View Full Version : Diablo 2 Multi Anyone?

You know, sadly I never really played Diablo 2 much when it came out...for some reason I had the urge last night to reinstall it and give it another go. Something clicked this go round, and I've spent all day sitting here at work anxiously awaiting the day to end so I can go home and fire it up. :)
Would there be any interest in doing a multiplayer game of this sometime? I'll give fair warning that I'm very much a newb to the game, and have never played it multi, mostly due to the fear of the people I expect to find on battlenet, but a group of FOFC'er I could handle...well, some of you at least.
Would anyone be interested though? I know it's getting a bit long in the tooth, but I know they released a new patch recently, and there appear to be a fair number of mods we could try out if people are bored with the standard game. I'm game for anything, I'd just like to see the game in action multi, as I hear that's where the real fun is, but I don't have the patience to deal with the typical crowd.

I'd be interested. I got it Day 1 and played abnd played and played. Yes there was a lot of crap on BNet but nothing I couldnt ignore since I soloed mostly anyways. And then...
Patch 1.10 will be out soon.
So during the 47 year wait for the patch to end all patches I lost interest. With 1.10 my charqacters are gone anyways due to the fact that I'd play a ladder character anyways. But yeah,I'd be interested even tho I'd be a lvl 1 amazon again :)

I'd be interested, but I don't know if I have the connection to handle it. Otherwise I love Diabloe 2 tho. Best Game Ever.

I'm stuck on 56k myself..hopefully you're not any worse off than that. :)
I'm still trying to decide what I'd like to play..think I'd like to go Necro and summoning..such decisions. Spent most of the afternoon here at work looking up info, that's what Friday afternoons are for. :)
Seem some really cool mods though, but they all seem to ramp up the difficulty quite a bit..which I'm not sure is a good idea for a beginner to the game, but some of them add some cool stuff.

I'm on 56K also but I never connect at anything faster then 33K for some reason. If I do play I'll be using my trusty Paladin. I don't have the expansion pack tho, so I hope that wouldn't be an issue.

Ouch, that is rough.
The expansion shouldn't be a problem I think. I have it, but I'm pretty sure I can build a non-expansion character so we could play.
Might give this some time and see who else wants in, I'll probably be playing quite a bit over the weekend, to get into the swing of things.

I'm playing a game now called Level5Dweeb - password is FOFC.
Hadn't played in 90 days so its time to build up a new guy. Should be on for an hour or two this morning before I have to find something productive to do ... in the eyes of my wife, not me.

Oops, looks like I missed ya hoopsguy.
Hmm, I was going to go ahead and create a game since I imagine I'll be on off and on throughout the day, but every time I try to create a game..I get a failed to join error. Wonder what's up with that?
I appear to be able to join just fine..guess I'll go look for some help on Battlenet. Might be something stupid I'm doing.

Dola,
I have a game going now on U.S. West.
Name- FOFC
Password- Dola
I'll be off and on probably throughout the day, will keep the same name and P-Word. If someone else hops on and it's not there, feel free to create it yourself. I've got very little to do today. :)

Calis, I see now why we missed each other - I'm on the US East server.
Calis
01-31-2004, 01:54 PM
Ooops..well it looks like I'm the only Westerner showing interest, so I'll swap over to the East server.
All that hard work to get my Necro up to 8 is wasted. :p
I'll switch over to East now.
Do we want ladder or non-ladder characters? It doesn't matter to me, but I can see that we can only play with characters of the same type. I don't really see a point in me personally going ladder, but I don't know if I'm missing some benefit. Seems like it's just bragging rights no?
Calis
01-31-2004, 02:00 PM
Dola,
Does someone have an FOFC game running over on US East now? Either that, or there's quite a coincindence. Seems to be a level cap though, I can't join. I've just got a lvl 1 noob.

