was not intercepted, but was sacked twice. The telling statistic, Florida State ran 45 times for 233 yards against a porous Duke front seven.
North Carolina at Clemson (Willie Jennings)
Wille completed passes with the coldness of an executioner as the Tigers trashed the Tar Heels 42-3. Willie completed 12 of 16 passes for 196 yards with 3 Touchdowns. He did not thrown an interception or take a sack.
Purdue at Michigan (Emmanuel Harris)
Emmanuel Harris watched as the Wolverines beat the Boilermakers 38-27.

Five Great Quarterback Sightings, Week 8, 2006 Season
For Byron Huntley, the news was as bad as it could possibly. He went under the knife for back surgery, out for 13 weeks (effectively, the rest of the season). Accordingly, we will no longer report on UCLA games this season.
Clemson (Willie Jennings) at Georgia Tech
In a closely fought game dominated by the running attacks of the two teams, Willie Jennings completed 7 of 10 passes for 1 Touchdown and 64 yards. He was sacked three times, but did not turn the ball over. Clemson broke a 14-14 tie in the fourth quarter with a run by their great back Bielby (he had 33 carries for 138 yards) and held on to win, 21-17.
Florida State (Joel McDonald) at NC State
On a cool fall Saturday afternoon, Florida State's visions of a national title fell to Earth. NC State's defense stifled Florida State's running game (they were held to 71 yards on 30 carries, and kept Joel McDonald off balance to build a 21-3 lead after three quarters. A furious fourth quarter rally by Joel fell short, and the Wolfpack held on to win, 21-16.
Joel finished with 13 of 28 passes completed for 194 yards. He threw one touchdown pass, was sacked twice, and suffered a critical interception in the first half to lead to one of NC State's scores.
Wisconsin at Michigan (Emmanuel Harris)
Emmanuel came on for one series to take a couple of knees at the end of the 4th Quarter of a Michigan 28-0 laugher against the Badgers.

2006 Week 9 QB Sightings
Byron Huntley is done for the season. Back surgery will sideline him for 13 weeks, effectively ending his season. Accordingly, we will no longer keep a closer eye on UCLA games this season.
Maryland at Clemson (Willie Jennings)
TB Moe Bielby ran for 138 yards, Willie Jennings completed 16 of 21 for 195 yards and a couple of touchdowns, and Clemson's defense strangled the Terps offense, holding them to 7 First Downs and a total of 133 yards as the Tigers rolled 31-10.
Georgia Tech at Florida State (Joel McDonald)
Georgia Tech outgained the Seminoles and racked up more first downs. But big defensive plays, untimely turnovers, and big plays on special teams enabled the Seminoles to get back into the win column, 31-16.
Joel had a solid if unspectacular start, completing 9 of 13 passes for 92 yards. He ran and threw for touchdowns, and did not throw a pick.
Michigan (Emmanuel Harris) at Northwestern
Emmanuel watched from the bench as Northwestern ralled from a 23-13 third quarter deficit to beat the Wolverines 33-30.
Oklahoma (Norbert Clark) at Kansas
This game was significant for our purposes mostly for the significant playing time Norbert earned in a backup role. He came on late in the second quarter with the score 35-0, and went on to have a good game. Norb completed 10 of 16 for 158 yards, including a 50 yard bomb. He was not intercepted, and suffered only one sack in a great appearance, as the Sooners rolled, 59-7.

Week 10 QB Sightings
Oklahoma (Norbert Clark) at Texas A&M
Norbert Clark watched from the sidelines as the Sooners ran up a 27-10 lead, and then held on to beat the Aggies 34-24.
Clemson (Willie Jennings) at Wake Forest
Willie Jennings threw touchdowns of 41 and 10 yards in leading the Tigers past a listless Wake Forest team, 24-10. He finished with 13 of 19 passes completed for 201 yards with 2 Touchdowns and 2 Interceptions.
Florida State (Joel McDonald) at Florida
Joel threw an 80 yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, and ran for a 42 yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. In between, however, his performance, and his team's was awful. The Gators rolled 37-14, extinguishing Florida State's slim title chances
Joel had an awful game. He completed 6 of 20 passes for 176 yards with 1 Touchdown and 1 Interception before being pulled in the fourth quarter. If you remove the one 80 yard completion for a touchdown, the numbers look even worse.

