Again, in case you have no idea what this is all about check out the first two installments of "The Five Great Players" dynasty through the following links:
Five Great Players - The Recruiting/2003 seasons (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?t=20462)
Five Great Players - Freshman Year (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?t=20862)
We are following the careers of five great players:
QB Larry Bostic - #1 QB, #1 overall prospect - Committed to UCLA
RB Tommy Sherwood - #1 RB, #11 overall prospect - Committed to Stanford
WR Irv Montgomery - #1 WR, #22 overall prospect - Committed to Michigan
DE Erik Manning - #1 DE, #2 overall prospect - Committed to Miami
CB Percy Lyon - #1 CB, #3 overall prospect - Committed to Notre Dame
---
All five of our guys were red-shirted in their first seasons and now we will really get this thing started as they will all be eligible to play.
---
Here is how things have went in the past college football and NFL seasons:
NFL
Super Bowl Champs:
XXXVIII: Tennessee Titans (over Philadelphia Eagles)
XXXIV: Tennessee Titans (over Philadelphia Eagles) in OT
NFL MVP:
2003: Peyton Manning, IND
2004: Donovan McNabb, PHI
College Football
National Champions:
2003: Tennessee Volunteers (over Michigan Wolverines)
2004: Georgia Bulldogs (over Florida State Seminoles)
Heisman Trophy Winners:
2003: Derek Rice, RB, Florida State (taken in the 2nd round by Chicago Bears)
2004: Tyrell Phillips, WR, Georgia*
*Tyrell still has 2 years of eligibility left!
--
Our guys now face the challege of the college football world. Some will see a lot of time, some will spend the entire season buried deep in the depth chart. We will take our first steps too see if, in fact, we are dealing with "five great players" or not!
--
Next up: Positional battle outlook for all five guys.