Heh, go for it.
I'm having a blast with it so far..don't know how I avoided the craze the first time around.
My Necro Gertbeef is a force to be reckoned with.
I need to hit the gym, so I'll be gone for a few hours..if anyone comes around feel free to start up a game, I think our FOFC name might be taken on East by someone else.
I went ahead and made my guy a ladder character. What the heck.
Once I get back I should be around for the rest of the day, hopefully SOMEONE will decide to play around that time..or else I might get Diablo Cabin Fever. I'd like to see how crazy it gets with multiple folks on.

OK, going to join your game if you are playing. That was my game with same name/password as you had listed earlier ... forgot to take off the auto "within 4 levels stuff".
Currently at Lvl 14 Druid but would certainly be willing to ride shotgun with lower level characters or start a new guy.

US East, expansion, ladder.
hoopsguy and I just finished up Act 1.
Think he's done for now, I'm going to take a break for a while and might hop back on later if anyone wants, I have no problem building another guy, so no biggie.
That was a lotta fun though, pretty crazy, and I got myself mauled a few times, but I'm learning. :)

Ragone, not sure. This is the first time I have picked up the game in at least a year and just decided to play something I had not tried before. Since this was the first multi-action I have had, I haven't really gotten a chance to see other classes in action.
It was a lot of fun playing with Calis, rolling out the Necro/Druid combo as we both summoned a bunch of grunts to do our dirty work for us - neither class is terribly physical.

I'm not sure what's the hot thing now either. From what I've gathered reading, and I've only checked on Necros I guess that the skellie summons have been beefed up a lot. Apparently they were a waste before. No clue on anything else though, I can't bring myself to play anything aside from a Necro so far..really enjoying it.
I spent a little time playing this Nezeramontias (http://www.cs.appstate.edu/~cb/personal/nezeramontias.txt) mod this morning. It seems pretty neat. Frigging HARD though. My poor little Necro ran right out of the starter town and smack dab into some Champion Quill Rats, which were not fun. Every fight is tough in this sucker, but it doesn't seem like TOO much. The mod also adds some new skills, bunches of new items, I think the level cap is now 1000 or some crazyiness, buncha new stuff for the Horadric cube to do..upped the speed for both you and monsters. Just something to fool around with.
I had a blast playing multi yesterday. Looking forward to doing it again some time. You people on the fence should get on the ball! :)

I started playing today, just about through Act I with an expansion character, non ladder. I'd be up for some FOFC play if anyone is interested.
Calis
02-04-2004, 11:08 AM
I'd definitely be interested. The characters hoopsguy and I used were ladder, but I'm all for making a new guy. I made a few mistakes with my Necro build I'd like to do over again.
I'll try and work on getting a non-ladder guy caught up tonight if I get a chance.
Funny enough I just reloaded D2 a couple weeks ago. Paladin is my current choice of char. Good memories...
If you guys could use one more, I'm generally on during the EST nights.
hoopsguy
02-04-2004, 08:41 PM
I'm probably not going to be around for a few days ... just really backed up with work and out of town this weekend. I'll bump this next week sometime when I get back, see if people are still interested and if anyone is still left around my lowly level 20 druid (or new dork choosing non-ladder option).

Ladder.
At least hoopsguy and I made ours ladder.
I'm building up another ladder guy also now with some people I met from the RPGForums, which seems to be the only Diablo 2 place where you can find somewhat mature folks to play with. The guys I played with knew what they were doing though. I spent most of the time trying to play catch-up, it was very fast paced.
I've still yet to play anything but a Necro, kinda sad I guess. :)
Having a blast though, and I'm sure I'll be on quite a bit this weekend.

Sending out a call for tonight. I'm planning to play for a few hours. In ladder my druid is ready to take down Act2. I'm somewhere around 15 in non-ladder with a Barbarian. Think I'm right about ready to start Act2.
I'll be playing my Druid in FOFC/Dola but if I see someone post here about wanting to play non-ladder I'll jump out and check that game out.
I'll try to quickly ladder up a pally.

