Rate my possible buy

At risk of putting the rest of y'all onto what could be a good deal, I'm going to make sure I don't spend money on a bad deal. There's a 33-yo on the market with excellent stamina, excellent pm, weak secondaries, and outstanding experience. He pulls 2.5* in poor form, 4.5* in top form. I have over $600k burning a hole in my pocket, with another $2 to $2.5 MM coming at the end of the season. Would $500k for the aforementioned player be a good buy?

He only has poor leadership, so I don't think he's a very good coach candidate, the experience notwithstanding.

The only other guy I can find who's comparable in a quick market search is two years only, with brilliant experience, available for the same price.

If it fills a need for you, go for it. But remember at that age, he is one big injury from being done forever....

If his form is poor now, that is kind of high, if he is pulling the 4.5 stars, then get him.

At poor form, he's getting 2.5*, I'd have to get his form up to see good * numbers. Although my midfield is always in need of improvement, I give myself no chance of promoting this season (I'm five points off the pace, so would still be two short if I beat the series leader), so any spending should improve the club for at least a full season.

I personally don't think he is worth it at this point of the season. If you have no chance of promoting I would save my money. Wait until the off-season to make your big roster moves unless you are sure your only one player away from winning your series.

At the end of the season the will drop a little and should be a good time to find a 25-29 year old excellent midfielder.

FWIW, I got an Inad Exp/Exc PM 28yo IM for under $275k earlier in the season - I woulnd't make the buy until you're "one step" away from promoting.

How much did he go for anyway ?

He didn't sell in the first iteration, and after training, I think he gained a level of form. In what I would consider to be the very definition of chutzpah, the owner put him back on the market, for a higher price. (I always figure if a player doesn't sell, raising the price is not the appopriate strategy, but that's just me.) He got just one bid and sold for $525 000.