Situations going into red-shirt freshman years:
First let's visit QB Larry Bostic. Larry was the #1 overall recruit and spent his entire freshman year sitting on the sidelines watching his Bruins battle their way to an 10-2 season, culminating in a 31-30 win over LSU in the Capital One Bowl.
The UCLA staff has high hopes for the next four years for this young man. Larry is the favorite to have the starting position this season. His only threat would be RS Senior Roderick Parliaman. Parliaman would have two years remaining at UCLA and may look to transfer if he doesn't start over Bostic this year.
Last year UCLA split time between Tom Welch and Roderick Fulton. Both Seniors and now gone. Welch wasn't drafted and is still looking for work in the free agent market. Meanwhile, Fulton went undrafted but was signed to a league minimum deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
At this time last year we mentioned a guy by the name of Bruce Strickland who was a red-shirt sophomore who seemed to have a lot of potential. The UCLA coaches haven't been too impressed with his progression over the past year and off-season and I don't see him challenging our guy Bostic.
Bostic was always known as a braniac out of high school, one of the reasons he chose UCLA. He managed a perfect 4.00 GPA in his freshman year and is still with his girlfriend Mandy. He is pretty happy there and should contribute a lot to this Bruin team this year! Yahoo!
UCLA has been givin a ranking of #13 to start the season and Bostic is looking to vastly improve on that ranking as the season progresses.
----------
Now lets take a look at running back Tommy Sherwood who spent his freshman year on the sidelines and learning from him mentor Ronald Marincic who finished 5 in the Heisman trophy balloting and now plays for the New York Jets (drafted in the 1st round, 27th overall).
Marincic, along with fellow seniors Barry Lutz and Tony Nichols left and now the job belongs solely to Mr. Sherwood! There isn't much competition for the job and the Stanford staff is very impressed with the shape that Tommy has come in and should be an impact maker in his first action!
Tommy's personal life isn't exactly going so well. He still hasn't managed any luck from the ladies (no girlfriend) and is apparenly not very happy at Stanford. He managed a 3.06 GPA in his first year at a very tough institution. Maybe getting to play a lot this year will help that happiness rating (at 11 right now :( ) go up a little.
The Cardinal are ranked #34 in the coaches' poll to start 2004.
----------
Next up is wide receiver Irv Montgomery. Another guy that didn't play a down in 2004 and watched his Michigan squad have a great season, going 11-1 and winning over USC 45-0! The Wolves were front-runners to win it all until they lost to Penn State 21-13. That one loss ended all hopes for the 2nd strait year.
Irv was behind a couple good players at the wide reciever position, including Junior Ben Ellard and RS Senior Brenden Nygaard, both back for more this season. Ellard started 9 games (hurt for a couple) and managed 35 receptions for 627 yards and 13 TD's, while Nygaard started just three (playing in all 12) and hauling in 32 passes for 741 yards and 8 scores. QB Brian Swift is back for the Wolverines this season as our Irv will be looking to become the top target for the red-shirt sophomore QB.
Irv did a nice job in the classroom in '03 accumulating a 3.20 GPA and is happy (53) there. No girlfriend yet but that may be a good thing as he tries to keep his focus on the football and the books! Should be a fun season to see if he can make a large impact on a team that is looking for a national championship this season.
His Wolverines are ranked #1 to start the season for the 2nd time in as many years!
----------
Now on to the defensive side of the ball and we will start with our defensive end Erik Manning a member of the Miami Hurricanes. Manning, along with fellow freshman stud Riddick Hutt spent the season red-shirted. It is believed that these two players could develop into the most feared end tandem in the nation.
Seniors Chuck Gerhardt, Paul Solomon and Kelly Watcher have all parted ways and Hunt, Manning and junior Fred Wuerfell will see majority of the action. Hunt is almost guaranteed to start all the games and Manning may have to work pretty darn hard to unseat Wuerfell who managed 2.5 sacks in limited action last season. Gerhardt and Solomon are hoping to catch on with NFL teams while Watcher has moved on into his career in dentistry.
One thing that could be a concern for Manning and Miami coaches are his academics. Manning managed just a 1.80 GPA getting a D- and a D+ in two of his classes. He isn't the most intelligent person in the world and his professors have mentioned to the coaching staff that his aspiration is "lousy" and they rated him a 13 on a scale of 100. He is happy (55/100) and is still with his girlfriend, Chastity, who obviously doesn't help him too much with his school work.
Should be an interesting year as his Hurricanes are ranked #3 to start the season.
----------
And last but certainly not least, Notre Dame CB Percy Lyon. Lyon was on the sidelines for the entire Irish season, one in which they went 10-2 and declined to play in a smaller bowl.
Percy, from the beginning wasn't in a great situation as both starters had multiple years left playing. RS Senior Robbie Morrison started in all of the games and managed 27 tackles and 4 interceptions on the year. RS Junior Roderick Jennings was injured after the fourth game and he already had 3 INT. Fellow freshman Percy Walters should also see some time this season. He could win a starting spot in camp (unlikely) and will most likely be a dime or nickle CB and make an impact as much as he can.
Percy is extremely happy at Notre Dame. He managed to scrape together a 3.24 GPA as that tough institution and after dumping his old flame Farrah for a new and much better looking Yvonne he is looking even happier in South Bend!
His Fighting Irish are ranked #11 to start the season!
----------
Thats the situations. Bostic, Sherwood, Montgomery and Manning should see some nice time and Lyon can make a contribution all with 4 years of eligibility remaining. Should be some great careers to follow!

NCAA Game Spotlights: Week One
#1 Michigan 27, #19 Washington 0
How about this one! The top ranked Wolves leave no doubt in the minds of pollsters that they want to stay there this year. They go into a top 20 schools house and not only win, they dominate the Huskies in Seattle. Our Irv Montgomery had a successful debut as he caught 2 passes for 44 yards in the game. WR Ben Ellard stole the show with 3 catches for 80 yards and 2 TD's. It's good to see Monte establishing himself as a top two threat for QB Brian Swift.
Irv Montgomery weekly statistics
1 - @ #19 Washington (W, 27-0) - 2 rec. 44 yards, 0 TD.
----------
Season Stats: 2 catches for 44 yards and 0 TD.
Health: Good
Michigan Record: 1-0
Michigan Ranking: #1
#3 Miami 56, Utah State 14
So the Hurricanes keep their unbeaten streak alive with the win over Utah State. Our Erik Manning didn't do much although he did start the game. His partner in crime Riddick Hutt had a HUGE day with 4 tackles and 3.0 sacks! Manning had just one blocked pass on the day while the Hurricanes move to 1-0.
Erik Manning weekly statistics
1 - vs Utah State (W, 56-14) - 0 tack (0 assist), 0 sacks, 1 block.

