All right boys and girls, this dynasty will follow the greatness that is the AFSC(Auto Finance Super Center) flag football team. We finished last season strong, with a 82-12 loss to wrap up one of the most impressive 0-10 flag football seasons ever. Next season should be much better though as it is our second season as a group, our plays were starting to work and our defense was starting to come together, when we suddenly lost a few players to injuries and not showing up. The last game, we had 7 players, (7 on 7) and only a few were fast enough to keep up with opposing WR's. Ouch. Now, everyone is back and we are expecting at least 3 wins.
The game is 7 on 7, 3 down lineman. Full contact from the waste up. No stiff arming or flag guarding. Most plays end in a flag being grabbed, but more than a couple a night are ended by a tackle/flag grab. Refs are provided by the facility, The Sports Bubble(Thats right, we play in a bubble). www.thesportsbubble.com
The Roster!
QB) The Afoci---Yep, that is me. I took over the job about week 5 last season after being the best Center in the league. ;) I led the team in catches prior to that and once becoming the QB, in my first game I threw 6 TD passes. Three to each team. I can cover the entire field which is only 40 yards with 7 yard endzones. My running ability, well limited, was effective last season. I am fairly sure I had a rushing TD in everygame I was QB. Defensively I was not so good. I did have 1 INT that I returned for a TD, but my stamina isn't the greatest and I do lack the speed to keep up with the anything but an average guy. Also play LB on d.
Offensive Line
BoB---Stud. He plays the LT position and is probably the best in the league. A few games last season, they stopped lining up over him, which caused a rule change that defenders had to be in a 3 points stance or 3 yards off the line of scrimmage. Not the swiftest of foot, this 6'5" beast can catch the ball, but isn't going to run by anyone. Probably catches about one a game. Plays some D-Line, but lacks enough speed to catch most teams fast QB's. Blows up the line though. Also plays DL.
Scott---He plays Center. Small guy with average speed at best. He is small, but effective blocker. Great knowledge of the game and senses the blitz well. Good hands as well. Plays some DL, but speed issues prevent much. Had a few sacks last season. Also plays LB.
Ricky---Plays RT. This guy is in the gym every morning at 6 am. He is about 5'8" and 200lbs. Throws guys around, but lacks the lateral speed BoB has and sometimes misses the outside blitzers. Catches the ball good, but not a bunch of speed once he does. Also plays DL.
WR's
We generally run 3 WR's, on occasion, Beck plays RB on hook and ladder type plays.
Beck---Best overall player we have. He is the fastest, has the best hands and hates to lose. He never gives up and never gets tired. Might be one of the fastest in the league. Led our team in picks and catches. Also plays DB.
Shane---Former college Wide out. Great route runner and good hands. His knee has been hurting him of late and he probably won't play D anymore. Fast. Also plays DB.
Pat---Raw WR. Good speed. Runs vague routes, but catches when the ball is near him. Plays okay defense, but nothing special. Also plays DB or LB.
DL
We generally run, 2 DL's
Ryan1---Fast rusher who has no stamina. Was good in first halves, really bad in second. Hopefully, with more players we can keep him fresh.
Ryan2---Slow, but consistant. Not a good blocker! ;) Played some O-line last year as fill in and it was trouble. Got close to the QB, with some rest, might get there.
Hauger---Rarely shows up, but when he does he is the drunken pass rusher. The man is angered easy, and takes it out on the line. Hopefully will get to the QB some more.
DB
Vogly---Fast with good pass coverage. Was recently cut from a DII school a CB. Broke his ankle in the 3rd or 4th week of play. Good hands when he plays WR.

It sounds like your offense is much better than your defense.

We are hoping that the defensive problems were because of stamina. Our offense was good until the goalline. We are hoping to change that his season...:)

Makes me want to get a flag football team going again. Then I remember that it took us 8 games to score an offensive touchdown the year I played and it goes away very quickly ;)
I'll be reading, good luck!
I can't wait to play again on base. I have literally never played flag ball, thanks to my ankle. Now I'm healthy though and not on sea duty. :)

Ah the snow storm cancels a bubble game. Go figure.

I didn't want to cancel it. I guess 1 to 2 feet of snow makes people not want to drive. Pansies.