02-09-2004, 06:03 PM
Druid is now starting Act 3. Still running games under FOFC/Dola when I'm playing (East server) if anyone wants to join in ... Think the druid is now at Lvl 24.
Calis, where are you at now in the game? Am I lagging behind your character?
Calis
02-09-2004, 06:23 PM
hoopsguy- I actually haven't played my old Necro since we stopped playing.
I did however roll up a new Necro and played with a group of guys this weekend. It was snowy and crappy out all weekend, so I used that as an excuse to just play all weekend basically. :)
My new guy is sitting at Lvl 44 now I think it is, and is on Act 2 in Nightmare, but I've been kinda wandering back and forth trying to get Perfect Gems. That's my goal tonight, to get a hold of a Perfect Topaz so I can make my Prismatic amulet. All I need!
Ok...I'm addicted.
hoopsguy
02-09-2004, 07:11 PM
LOL, you have been flying along. That is pretty low level to be so far in the game. I don't think that my Druid, even when he gets to Lvl 44, will be able to hang with that character unless I follow the same path ... find a group to ride with further into the game.
Well, I'm up for providing that service in Act 3 normal for someone who has a lower level character. Heading on now for an hour or so. FOFC/dola.
Vince
02-09-2004, 07:13 PM
You think 44 is low for Act 2 Nightmare? That's about right to me...if not a little high, I'd think.
I just fired up my old copy and started an Elementalist Druid...that's a fun character :) Been getting the greatest drops ever, too. Andariel in Normal dropped my 3 rares and a Nagelring. I've already got 50+% Magic Find, and I'm not even out of Act 2 yet. It's fun :) But I started him on USWest, so I'll have to start over to play with you guys.
hoopsguy
02-09-2004, 07:52 PM
Huh, I must just dawdle ... or else my memory is failing me. I was level 24 while wrapping up Act 2 in Normal and I don't think I'm going to get to Act 2 Nightmare in 20 levels. In my defense I'm also experimenting a little bit with a new class rather than trying to tweak the druid to maximum beat-down character.
My druid is more of a summoner, although I've gone across all three classes. Primarily summon wolves and support them by freezing our foes and casting spirits to buffer attacks. Haven't delved into the lycanthropy much, which I've heard is pretty impressive at later levels. Drops haven't been anything to brag about, as most of my items are gemmed rather than rares.
Vince
02-09-2004, 11:42 PM
My druid is the second incarnation...my first was a while ago and was a strictly Lycanthrope Werewolf. He did get pretty impressive later on...Fury is amazing. Plus, I managed to acquire Aldur's complete set, which made my guy ridiculous. This time I'm trying strictly Elementalist...it's a ton of fun, actually. I got really lucky with drops in Act 1, and I already have a Nagelring, a 10% faster cast rate AND 15% Magic Find Ammy, and Blodrise, the unique Morning Star.
The fact that you get bonuses to skills based upon points you have spent in other skills is crucial to my character...my 4 points in Molten Boulder make my skill Fissure rock...it kills just about anyone who wanders into it's area of effect instantly with only a couple people in the game.

02-10-2004, 01:34 AM
I've been on most of this evening. Just picked up Volcano recently and enjoying it immensely :)
I need to whine about items more often, as I've gotten a couple of quality rings and a circlet that is good for now in the last couple of hours. Still need a real weapon, armor, etc but I'm happy that the character is improving.
Vince
02-10-2004, 03:44 AM
Good times. Got a reality check when my Elementalist (USWest) faced off with Duriel...my guy can't go toe-to-toe combat with anyone who's tough, let alone Duriel! I do 30-80 damage, but I just can't take the punishment. Question...is it now mandatory that bosses drop 3 rares and a unique? It's happened to me twice now (Andariel and Duriel), just wondering if that's standard operating procedure now.
hoopsguy
02-10-2004, 08:21 AM
Suffice it to say that three rares and a unique has not been my experience.
Duriel wasn't kind to me the first time around either. My two summoned wolves were not strong enough to sustain damage from him. After I got up to three stronger wolves I was able to slink past him but I know that I did not have my Druid well configured for him.
Think I was about Level 21 the first time I took him on, so had to buff up at some of the other Tombs of Tal Rasha (probably my favorite way to waste time on this game) before the rematch. Act 3 was a breeze in comparison.
I got my pally to level 10 last night. Hope to catch up to you guys....sigh..... :)
Vince
02-10-2004, 01:35 PM
Yeah...Mephisto is a puss compared to Duriel. I'm with you...the tombs of Tal Rasha are some of my favorite levels in the game...especially since my Fissure absolutely destrotys skeletons, and will destroy them continually as they get raised for about 5 or 6 seconds...plenty of time for me to kill any Unravellers :)

