TCY question - bowl bids

Hi... old-time member returning to the fold. Hopefully someone still plays TCY and can answer this. I got it a month ago and love it. :)

Anywho. Why don't bowl bids seem to go to the proper teams? I've built my Sol-8 team (St. Paul) into a national power but am not getting my just rewards. This season (2013), as of Week 16, I am #6 in both voter polls, #6.25 in the computer rankings, and 11-0, albeit with the second-worst schedule in the country. This is good for a "Final Ranking" of #7, which should put me in the Orange Bowl. But the Orange Bowl matchup is Texas (Final Ranking #6) versus Pittsburgh (Final Ranking #21). How did they get there instead of St. Paul?

I might be wrong, but I believe that a school from a non-BCS conference must finish in the BCS top six to be guaranteed a BCS bowl bid.

Vegas Vic is right. I can tell you that Pitt is the Big East Champ and has a spot in the BCS reserved for them. I can also tell you there is one other school with a Final Ranking below yours that received an automatic bid as well pushing you to number 9. :(

Word. The top six conferences (Big Ten, SEC, Big Twelve, Pac Ten, ACC, and Big East) all get automatic bids. Then the two highest ranked teams that haven't been picked get in. The "Final Ranking" listed in the bowl/playoff screen means the final ranking within those 8 teams. The Orange Bowl is 5th vs. 7th, right? That means Texas was the 5th highest BCS team, and Pitt was the 7th, probably.

Thanks folks. Looks like I need to crank up my strength-of-schedule. :) Although it would be nice for the BCS conferences to shift over the course of the game, it might not be doable.

Want a tip? With my SCE team (once I have them established that is), I schedule teams who were ranked 30-50 the year before. Always at home. That way the chance of an upset is low, plus I still get to play a team that will boost my SoS. G'luck getting into the BS :)
