My favorite sci-fi alternative history series is The Lost Regiment Series penned by William Forstchen .
It's about a Union Army Regiment The 35th Maine Infantry Regiment led by Col. Andrew Lawrence Keane and his Regiment being sucked into a vortex and transported into a world of Medieval Russians who are harvested for food by a Mongol type horde . A pretty good tale and basically the only sci-fi series that have really captivated my imaginations ....even reenacting the battles with civil war model soldiers out in the desert .
Very good and strong story telling with lots of twists and turns .

Hey good to see a fellow sci-fi reader. however i havent read any of Forstchen's "lost regiment" series. His "Wing Commander" series books are quite great.

I liked his Wing commander series too ....too bad thepublishers canned the series ....I liked Forstchen's write ups on Air to Air combat and the start of the kilrathi war .
If you liked his writtings you'll love The Lost Regiment Series The first book Rally Cry starts off slow but picks up the pace .