Season Stats: 0 tackles (0 assists), 0 sacks and 1 blocked pass.
Health: Good
Miami Record: 1-0
Miami Ranking: #2
#11 Notre Dame 42, Michigan State 0
The Irish start fast against a faltering Michigan State program. Our DB Percy Lyon doesn't start the game but makes a solid contribution to the team with 2 tackles and an assist. He was involved in 6 pass plays and gave up 2 catches but not a bad first appearance for him. Again, the Irish start very strong and could move up in the rankings.
Percy Lyon weekly statistics
1 - vs Michigan State (W, 42-0) - 2 tack (1 assist), 0 sacks, 0 INT, 0 def.
----------
Season Stats: 2 tackles (1 assist), 0 sacks, 0 INT, 0 defensed passes.
Health: Good
Notre Dame Record: 1-0
Notre Dame Ranking: #6
#32 Stanford 49, Arkansas State 0
This was without a doubt the biggest game for us to follow as our RB Tommy Sherwood is making his first collegiate start! On his first carry and the Cardinal's first play from scrimmage he carried the ball for 3 yards. On his 2nd carry he broke through for 22 more! He also scored his first touchdown on that first drive from 11 yards out!! He ended up with 28 carries for 150 yards and 2 scores and added 2 catches out of the backfield for 25 yards. A great start for Tommy against a pretty weak squad. He was named one of the many players of the week for week one! Good start for Tommy.
Tommy Sherwood weekly statistics
1 - vs Arkansas State (W, 49-0) - 28-150 yards, 2 TD // 2-25 yards, 0 TD.

Kingfc22- Yeah, that is going to be a good one. Im about to sim it. As for Sherwood, he is already a great talent but Im not too familiar with TCY as far as guys leaving early. I know those two Georgia guys including the heisman trophy winner Tyrell Phillips decided to stay. How often do studs leave early?
Grid Iron- Wow. Thanks for the nice comments!
Thanks for reading guys.

NCAA Game Spotlights: Week Two
#1 Michigan 22, #6 Notre Dame 16 - 2 OT
What a game this turned out to be. Both teams deserved to win it but in the end the Wolverines win the game and move to 2-0. The game started with an 80-yard touchdown run by Michigan's Nolan Douglass. After that the defenses took over and Notre Dame tied it up with 1:23 left in the game at 13. Both teams came up with Field goals in the first OT. In the second Notre Dame went first and didnt have confidence in their kicker from 50 yards out and went for it. They didn't get it and Michigan's Brian Swift found RB Benson for the winning TD. It was a great game. Unfortunately, both Percy Lyon and Irv Montgomery didn't do anything in the game.
Irv Montgomery weekly statistics
1 - @ #19 Washington (W, 27-0) - 2 rec. 44 yards, 0 TD.
2 - @ #6 Notre Dame (W, 22-16) - 0 rec. 0 yards, 0 TD.

Season Stats: 2 catches for 44 yards and 0 TD.