Alright, this Sunday, we play Chubs Pub at 5:30 in the Sportsbubble. Tickets are unavailable, considering there is no seating. :) Come early as it is standing room early.
Chubs Pub
They are a strange team. They should probably be one of the best teams in the league, but they like to fight with eachother a ton. Their line consists of 2 former college FB's who are quick and give their QB tons of time. The center is a small guy, who is very overactive. He blindside tackled me last time we played, so their is a decent chance that a slant pass may find his face early in the game. :) Their QB is a fat guy who isn't very mobile, but can throw anywhere on the field. His accuracy is somewhat limited, but their receivers are highly talented and make him much better than he really is. They only have about 10 players, so stamina for them is a factor.
Our Keys for Victory
1. Have at least 12 people show up. We need to be able to rotate offensive and defensive players to stay fresh against a much more quicker squad overall.
2. Keep their recievers in front of us. Let their QB make bad passes and hope we can make them turnovers.
3. Put some pressure on the QB. I know their line is tough, but we need to find a way to make their QB move more so he is more likely to screw up.

Edits to the Roster...
Pat is out as of now. He is playing basketball on Tuesday nights and said he doesn't have time.
Adam, WR/DB A 6'6" stud athlete in basketball. Sadly he knows nothing about football at all. Played last season and was good at defense, but horrible at offense. The man has the softest hands to never catch a ball. He is very confused as a route runner as well. Pretty much is a great decoy, because the man is fast, tall and looks like an athlete. Hopefully by midseason, he will finally catch on everything...
Doug, OL/DL Truthfully I know very little about this guy. I guess he was a MLB in college and has been lifting weights since then. He is suppose to be pretty fast. Will probably start at Center or RT if he shows up Sunday.
The starters for Sundays Game
QB---Me
WR---Beck(at about 90% after his ankle injury last season), Shane, Vogly
Subs---Scott/Haug
OL---BoB, Doug/Scott, Ricky
Subs---Scott/Ryan's
DL---Ryan1, Ryan2
Subs---The Afoci/Haug/Ricky/BoB
MLB---The Afoci
Subs---BoB/Haug
DB---Beck, Adam, Vogly
Subs---The Afoci/Haug/Shane
S---Scott/Haug/Chris(Might come, small guy)
Subs---Same as starters...

Well, after a horrible furniture accident, icy roads, jobs and other assorted screw ups, our roster was slightly thinner than planned. This lead to a big problem. Only 8 people showed up for our squad and about 14 did for theirs. It was 8 vs a full offense and defense. Stamina is now an issue...
We lose the toss and go on defense. We were defending the south goal.
Starting Line up
DLine---Ryan, BoB, Ricky
MLB---Scott
CB---Beck, Shane, The Afoci(oh no!)
Chubs first possession was a great defensive effort that included two big screw ups. On fourth and 5, we miss picking up a line who easily catches a first down. The same thing happens on fourth and goal. We stop the two point conversion and go over to offense down 6-0.
Our offensive starters.
OLine---BoB, Ricky, Ryan(OH NO!!!!)
QB---The Afoci
WR---Beck,Shane,Haug
After a scramble for about a yard, an incomplete pass, we run two underneath routes and one deep in. After I am forced to the right, a common occurence as our O-line which was not our 'starting' one was unable to give me anytime with the exception of BoB and Ricky, I saw Beck coming open. I throw it up and he jumps with two guys on him and comes down with it and turns up field for a TD!!!! We miss the two point conversion... 6-6.
They come back and score quickly on a deep route and we are down 14-6.
Then we start getting really tired. The next two possessions for us end in INT's returned for TD's. By halftime, I have thrown 5 INT's and 1 TD for us. About 4 TD's overall. Not a bad start ;). We switch QB's because Shane thinks he can do better to start the second half. His 6 plays consist of this. 1. Safety.
2. Tip ball for INT.
3. INT
4. Short completion.
5. Incomplete
6. INT
Refs then comment to me, I guess I see why you were the starter.
I go back in and we move the ball but are unable to get in the endzone on 3 possessions. Ryan, well blocking better than he has ever done so, is still a major hole. The pressure from the right side is nearly unbearable. We run a out and up to Shane who is wide open but as I release the ball, Ryan's guy drills me and it comes up just short. The next play, Beck breaks wide open down the sideline and I throw it about 5 yards too long. Then BoB, our 6'5", 250+ speedster, breaks free down the sidelines, has three people grab his fine ass instead of his flag and he trots into the endzone for our final TD. We manage only 12 points and give up roughly 50 or 60. I will find out later when they post the final scores.
Coming up next, a much easier game, a few roster moves and hopefully people showing up to the games!

