This sounds...familiar, somehow. Didn't something similar happen with the original BattleCruiser 3000 A.D., where Mr. Smart blamed Take-Two for the the exceedingly poor showing of the game? Something about they went behind his back and deliberately released a crappy version to sabotage him, or something like that?

This is starting to seem like a modus operandi. Make a shitty game, blame the publisher when it gets released, sue them, claim that the game isn't remotely close to what your vision is, and spend the next four years fixing it.

The upshot is if that IS what he's doing...he won't have time to release any of his crap on Xbox before the end of its lifespan. Yay.

Starting to seem like an MO? We're well past that, I think. Do a post on the Strategic PC Games forum about him sometime, trust me the responding chorus will make the worst flamefest on this board look like a nursery school fight.

What the pencilneck seems to forget is that he's already got a reputation such that only a C list publisher like Dreamcatcher is willing to take a chance on him. I suspect the next version of his pos game will probably be released direct to shareware.

Don't get me wrong. I'm well aware of his behavioral record and past reputation. I'm just saying this is the first instance of repetition I've seen in terms of how he behaves with the publishers.

Not that I'm SURPRISED by his behavior. Quite the opposite. Moderately hopeful, if the truth were known.

From what I have read about Mr. Smart...he's a total egomaniac. And from the sound of it, paranoid too.

Same here, though my thoughts were more in line with, "Which Gopher sports team took recruits to the Vu this time?"

Paranoid, egomaniac, borderline insane...you're on the right track.

I took a look at the game movies on the game's website. It looks like it should have been made about 5 to 8 years ago, graphics wise. He should be thanking the publishers for lowering the price, cause at +$30 I can't see many people thinking about purchasing it. At least at 19.95 some might give it a chance.

C'mon, klayman, you're missing the point.

Derek Smart is a genius, the greatest developer of his time. Anything that's wrong with his games is either the fault of the publisher, or your obvious ineptitude and inability to recognize the genius that is Derek Smart.

Get with the program! ;)

LOL.

You're right. I've become a believer. Now if only Derek Smart can use his genius to develop an intergalatic space combat game everyone would be happy. :)

The scary thing is.. GoneGold is usually right on track about games, and reading their discussion.. This game (after the two beta patches Derek Smart has already released) could be as good as he says it is..