Season Stats: 2 tackles (1 assist), 0 sacks, 0 INT, 0 defensed passes.
Health: Good
Notre Dame Record: 1-1
Notre Dame Ranking: #42
#2 Miami 56, San Jose State 7
The Miami Hurricanes win again but it was to a weak opponent. The Hurricanes need to start playing some tougher opponents if they want their unbeaten seasons to get them into a national championship. DE Erik Manning starts the game and has one tackle and an assist in the game. He also hurried the QB once. Riddick Hutt cooled down and managed just one assist on the day.
Erik Manning weekly statistics
1 - vs Utah State (W, 56-14) - 0 tack (0 assist), 0 sacks, 1 block.
2 - vs Southern Methodist (W, 56-7) - 1 tack (1 assist), 0 sacks, 1 hurry.
----------
Season Stats: 1 tackles (1 assists), 0 sacks, 1 blocked pass and 1 hurry.
Health: Good
Miami Record: 2-0
Miami Ranking: #2
#9 Stanford 45, San Jose State 9
Our great RB Tommy Sherwood had another amazing day! He gained 205 yards on 24 carries and scored THREE times, running his season total to five already! His scores were from 67, 8 and 1 yards out. He does it again against a below average run defense but nonetheless this guy is turning out to be pretty good! Stanford falls in the rankings because of the weak first opponents but our Sherwood is among the nations leaders in rushing (3rd in yards and 2nd in TD's). He was among the players of the week once again.
Tommy Sherwood weekly statistics
1 - vs Arkansas State (W, 49-0) - 28-150 yards, 2 TD // 2-25 yards, 0 TD.
2 - vs San Jose State (W, 45-9) - 24-205 yards, 3 TD // 0-0 yards, 0 TD.

NCAA Game Spotlights: Week Three
UCLA 31, #6 Ohio State 21
In a sudden and disappointing change of plans the UCLA coaching staff has made the decision that our Larry Bostic isn't fit to start as a red-shirt freshman and gave the nod to Senior Roderick Parliaman. It might not be all bad for Larry to learn for a year behind the senior Parliaman who had a nice game in a huge situation as the Bruins beat the #6 Ohio State Buckeyes 31-21. Parliaman was 16-for-23 for 206 yards and 2 TD's. Very efficient. He was awarded as one of the players of the week.

The Hurricanes win again as our Erik Manning had two tackles in the game. The Canes keep rollin' along and they keep winning and could have a shot at a National Championship this season. This is a quality road win for them and Manning still without a sack is still in the starting lineup, which is good.

When I saw this score I almost puked! 80 points, Tommy had to of had a HUGE day. In fact he only played one half of the game and had just 12 carries for 82 yards and 3 TDs! Again, a nice day. Could've been huge. The backup Kurt Mathews had 26 for 99 and a score. Big win for the Cardinal but they don't move up in the rankings. Sherwood was a player of the week for the 3rd strait week and now 4th in yards and has the most rushing TD's of any player in the nation!

Whoever is scheduling UM's games needs to be fired. It's nice and good to play top teams early, but don't blow the chance at the title before the Big 10 begins play. The conference schedule is tough by itself.

The scheduler doesn't need to be fired; he needs to be taken out back and shot. The team starts the year at #19, then at #6, and now home against #6? Five other Big Ten teams are currently ranked in the Top 25. Talk about strength of schedule!

Michigan will get my official bet for this years national champion! They are just dominating and remember I predicted the Georgia title run last year. A disappointing loss for the Bruins as they fall for the 1st time this season in an amazingly exciting game that featured 6 overtimes and in the end it was UCLA FB Vince Janto's inability to get in for the 2 point conversion that lost it for the Bruins. Our Larry Bostic held the clipboard for the whole thing. Starting QB Roderick Parliaman sure did his job in the game as he went 22-for-32 for 366 yards, 4 TD and 0 INT.

I'm impressed with the work you're putting into this, and keeping it going. Most dynasties would have died off by now! Keep up the good work.
Looks like Tommy might want to sue the NFL to be able to be drafted early. :)

NCAA Week Seven Game Spotlights
#1 Michigan 21 vs #17 Wisconsin 14
Irv Montgomery has been non-existent for 4 weeks and almost three full quarters of this one but he showed up with a bang! With the Wolverines down 14-13, Irv came up with a huge 78-yard touchdown reception!! QB Brian Swift was uncharacteristically bad in this one. He was just 12 of 26 for 279 yards, 1 TD and 4 interceptions. That says a lot about this Michigan team when they can play this bad and find a way to still win the game.

