Two months ago, one of my dish network recievers went kaput. After talking to a technician, I was told I would be sent a replacement reciever. About a week later, I get the new reciever, put the bad one back in the box, and take the box to UPS the next day to send back.
Today, my bill says I owe them $199 for a reciever. I talk to a customer support rep and she tells me I need a tracking number to verify I sent the bad one back. Arghh!! I have no idea where that piece of paper is now.... two months later!?!?!?
I guess I'm SOL? I know it's my fault, but I'm going back to direct tv when my 1 contract is up.

That sucks. I wouldn't give up though. Keep pushing your case up the ladder until you're happy. I suggest using the switch to DirectTv angle. $199 represents what - 3 months service. They would be better off giving you the receiver and keep you on board for your continual monthly fee.

Thank You! Thank You!
I called them back and acted like I was calling for the first time, the guy says, have you ever had 5 recievers? I say, nope, only 4. He says, I'll be right back. After about 5 mins he comes back and says, sir I'll take off the $199 for the reciever. I'm like, good you were about to lose a customer. :)
The moral?
"If a customer rep can't help you, call back and talk to someone else."

Why are you with the Dish Network anyway? DirectTV blows it out of the water, plus you can get the NFL package :)

Glad to be of help. Believe me, I have enough experience with it. As the adage goes, "never take no for an answer."

That only works to the degree that there IS any wiggle room. Otherwise, you're going to find that it's like beating your head against a brick wall. I'm glad it worked for you this time, though.

I had Direct TV, called them about a reciever problem (imagine that). The lady told me she wouldn't replace it until it completely quits. I called Dish Network, got 3 recievers plus 1 tivo style reciever all hooked up for $49.
I'm going back to Direct TV when I get a HD TV... sometime in the future.

I always think that they have some kick ass CRM system that would let them know you just called 10 minutes ago.

Yes.
Ditto on Sunday Ticket. It truly is awesome. Especially with 2-3 HD telecasts each Sunday.

Nah, I get plain old ordinary cable from local Sunflower (because everything in Kansas is related to "Oz" or "Sunflower) here in Lawrence. I can't complain- it's paid for by our apartment and we get 70-odd channels. I *do* pay an extra $30 per month for cable modem but I don't consider that since it's computer needs vs tv needs ;)