Makes me think about doing an intramural ice hockey (forward) and gym hockey (goalie) dynasty. Alas, don't want to steal your thunder.
Last semester at GT I played IM flag football - I got screwed out of the lineup, but I was a pretty solid LB, and never got a fair chance as WR on offense. Was still a blast, though.
In hockey this semester, I'm off to a disappointing start in gym hockey. 2-0-0 record in goal, with a 3.00 GAA (which isn't all that bad). Problem is, while I make some great saves, I let in some weak goals. Last game, I gave up three goals...
1) a rink-long high wrister over the goal which popped out of my glove and dropped in front of the net where it was put him.
2) a pass from behind the net which went off a foot and stopped right in front the goal when I lost sight of it, and it got poked him.
3) a 70-foot curving wrist shot which I just got caught off guard on.
Going for a shutout tomorrow... something that's VERY hard in gym hockey. Plus, we only have 4 guys showing up, I think, so I'll probably get hung out to dry a lot (which shouldn't be a problem... I can make the big saves - it's the easy ones that give me trouble).
Good luck Afoci!

Even with all the turnovers and the lopsided score, it felt competitive throughout. They never really had much going on offense. It was generally 2 or 3 plays we would stop and one big one.
Makes me think about doing an intramural ice hockey (forward) and gym hockey (goalie) dynasty. Alas, don't want to steal your thunder.
Go for it. I would read.

The pain is getting worse today, but we have 1 more signee to the club and 3 more people who promised to show up next week. We should be much better with numbers.

Well I guess that is one less thing for tax payer money to be spent on... :)
It appears The Afoci's team is in dire need of a QB. Someone who will, let's say, complete more to his team than the other?

Hey, I know I completed at least 10 passes to my own team. Only two went for TD's. I don't have no Brewster lining up in the backfield to take the pressure off me. ;)

We play the lightweights this week. I have no clue about them at all. I think they are new, but there is a decent chance that they are an old team with a new sponsor. They haven't posted scores yet, so I don't know what the games were last week.

It was a cold, damp, dark night in Fargo. Six men in grey shirts arrive to a 7 on 7 game. Their names, The Afoci, Beck, Shane, Scott, Vogly, and BoB came into a game against a 1-0 team, the Lightweights. They had 10 players warming up on their side. The coin toss says we are on defense, down a man we take the field...
Three and out, the punt(magically puts the defensive team on the two yard line) a crossing pattern goes to the endzone. After another defensive stop, a Mike Vickesque(;)) run, the QB puts them up 14-0. By half it is 32-8. By the end, AFSC wins 44-14 for the first victory in the teams history!

