I am considering trading for a promising 2nd year player, but he has a 97 volatily rating. I haven't played any games so far, so I don't know if it is common for volatility to result in a player improving or cause him to crash. I'd love to hear about anybody's experiences with highly volatile players, positive and negative.

I've had both. Its pretty much random as to whether a high volatility, high potential player busts. He'll rarely boom, but rather just be slightly better than his projection.

So one direction is no more likely than another?

Does not seem to be. I think more often than not they stay very close to what they are. By this I mean within +/- 10 in the ratings categories.

I keep close track of volatility during the draft but tend to ignore it once I'm dealing with players who have been in the league for a couple years. I can track their on the field performance, the high potential busts I've had have generally been the type of player that seems to underperform their high ratings, and gradually descend to a bust, so if a player is putting up good numbers that's good enough for me.

You may not be able to even make the trade. If the team feels that there is too much invested (signing bonus) in his future.

This will really be an interesting topic, especially if Kodos not decides to make the trade.
For some reason, I think I am involved in this trade...