2006 Week 11 QB Sightings
UCLA (Byron Huntley) at Arizona State
Byron watched from the sidelines, still suffering from his season ending injury as Arizona State rallied from a 21-10 deficit to rout the Bruins 37-21.
Florida State (Joel McDonald) at Clemson (Willie Jennings)
It's happened once a year, a game eagerly awaited by those that have followed these two talented young men since high school. Tigers-Seminoles, Jennings-McDonald.
This year's matchup, unfortunately, turned out to be a dud. Clemson reeled off a 24-0 halftime lead, extended it to 31-0 in the third quarter and never looked back as the Tigers routed Florida State 41-15.
Joel McDonald struggled with poor pass protection and a sputtering offense. He completed only 7 of 23 passes for 85 yards with 1 Touchdown and 1 Interception. He was sacked three times and also ran 9 times for a total of 27 yards.
Willie Jennings on the other hand, had a coldly efficient outing, completing 13 of 20 passes for 174 yards with 2 Touchdowns and 0 Interceptions.
Michigan (Emmanuel Harris) at Michigan State
Emmanuel watched helplessly from the sidelines as the Wolverines won against their cross-state rivals in a dogfight.
Iowa State at Oklahoma (Norbert Clark)
Norbert watched from the sidelines as Sooner starting QB Reuben Delgado went all the way in routing the Cyclones, 35-7.

2006 NCAA Week 12 QB Sightings
Minnesota at Michigan (Emmanuel Harris)
Emmanuel again watched from the sidelines as Todd McIntyre led the Wolverines into a first place tie with the Buckeyes at the top of the Big 10.
Clemson (Willie Jennings) at Virginia
Vincent Bielby ran for 137 yards, and Willie Jennings was coldly efficient (15 of 21 completions, 230 yards, 3 Touchdowns, and 0 Interceptions) as the Tigers dispatched the Cavaliers, and strengthened their perch atop the ACC. Willie also scampered 6 times for 30 yards in the effort.
Maryland at Florida State (Joel McDonald)
In one of the better games of the year, Florida State struck first on the strength of Joel's passing. A 3 yard run by RB Hawkins up the middle made it 7-0 Seminoles. On the Terrapins responded with a long drive and a 24 yard field goal to cut the lead to 7-3.
After a long drive that resulted in nothing for Florida State, Maryland again drove the length of the field, this time punching it in on a 39 yard pass to make it 10-7, Terrapins.
After a Florida State punt and Maryland interception, Florida State took over the ball in Maryland territory. A McDonald run of 13 yards and 20 yard pass led to another Max Hawkins TD run of 7 yards, and Florida State retook the lead, 14-10, which is where the score stood at halftime.
Maryland's opening drive of the third quarter sputtered, and Florida State missed a field goal wide left. Maryland again failed to move the ball on their second drive, and a 47 return of a punt put FSU in business on the Terrapin 25. The Seminoles wasted no time in punching it in, this time on a 5 yard TD strike from Joel McDonald. Unfortunately, FSU's extra point attempt failed, leaving the score at 20-10.
After an exchange of punts, Maryland went on a long drive, culminating in a 36 yard field goal with 9:14 left in the game to cut the lead to 20-13. Unfortunately, on Florida State's next drive, Joel McDonald committed a fatal mistake, throwing an interception, which the Terrapins returned to the Seminole 13 yard line. Maryland scored quickly to tie it 20-20.
With 6-1/2 minutes left, Florida State needed a score. However, on the second play of their drive, a long McDonald pass went terribly wrong, giving Maryland the ball on their own 38 yard line. Maryland went on another drive, which ended in a missed 33 yard field goal with less than a minute left. At the end of regulation time, it remained 20-20.
In overtime, Florida State won the toss and elected to defend. Maryland's first possession stalled almost immediately. However, the Terrapins punched in a 37 yard field goal to make it 23-20.
On their own first possession, Joel McDonald completed a 19 yard pass to put the Seminoles in business on the Terrapin six. A pair of runs set Florida State up in position on 3rd and goal at the 1, giving them a chance to end it right there. A timely run blitz killed the attempt, and FB Ellison was thrown for a yard loss. On a critical 4th and Goal at the 2, FSU elected to go for the 3, and converted, tying the game at 23-23.
On the second possession, Florida State again quickly picked up a first down, setting themselves up with a 1st and 10 on the 14. The drive stalled however, and Florida State attempted a 34 yard field goal, which missed, wide to the right.
The Terrapins, buoyed by the defensive stop, ran the ball on four consecutive plays against a tired, fading Florida State defense, and punched in the ball on a 7 yard touchdown pass to end the game 29-23 in the second overtime.
Joel's numbers were adequate on the day (16 of 24 for 195 ayrds with 1 TD and 2 Interceptions. He ran 5 times for 21 yards), but his two critical fourth quarter interceptions cripped Florida State's chances of winning the game in overtime, and on several key occasions, particularly late, his third-down passing wasa less than stellar.
Baylor at Oklahoma (Norbert Clark)
Norbert watched from the sidelines as the Sooners routed the hapless Baylor Bears, 55-7.