Well... Believe it or not, the schedule was wrong. We show up and as soon as we walk in the bubble, the sight was something that scared me. It was Team Sports Bar. This is an allstar team of about 3 teams from last season. The first sight I see is a 6'5" 'Mr. Clean wannabe" who says "At 3% body fat, I feel I am too slow!"
Our team has eight players show up... Here are the starters:
Offense:
QB: Me
RB: Vogly
WR: Shane, Beck
Line: With BoB out due to illness, we patch together, Ricky, Scott, and the horrible blocker Ryan(Luckily he has the best game of his life!)
Our one sub is Haug.
They have about 13 players, 5 offensive specialists, 5 defensive specialists and Mr Clean and his brother, no slouch 6'3" and very muscular, playing both ways...
We win the toss and go on offense. First play I call is a stack to the left, Beck slants, with Shane doing a post. Beck opens up early and often and catches it about 10 yards down the field and walks into the endzone for the TD. We convert on the 2 pt conversion and Sports Bar looks stunned. They were expecting a very easy game today.
They put together a small drive, make it into our territory and we were able to hold them on 4th down. We get the ball back and we on the 3rd and short, I throw a ball which is tipped an picked off. We stop them once more and they don't know what to do. Fighting amonst them is starting to be a big point.
We score on our next drive and then trade touchdowns into halftime where the refs announce the score, AFSC 42, Sportsbar 30. Very important, keep this in mind.
On their first drive, a tipped ball is intercepted by Shane. Well going downfield, Mr Clean grabs his shirt and rips about half of it off. They call him down even though no flags are taken. After the play Beck is pushed down about 20 yards from the ball. Sports Bar is now appearing to have an attitude problem. We score and go up what we assume is 20 pts.
Sports bar burns us deep on their first play and then force us to punt. On the first play of their next possession, the QB is flushed from the pocket and taken down for a 3 yard gain. He continues down the field and lays out Vogly. I get in his face and we exchange shoves saying "Bring it". I remind him it is flag football and we are having fun. The refs step into tell everyone to simmer down. Next play Mr Clean feels its very important to attempt to break my right arm by first drilling me away from the ball and then throwing me to the ground. Personal foul on them, and an incredible sore and bloody elbow for me. They score on the next play and we assume we have a 4 point lead.... But wait. The refs call a tie game! What the hell. I guess the refs have troubles writing down 2 pt conversions sometimes. After a short argument with them, I proclaim, "Fuck it, they can't stop us anyway!" Mr Clean asks if I want to see the turf up close, to which I tell him to catch me first. Well he does about 10 yards downfield and suprisingly he doesn't go for my flag! He rips about a square foot of my shirt off and then slaps me in the balls! I end up pulling my own flag off so the ref would step in. Next play we score. On the two point conversion, I line up two recievers to the right, running back on my left. I look over the formation and realise that only Mr. Clean is on the right. I take off that way, and Mr Clean shed Vogly's block like nothing. Coming right at me, I do what I wanted to do all game. I rifle the ball into his face! It goes abour 20 yards straight up and I catch it and walk into the endzone. Mr. Clean is very pissed! We are up 8!
Next play they score and on the two point conversion, Beck stops the QB on the one and he spikes the ball, pushes someone and starts swearing. After the penalties, we start 1 yard from the midfield on our side(need only one yard for a TD). We get a false start and miss out on two bombs. On third down, Beck does about a five yard out, is wide open and I throw the ball. It is a little high and when he jumps, the safety that came up sweeps his legs out from under him and he lands on his head. On the personal foul penalty, we get the first down. Next play, Beck splits both DB's and catches the most unbelievable catch. The goes up in the endzone, well coming down, the ball goes back up in the air after hitting someone. On his back he is able to bring it in as it comes down. We get the two point conversion to go up 10.
They end up scoring the next two TD's bring them up 2, with 19 seconds left in the game. We have the length of the field to go and 2 time outs. First play is a 10 yard curl to shane. Time out. A 10 yard out to Beck with a short run gives and a time out gives us 5 seconds, 10 yards and the game winning TD chance. I roll to the left with two recievers that way. Mr Clean breaks through the line and as I release the ball towards the endzone, with Beck 1 on 1 with a much shorter guy, I get drilled under the shoulder. I land on the refs feet. I was hit so hard and cheap, I can taste vomit. Unable to breathe I look at the ref. He looks down and tells me it was a legal hit! Unbelievable. Meanwhile the pass I threw, sailed about 6 yards too far and we lose by two. Or win by 2 if the refs could keep score.
All I can say is that I hope we get to play this cheapass team in the playoffs.
The refs, unable to keep score announce it 62-60. I am sure it will be revised prior to it being posted on the website, but either way, it is a two point loss to a team that is one of the best in the league. Suddenly, things are looking way up for us...

Was there no off field score keeper at the game? I've had a similar thing happen before in flag ball where the referees wanted to give our TD to the other team. The referees finally agreed it was our touchdown.
After the game, I approached the guy who ran the league and asked him what would happen if I were to contest a score. He said both teams would have an opportunity to explain how the score came about. If both sides disagreed after recapping how the scores came about, the game would be thrown out, regardless. A rematch would be made, if both teams agreed to that.

There are two refs per game and a possibility of 4 different refs.
1. Art---The head ref, runs the whole league. Good guy and has the best knowledge of the rules. Can be a little biased towards team not complaining.
2. Jesse---Great guy who calls one of the best games. Very even, if one team gets too rough, he isn't scared to penalize, then eject.
3. Craig, I think. Only had him once. Seemed like a Pro ref.
4. Larry. Drunk, shows up late, smells like liquor, is the guy who generally screws things up. Must have naked photos of Art because he showed up late and drunk last season, and got into a fist fight at midfield with Art. Passed out before the cops got their. Was the man who screwed up our score.
We could call the league, but they won't do much. We might be able to get a rematch, but I doubt the other team would agree and if we played again, they would probably be more pissed and want to kill us more. I am fragile. :)
They had about 5 or 6 personal fouls, 2 or 3 Pass interference, 1 holding call, and we had about 3 false starts. :)

Well, sorry for the lack of update. It turned out I pinched a nerve in my throwing elbow during the game with Mr. Clean.
In what is no longer allowed, the last few teams picked up about half the roster of 'good' teams to play with them to get them to the playoffs. The league stopped allowing that unless your team is short players. Due to vacations, we have been playing with 6 players the last two weeks, which turned into losses. Next week we play two games, and I promise two victories....
My arm is finally healing and it doesn't kill me to throw the ball anymore, which is a plus for QB. Beck is back from a 3 week absense with ankle injury/california vacation and Ricky, Haug, Jordan, and a few new guys should be coming to play next week. In two weeks, we get the rematch with Mr. Clean. That will be an exciting game to say the least. ;)

Ahem. When your team is 1-5 going in, two victories cannot be declared uneventful.