The Hurricanes get a nice win at home over the Mountaineers. DE Erik Manning started his sixth game of the season but only recorded one assist. Disappointing. Tommy Sherwood is amazing! On this day he leads the Cardinal with 25 carries for 128 yards (5.8 average) and two more touchdowns! He had a long run of 27 yards and even caught one pass for seven yards and scored on that play! Mr. Sherwood is now ranked 5th among rushers in yards and 3rd in touchdowns in the whole nation, as a red-shirt freshman. Just a great start. Next week he has a real test against one of our other teams, UCLA. Should be fun. He was again named a NCAA player of the week. The Cardinal are now ranked #12 in the nation.

NCAA Week Eight Game Spotlights
#9 Iowa 7 @ #1 Michigan 33
The Wolverines keep that #1 ranking with a big 33-7 victory over a top ten team in Iowa. Irv Montgomery decided not to show up for this one but made the most of his one rush on the day picking up 21 yards! No catches and he wasn't even targeted. QB Brian Swift came back to his normal self going 15-of-23 for 177 yards, 3 TD and 0 picks. He added 16 rushes for 43 yards. Senior wideout Ben Ellard stole the show again with 6 catches for 104 yards and 2 TD's. Hopefully our boy Irv is looking up to and learning from this Ellard guy.

#14 UCLA 33 @ #12 Stanford 14
The Bruins come up huge and hand Stanford thier first loss of the season. UCLA is the first team to figure out our stud running back Tommy Sherwood who was held to just 16 carries for 66 yards and no scores. The Cardinal were forced to pass late in the game and abandoned the running game looking to close the gap. Sherwood did score the first touchdown of the game as he caught a 10 yards touchdown pass to put the Cardinal on top but the couldn't hold the advantage. Our UCLA QB Larry Bostic got some more mop up time and completed one of one passes for 10 yards and ran once of -1 yard. The Bruins were led by RB Rodney Tucker, who is having a nice season, with 130 yards and a couple of touchdowns. This is the first week Tommy was held under 100 yards, didn't score a rushing TD. He did, however, still get a player of the week award.

#28 Notre Dame 55 @ Troy State 7
The Irish continue to climb their way back into things and with this blitzing of Troy State the club moves into the top 25 at #22. Our guy CB Percy Lyon is making a solid contribution to the team despite being the #4 defensive back. He manages 2 tackles and one was for a loss in the game. He was involved in 12 run plays and 13 pass plays which is the most this season for him. ND was lead by their stellar quarterback Joel Johnson who was 14-of-17 for 220 yards, 3 TD and 0 picks. Good win for the Irish and welcome back to the top 25. All five teams are there now.

#6 Miami 35 @ Temple 30
The Temple Owls were that close to catching the mighty Hurricanes looking ahead. Erik Manning and crew gave up 30 points to a weak offense but managed to keep the victory. Manning didn't do much after starting his seventh game this season and managing only one measley tackle and a hurry of the quarterback. Meanwhile, fellow red-shirt freshman Riddick Hutt had 2.0, giving him 5.0 and Junior Fred Wuerffel managed 3.0 and now has 8.0! I wonder how Erik is still getting starts. He won't unless he picks up his game. The Hurricanes move back to #5 in the coaches poll. Where will they be in the all important BCS?

NCAA Week Nine Game Spotlights
17 Stanford 29 @ #19 Oregon 42
The Cardinal defense lets up and the Ducks blitz them for 42 points. Tommy Sherwood had his worst day of his career with 23 carries for 100 yards and no scores. He added 2 catches for 24 yards and didn't score in that dept. either. It's pretty good when we are in week nine and it is the first time he has gone a whole game without a score and wasn't named player of the week all season. He continues a good season but the Cardinal have lost two strait and fall out of the top 25. Tommy is now ranked 4th in the nation in yards (1,060) and tied for 4th in TD's with 14! Still awesome.

The Wolverines (again, my pick for this years national champ!) wins again on the road over the Golden Gophers. QB Brian Swift had another nice game but didn't find our Irv Montgomery. Swift was 18-for-27 for 235 yards, 3 TD and 0 picks. He found his favorite target Ben Ellard six more times for 111 yards and a TD. Junior tight end Max Skidmore caught 3 passes for 32 yards and the other two touchdowns. Irv, who we could say has been a disappointment this season, was targeted twice but Swift just couldn't get him the ball either time.