Yeah, the guys I were playing with were rather hardcore and have apparently spent quite a lot of time playing as they really rushed through it. One of the guys is a Blessed Hammer Paladin, or Hammerdin..and that is SICK. Looks to be the most overpower skill in the game, does some crazy dmg.
I've got some pretty sweet gear on my Necro right now, got some nice Runeworded stuff and have managed to max out all my resists in Hell, along with some other nice bonuses.
Let me also make it very clear how much hatred I have for the Maggot Lair. That place is a Summoning Necro's nightmare.
Vince- the rares and unique thing is just good luck on your part I think, as I know that's not always the case. I've been shafted quite a few times.
My annoyance from last night. I picked up my Might Aura Mercenary in Act 2 of NM last night, which is a great aura for Skelliemancers, love the guy. I had been on the lookout FOREVER for a good Polearm for him to use. I finally decided to just gamble on it, and wound up forking out about 300k on polearms to end up with junk. Within 3 minutes of that, two unique polearms dropped, and nice ones. Figures.

gi, my Barbarian (non-ladder) is level 14 ... is your paladin ladder or non-ladder?
Calis, if I recall correctly I told you that I really had enjoyed the Maggot Lair the first time we played. Of course, haven't done it with a necro ...
Act 4 beckons for the druid. Will probably be on-and-off tonight with 24 and then the Illini game on later in the evening.
Hoopsguy: I made him ladder. I can start a non ladder since I am so low right now. Better to change now if there be changes needed.

Now if I could just get past Baal and enter Nightmare ... he just owns my balanced druid, even at level 39.

Ouch, if you can't get it done just let me know and I'll help you out.
I've been playing a sorc most of the day today and enjoying it but it's a heckuva lot harder than my necro. :)
And as for Duriel being tough, I've lucked out there as well. Slap decrepify on her and have a clay golem give her a few whacks and she just stands there swinging in slo-mo, then it's just a matter of sitting back and waiting for her to die.

Sounds like you have found a new class. I finished off Baal this evening, think I was Lvl 41 at the time.
By the way, found a unique necro item that you might be interested in if you are around over next couple of days - Blackbog's Sharp Cinquuedas. I'll hang onto it for a little while.
hoopsguy
02-20-2004, 11:09 AM
Well, made it to Act 2 on Nightmare at Lvl 47, so not too far behind your Lvl 44. I brain-farted when I originally posted ... I thought you had moved on to Hell at this level, which was why I was a little freaked out by the idea of being that far in the game with a 40-something level guy.
By the way, Blackbog's Sharp Cinquedas is a really incredible weapon. I had to push my Dex up about ten points to start using it (to 88) and I don't get to take advantage of the Necro skills boost (+4 to +6 for three different ones) but the +480 poison damage has taken the offensive capabilities of my character to a new level. I think this is the best item I have found in the game up to this point ... probably seen about ten different uniques so far in 1.10.
Calis
02-20-2004, 11:15 AM
Sounds like a nice weapon.
My Necro is at 74 now I think and the little bit I've played him lately has been doing Pit Runs in Act 1 hell. It's been interesting to say the least. I've removed basically all of his good gear and replaced it with high Magic Find pieces to try and find some "l33t" items down there. Makes things a bit tougher though. Hell is no joke.
I played around with a Paladin the other night, because I'd found almost the complete set of Sigon's minus one or two pieces. Think I'm missing boots and helm. Man, what a great set for a low level fighter, I've mixed it with a couple of life leech rings and I basically don't even bother carrying health potions anymore.
I haven't got a chance to play the last couple nights, but I'm sure I'll be back on more this weekend.