Since I have some time quick, I will breakdown the teams some what the playoff system is.
First the playoff system. Teams that finish 8-11 will have a play in tourney for the 8 seed. 1-8, 2-7 and so on with a losers bracket. Single elimination. Points scored and points allowed are tiebreaker with head to head as the final tie breaker.
1. AGSCO---A bunch of farmers that are fast as hell and very physical. They beat people with pure speed for the WR's and QB and their line is overly physical and very effective. Fun group of guys to play against though. They are very respectful and sportsmanlike.
2. County Jail---A ragged group of fun guys and dinks. We played a few weeks back with a few of their guys on our squad. Some were nice, some dinks. Overall they are a very good squad. Their QB is the Vick of the league. He is easily the best QB in the league because he can cover the field while running. I saw him throw a ball, with pretty good umph across his body about 35 yards down field. Not only that, he is ungodly fast and spins like crazy. They lost their top reciever in week 2 or they would be undefeated more than likely. They are virtually unstoppable on offense, especially from 10 yards or closer. They run this jump ball play to a former basketball player who just outjumps everyone else.
3. Chubs---I broke them down earlier. They are playing really good finally. They have had the potential to be one of the best teams for a few seasons now, but just haven't.
4. Knickerbocker---Were probably one of the favorites to win the league until their QB went down with an ACL tear. Now they are very good everywhere but QB where they are well below average. It is funny watching open recievers and a good defense be screwed over by a QB who looks to only one reciever. :)
5. Sportsbar---See prior weeks game.
6. Homebodies---I have never seen them play. I heard they can be the best team in the league or the worst team. They will beat or be competitive with a good or great team, but lose to one of the bottom teams. I think they lost to the roughriders one week, but I am not sure.
7. AFSC---A really sexy QB.
8. DBR(Belkey from perfect strangers)---A smart, but unathletic team. We played them a few weeks back and lost because we only had 6 players. We led by 8 at half and in the second they blitzed 1 or 2 extra guys every play and finally figured out that if they can get some protection to the QB, they will have at least 1 open reciever. They have a good line on both offense and defense, but really lack the skilled players need to win consistantly.
9. Lightweights---Smart, but slow team. They are really big and like to run the ball. Their passing game is perhaps the worst in the league as they have the worst QB by far and only 1 decent reciever.
10. Roughriders---They got shutout. They got shutout in a game of flag football. Yep. Shutout.
11. Rokke Construction---Just a bunch of guys that probably could be good if they weren't drunk and just out looking to have a good time. Probably one of the teams that was the most fun to play against.

I guess we did have the most perfect hook and ladder play ever. First play from scrimmage in the second game. Shane comes in motion from right to left, Beck lined up as a back on my right. Shane stops at about 7 yards and before he comes down from his jump, he tips the ball to Beck who was about 5 yards away from him, right on the sidelines and he was gone. Rokke Construction looked at us and asked for a redo. I guess one of their players shoe was loose. That is when we knew this would be a fun team to play against. :D
And you've probably never ran the play I told you about. Hater.

Dropping my pants and singing "In the Navy" hardly seems like a play.
But we did run this play twice in one game for a TD both times. Shane at RB on my right. Vogly wide left, Beck wide right. Before the defense gets set, I start walking towards Vogly telling him to come towards me. When I say his name, we hike it to Shane and Vogly and Beck streak(Run down the field fast, not naked, perv ;) ) and I just go sit in the middle. I can see falling for it once, but twice.... :)
Sit in the middle. Perfect use of your talent.

Someone has to trick the DB's into thinking he is important.

Without a doubt. Who does that on your team?

Generally we try to only get 2 or 3 people into the patterns. Everyone else plays decoy.

So where does your talent come into play?

My talent comes in not throwing and INT in two games now. :) You should have tried that in your TCY dynasty....
Your talent also comes in that you don't throw the ball from what I've read.

Throwing has never been my problem. My problem is who ends up catching it.
Throwing may never have been your problem. Accuracy, maybe.

I blame the receivers. :) I mean, they can't expect me to throw it right to them everytime. :)

Plain and simple we got screwed. We lost by 12. One ref was on our side, one wasn't. And boy did he hate us. We had a guy running down the sidelines with no one within 5 yards of him get called for flag guarding. His hands were too close to his side... Anywho, we also had 1 lineman show up. That helped. Oh well. Next week we get the big rematch with Mr. Clean.

I blame the receivers as well. After all, one of them should be the quarterback. It's not fair to leave it to you.
