ESPN.com has a simulated gamecast for Super Bowl 38 going on now. It's currently 0-0 with about 8 minutes left in the 1st quarter.

These Gamecast things don't require some sort of membership signing up or something...do they? I wonder how the PbP on the Gamecast is...

They didn't kick a field goal from the 28 yard line with 2 seconds to go? That's an odd move by fox!!!

Uh...if John Fox thought Delhomme threw too much against the Rams, then how in the hell would he have thrown 18 passes in the first half against the Patriots?

The QB stats are updating before the pbp. It's like playing Tetris with the preview on.

Looks like Carolina's going to take it on the simulation. All it reinforces is it's going to be a good game.

1:06 left Brady just got sacked!

Ksyrup
01-21-2004, 02:22 PM
Both Delhomme and Brady had TD passes in their stats for the entire 4th quarter, so I knew what was going to happen.

If the real game is as closely contested as this was...it should be a good game.

If the Patriots took a timeout at :51 after 2nd down, then what happened to 4th down? The clock couldn't have run out on the 3rd down play + 40 seconds, right?

ESPN used Whatifsports.com to simulate it.

Super Bowl XXXVIII (Feb. 1) is still more than a week away, but we've got an early look at what might happen. We asked WhatIfSports.com to simulate a matchup between the Patriots and Panthers and the results were close. After simulating 10,000 games, the Panthers came out on top, winning 53 percent of the games.

I'm not sure, but that TO would have been the Pat's last. Maybe the guy just never got out of bounds and the clock never stopped. Just speculation of course.

Can we get some simulated interviews?

Can we get some simulated interviews?

We've been playing tight games all year long," said Delhomme, who was 17-of-28 for 166 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. "I just knew that if we stayed relaxed, lady luck would be on our side."

"I learned a lot of clichés in my previous jobs around the league but they applied today," a jubilant John Fox said. "We pushed our chips to the middle of the table and just won, baby!"

there ya go.

Just speculation of course. But if the 3rd down play started at :51 after the timeout and lasted, say, 5 seconds (which is more than a kneel-down ought to take), then that would leave :46 left to burn...

...meaning Carolina would have had to kill about 6 seconds on 4th down after the 40 second play clock expired...

...meaning John Fox would have employed the Bellichick "genius" move of taking a safety...

...to beat Bellichick in the Super Bowl!

How could they have blown the opportunity to script it like that?!

dola,

however... if the temp. was to drop to 0 degrees in the stadium, the Patriots would win 45-0 :).