I'm back after long last. Had a laptop near meltdown courtesy of a dead motherboard fan. Happily, I had backed up the TCY universe files, so we are set to go again.
On a sadder note, I lost the FOF2004 universe. While this will affect none of our five intrepid QBs, it means that the NFL data you read in the dynasty is now null and void. I will quick sim through the 2006 season, and we'll start covering the NFL again then. :(

2006 Five Great Quarterback Sightings
Kansas State vs. Florida State (Joel McDonald)
Joel McDonald came into the game with high hopes of putting a mediocre season behind him as the Seminoles faced the equally disappointing Kansas State Wildcats.
The game started slowly, with Florida State missing a field goal, followed by an exchange of punts. Finally, late in the first quarter, Kansas State put together a brilliant combination of runs and passes, capping off the drive with an 8 yard run to take a 7-0 lead.
On the ensuing possession, Florida State fumbled the ball at midfield, where a 27 yard option play put Kansas State in business. The drive finally stalled at the FSU 25, where the Wildcats kicked a 42 yard field goal to make it 10-0.
On the ensuing drive, Florida State quickly stalled again, putting Kansas State in business again on its own 22 yard lawn. From there, Kansas State used a pair of big passes and another 21 yard gainer on an options play to move the ball into the red zone. Two running plays later, Kansas State had made it 17-0.
On the ensuing drive, Florida State drove to the Kansas State 35, but failed to convert a 4th and 2, handing the ball over on downs. Kansas State then put together a sustained drive, which stalled at the FSU 7. A 24 yard field goal made it 20-0, which was where it stood at the half.
In the second half, the Wildcats took the opening kickoff, and promptly marched the ball down the field, cashing in a 28 yard TD run to make it 27-0. An exchange of punts put Florida State deep in there own territory. Joel McDonald promptly struck on a pair of passes of 46 yards and 18 yards, but the drive stalled on Kansas State at the 21. FSU cashed in a 38 yard field goal to cut the deficit to 27-3.
Unfortunately, FSU had no answer for Kansas State's running game. The Wildcats again drove the length of the field, cashing in another touchdown to make it 34-3 in the first minute of the fourth quarter.
Another Florida State drive saw Joel McDonald complete several passes before stalling. Florida State then kicked a 41 yard field goal, cutting the deficit to 34-6.
After a long Kansas State drive burned 5 minutes of clock before the Wildcats nailed a coffin corner punt, Joel McDonald again marched the ball the length of the field, before being shook up on 3rd down play. Joel watched helplessly from the sideline as his backup, Hitchcock, tossed an 11 yard touchdown pass to make it 34-13, which was the final score.
Joel actually played a solid game. He shrugged off 5 sacks to complete 15 of 25 passes for 217 yards. He did not throw a touchdown or an interception. The real difference in the game was Kansas State running for almost 250 yards. The running game set up Kansas State's play action passing, and shortened the game to keep the Florida State offense off the field.

2006 National Championship Game
Clemson (Willie Jennings) vs. Miami (FL)
While many regarded the Oklahoma-Florida matchup (where the teams were #1 & #2 in the voter polls) as the real national championship game, Clemson and Miami prepared for a title game.
Our own intrepid hero Willie Jennings, makes the start against the Hurricanes.
First Quarter:
After an exchange of punts, Miami punches the ball in on a long 51 yard pass to make it 7-0. On their second possession, Clemson rode the strong right arm of Willie Jennings, who started off the drive with completions of 12, 18, and 40 yards.
A sack on the fourth play knocked Willie off his rhythm, however, and Clemson was forced to settle for a 25 yard field goal, making it Miami 7, Clemson 3.
On the next three possessions both teams punted before Clemson took the ball on their own 21 with 38 seconds left.
Second Quarter
Clemson's drive stalled on Miami's 44, when a 4th down option play went horribly awry.
Miami's first possession of the second quarter saw them drive to the Clemson 7, before a field goal was missed wide right.
After a trade of punts, Clemson took the ball late in the second quarter and went on a long drive that stalled on the Miami 33 with 5 seconds left. A 50 yard field goal attempt was short, leaving the score Miami 7, Clemson 3 at halftime.
More To Come...
Player of the Year Voting:
1. Lewis Castillo (RB-UCLA) 310 carries for 2042 yards with 23 Touchdowns.
2. Gus Shepherd (QB-Arkansas) 340 of 582 completions for 4336 yards, 41 Touchdowns, 21 Interceptions.
3. Winston Hutton (QB-Miami (FL)) 141 of 215 completions for 2515 yards with 29 Touchdowns and 4 Interceptions.
I just read this whole dynasty tonight, keep it up, it's awesome! Go Norbert and OU!

