when is the earliest I can file a federal tax return?
where can I find the dates for when i can file state tax returns (new york and new jersey)?
I'm looking to get these out of the way as early as possible... and seem to be at a loss when trying to find the filing dates.
any help is appreciated.

You can file any time in the year if you have all your W2's federally. As far as state, here in Utah. I had my taxes done at this time last year both state and federal.
I had both returns in my account from direct deposits by Feb 1st.

I'm an accountant, I encourage everyone to ask for some tax advise.

I'm pretty sure the answer to the first question is January 15th - so you're all set on that one.
