Beginning of article:
"LOS ANGELES -- CBS has rejected two Super Bowl advertisements, one touting vegetarianism and the other bashing President Bush, because they violate its advocacy rules, the network said Friday.

<!-- END INLINE UNIT -->The ad prepared by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals asserts that meat-eating causes impotence, using two attractive women and an unlucky pizza deliveryman to make its point.
Meanwhile, the liberal online advocacy Web site MoveOn.org sought to place an ad that uses images of children working at adult jobs to criticize the federal budget deficit. "
Good job CBS! Score one for the good guys. Take that you stupid hippies!

Two thoughts:
- While I agree with the "no issues" stance, it's a little tough to reconcile with all the "if you do drugs the terrorists win" ads from last year. Different network, sure, but who really thinks CBS would have rejected those?
- MoveOn and PETA knew this was coming. They submitted ads so that they could be rejected and generate exactly these types of stories. They get people talking without spending $2M on the ads. Now that's good marketing.

Last year's Super Bowl was on FOX (I think). That pretty much answers that. :)

As noted on Saturnday Night Live, CBS has a policy of "no issue ads," unless the issue is bikini girls mudwrestling to promote alcohol sales.

I believe the phrasing was "unless you're advocating that chicks are sluts for beer."

I agree with CBS' move ..... I mean these 2 commercials could have overshadowed the game .

Can we label political posts with something in the title so I can stay away from them? This stuff (from both sides of the spectrum) gets tiring.

I think in the case of vegitarianism, it is the messanger more than the message that CBS rejected.

If anyone from PETA is reading this, we could use a few more naked women in cages around downtown Norfolk. THANKS!

I remember commercials in the Super Bowl for VeggieBurgers, I'd be fine with that. Or Baked Lays or random Atkins commercials or Subway diets or Heathly Choice or whatever. Baked Lays actually tasting better than their normal product, maybe they shouldn't be included in the list.

I think the correct term for the bikini girls is a "tissue ad"...