2006 National Championship Game
Clemson (Willie Jennings) vs. Miami (FL)
Third Quarter
Trailing 7-3 at the half, Clemson QB Willie Jennings was determined to take control in the second half. On the second play from scrimmage, this determination would see him complete a 49 yard pass, putting the Tigers in business on the Miami 29. From there, four running plays moved the ball to the Miami 8, where Wille again struck gold, passing once again to his favorite receiver Poole for 8 yards and a touchdown. After the Extra Point, it was Clemson 10, Miami 7.
Unfortunately, the lead lasted one play as Miami's kick return specialist took the ensuing kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown, making it Miami 14, Clemson 10.
A Clemson drive stalled at the Miami 42, leading to a punt. Afterward, Miami used a mix of runs and passes, burned up 6 minutes of clock, and punched in another touchdown on an 8 yard run, making it Miami 21, Clemson 10.
Fourth Quarter
Late in the third quarter, the Tigers started a drive that would strike gold early in the fourth. After a false start penalty put Clemson back to their 23, Willie Jennings again found Tyrone Poole, this time for a 64 yard completion, which put the ball at the Miami 13. From there, a pass and a pair of runs ended in a 2 yard touchdown run by Vincent Bielby. However, Clemson's 2 point conversion attempt (in an effort to cut the lead to 3, failed. The score was Miami 21, Clemson 16.
After a trade of punts, Miami went on a long drive, capping it with a 4 yard touchdown run with 4:21 left in the game. The score was Miami 28, Clemson 16.
Now forced into hurry up mode, Willie Jennings struggled to find the time behind an offensive line that was increasingly porous. Bailed out twice by pass interference calls, he finally found Tyrone Poole for a 31 yard completion to put the ball at the Miami 30. From there, however, the drive stalled, and Miami settled for an ill advised field goal, making it 28-19 Miami.
After a failed onside kick, Miami took the ball on the Clemson 45. From there, Miami moved the ball to the Clemson nine, where a field goal made it Miami 31, Clemson 19.
With 1:29 left on the clock, two timeouts, and down by two touchdowns, Willie Jennings went to work one more time. An 18 yard completion bought one first down, but Willie again struggled to find open receivers and avoid sacks. With 27 seconds left on the clock, Clemson turned it over for the last time on downs. Miami killed the clock by taking a knee.
Final Score: Miami (FL) 31, Clemson 19

Conference Awards of Note:
First Team All-ACC QB: Willie Jennings (Clemson)
As an side note, the guys starting ahead of Emmanuel Harris (Todd McIntyre-Michigan), and Norbert Clark (Reuben Delgado-Oklahoma), were First Team All Conference at their respective schools, which might explain why Emmanuel & Norbert have been riding the pine.

2006 Season Wrapup Five Great Quarterbacks
Willie Jennings-Clemson
Willie had a brilliant season, repeating as ACC First Team QB, and guiding his Tigers to the National Championship game, which was lost (mostly due to his supporting cast) to Miami. With two years of eligibility left, Willie will enter the new season as a lock at starter, and as one of the top quarterbacks in the nation.
Joel McDonald (Florida State)
For Joel and particularly for the Seminoles, 2006 was a year of backsliding. Joel's failure to step up during several critical losses ultimately made it difficult for his team to accomplish its goals, and left FSU in Third Place in the ACC, with more questions than answers surrounding a team just two seasons removed from back-to-back National Championships.
Florida State fired their coach at the end of the season. Perhaps a new hire will turn around the Seminoles sagging fortunes. Joel will enter his last season of eligibility as the clear starter. How well he performs will play a large part in the FSU season.
Emmanuel Harris (Michigan)
Emmanuel spent his third season of eligibility (including a redshirt year) on the bench. As he enters his redshirt junior year, Emmanuel will compete for the starting job with redshirt sophomore Jason McElmurry, and redshirt freshman Cornell Donato. Emmanuel's development has been disappointing to the coaching staff, and the starting job is far from a lock for him.
Norbert Clark (Oklahoma)
For Norbert Clark, it was another long season on the bench behind successful starter Reuben Delgado. A redshift junior entering the 2007 season, Norbert will have no real challenge for the starting role. It is, barring injury, his job for the rest of his eligibility as he takes the controls of the #2 team in the country.
Byron Huntley (UCLA)
Byron's second season successfully established him as one of the better passers in the Pac 10 before a season ending back injury cut it short in the third game. Byron will be challenged this year by redshirt sophomore Greg Forbes, who started the last 8 games (and finished Byron's short start) and developed well during the season for a poor Bruins team.
Byron is not a lock for the starting role, if for no other reasons than questions about his durability. A new coach will also complicate matters for Byron as he seeks to make his redshirt junior year a successful one.
