Not sure how many of you guys enjoy this great strategy game...but some of the forum members have created a potentially awesome new mod that combines and enhances the EEP and AGC mods.
The first beta was just released, and while there are some definite kinks to be worked out, the game is very enjoyable and you have a great opportunity to see changes made to an already great game.
I'd be interested in hearing from any of you what you think of the beta right now...
Check out the forum for this merger here (http://www.europa-universalis.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=82):

I always got worked in that game. I'll have to load it up again, and check out this beta sometime soon...

The game is really tough...that's why I find myself going back to it every month or two for a while. The game really punishes you if you don't expand with a plan...I would find myself jumping for joy when I could secure an alliance with a major power...the diplomacy of the game is key...and before you expand or fight anyone, be sure that your early wars are over lands that you have a claim to...if you can secure all the provinces with your shield on them, go after provinces with the same culture, then religion...then...well, you don't need my advice at that point...
I've always enjoyed playing a German minor like Brandenburg...but for a fun challenge that is a great way to learn, try playing as Muscovy and unite all of Russia...your options are huge...you can literally expand in all four directions and you get some really nice events that help out...
Happy gaming...I've just talked myself into a new game of EU!

Man...I'm leaning more towards playing EU2 once again. I can never get the whole "merchant" thing going for me, and am a bit leery about applying that mod to the game. Nevertheless, I'm beginning to wonder if I should probably select an easier setting...

Remember to set the AI aggressivness to Weakling...if it is set too high, the computer will actually be easier to beat because it will continually fight, suffer massive stability problems, and never fully develop some of the key nations...
What problem are you having with merchants? Do not use the autosend function...it's a waste of money and merchants...focus on those Center of Trades nearest you at first...
I usually wait till I have 4 or 5 merchants and then I'll send all of them but 1 to a Center of Trade...once you get a message telling you how your merchants did, send your additional 1 or 2 merchants there to take advantage of any spots opened up by you chasing away some of your competitors...
I'm by no means a dominant player but consider myself decent....I usually play at Hard/Weakling settings...
If you are just learning or find yourself still struggling...consider using the command ORANJE in the F12 screen...it will give you perfect stability and help you keep your head above water while you are figuring everything out...

I think I try to establish a merchant into a Center of Trade, but I end up getting chased away. Personally, the whole raising of forces and stuff I think I can manage well enough. I just never have any sort of success when it comes to Center of Trades.
I also think I've been having problems acquiring more merchants; I haven't read the manual much -> To be honest, I mostly just jump into games and reference the manual as I go along. Yet, I can't seem to figure out how to acquire more merchants and when to send them to Center of Trades (while at the same time, preventing from getting chased away)
