So after my CoD post I wanted to go back and play Battlefield again...

After I d/l the new patch I went to go play online and it knocks me off the server saying invalid cd key.

Anyone know what that means??

thanks...

That means you dont have the code to play the game.

It should be on the CD when it was purchased - unless you didnt purchase it - then what you are doing is illegal

NO, I did purchase it. And I thought that's what it could be but I re-installed it and put the CD key in again and it's still saying invalid cd key.

This could be a problem on their side. I remember when I used to play TFC (Half-Life mod), occasionally I would get told that I had an Invalid CD Key. Waiting 5 minutes and trying again usually cleared it up. Try their official boards to see if anyone else gets this problem.

Sometimes people who are illegally playing the game can actually be using someone else's cd key. I know I heard some stories about this from Starcraft / Warcraft.

Damn Ramzavail, you are quick to claim the man is doing something illegal.... He'd have to be a complete dolt to come here and ask why his illegal cd key isn't working.

Perhaps just try re-installing and make sure your CD key is EXACTLY how it's suppose to be. It's possible it took the key, only to let you know it wasn't correct later. If it was an issue of somebody else using it, like the last poster said, it'd say CD key in use.

If that fails, and you've never played online before this, you could of got a bad case, which EA is notorious for publishing, and you have to contact them about getting a replacement cd key.

Or maybe you went onto a server without the correct expansion(s).

Try a few different servers also.

Heh Sabotai I used to be huge into TFC, what a great game. Unfortunately I guess having different classes which require different skillsets isn't in vogue in games anymore, now the classes seem to have only superficial differences in weapons.

Close, the new American thing to do is get a patent on bad products and then sue them for infringing on your patent. It's something kind of like this (http://www.asharewarelife.com/2004_01_25_archive.html)

I posted on planetbattlefield.com my message about the invalid cd key and they said that I was probably trying to play on a server that had an expansion pack or mod pack I didn't have. Soooo that sucks because I probably tired 30 servers after that and each one gave me that invalid cd key.
Oh well, back to SOCOM I guess ;)

Thanks for all you input....

Hey Cleve,

Just download the Desert Combat mod and you won't have to worry about expansion packs or anything.

How the DC team keeps releasing new updates with new maps, its like getting a expansion pack every other month.

Give it a try.

Then go to the WCC West Coast Combat server after you get the BF1942 1.6 patch and come over there for some good ol team COOP play.

We can kill some bots together bro!

If you don't have any of the maps on the server then go to modheads.com and d/l all the DC Maps that Greenbud has made and you are set.

Hope to see you there.

Did you ever play in any clans/guilds? TFC was really fun back in the day. Now they've added some things...most of the custom maps suck...the people who run the ladders are usually complete tools...it's gone downhill hard IMO.

I definately prefer class-based multi-player over what you see in most others. It adds a lot more strategy and teamwork to it. A group of great players with no teamwork will always lose to a team of good players with great teamwork. It just wasn't like that in other multi-player FPS I played.

I played in a clan, we were very loose and didn't do a whole lot of competitions, it was a lot of fun though. Haven't played the game in a couple years at least now.