**Continuing to follow the amazing story of Virginia Tech runningback Matthew Vanden Bosch, he had another day with 43 carries for 258 more yards and a TD. He now has 1,481 yards (1st) and 19 TD (1st) in just seven games! The 2nd place guy is Kansas State's Randy Levine who has 1,434 and has played one more game than Vanden Bosch. Ohio State's Ray Wiggins is the only guy with a chance at catching him with a solid 1,317 and seven games played with 14 TD's. Can you say Heisman?
**Another developing story. It seems some of our recognizable quarterbacks are having nice seasons. Roderick Parliaman, leading the UCLA Bruins and the mentor of our QB Larry Bostic is ranked 2nd in the nation with a 181.6 passer rating. Notre Dame's Joel Johnson is 3rd with 180.7 and Stanford's QB Erik Cunningham is being overshadowed by teammate Tommy Sherwood but is ranked 6th with a 173.6.

I wouldn't say the Wolves have it easy here. Penn State upset them last year to end their run and they could do it again. Then they have to go to Ohio State who would absolutely LOVE to end their chances this season.
#2 UCLA Bruins
> week 12: vs. Oregon State
> week 13: vs. #14 USC
The first one should be a cake walk for Roderick Parliman and the Bruins but then they host the USC Trojans that could decide their fate!
#3 Florida State Seminoles
> week 12: vs. #30 Maryland
> week 13: @ #49 North Carolina State
> week 14: vs. #20 Florida
The Noles shouldn't have too much trouble with the first two of these opponents but that game against Florida could kill them. UCLA has one loss and if Florida State wins all three of these games I could see them in the national championship game.
#4 Miami Hurricanes
> week 12: @ #31 Pittsburgh
> week 13: vs. #19 Virginia Tech
A couple of tough ones for Erik Manning and the Miami team whose strength of schedule has killed them almost as much as the loss to Boston College. They would probably be around the same place without that loss, but who knows. They will have a strong case if they can stop Va Tech's Matthew Vanden Bosch from running wild on them! Ahem...Erik...do your job!
------------------------------------------------
Let's take a close look at the amazing numbers put up by Virginia Tech's phenomenal running back Matthew Vanden Bosch. Matt is a Junior from Richmond, VA and is, well, amazing. Here is a look at freshman, sophomore and this year so far:
Year Team GS Att Yards Avg TD
2003 Virginia Tech 11 291 1,481 5.0 16
2004 Virginia Tech 10 253 1,450 5.7 17
2005 Virginia Tech 9 275 1,879 6.8 24
Pretty amazing. This guy will win the Heisman (or should) running away! He has added 26 receptions for 375 yards and six TD's (one TD his first two seasons). The 2nd place guy is Ohio State's Ray Wiggins with 1,524 and the 2nd guy in touchdowns is Maryland RB Irv Stevens with 18! Now you may ask who holds the single-season rushing records for this universe?
As of right now he is 4th in yards behind Allen Bernstein (Ohio State) 2,081 , Joe Applin (Arkansas) 1,972 and Ronald Marincic (Stanford) 1,964.
He is tied for 2nd already in TD's with 24 behind just Joe Applin (Arkansas) who has 25. 1st overall pick Ike Barton (Colorado State) also had 24 in 2004.
He needs just 202 yards to get first place. I would be surprised if he didn't get that in his next game. His final two games of the season are against our Erik Manning and #4 Miami (17th against the run) and Virginia (56th against the run). Should be fun to follow this guy as well.
Just to add to this...Since we started this universe which is almost three years old now he holds the following career records: Rushing attempts, Rushing yards, Rushing Touchdowns, All-Purpose Yards and Total Touchdowns scored. Nobody is even close in any of them.

Two things after reading everything...did Allen Bernstein(RB from ohio state who is only 2,000+ rushing season right now) ever get drafted...i couldnt find his name on the list despite finishing second in the heisman voting last year...
Second, about maybe Sherwood is the guy to go after Vanden Bosch...hes doing better right now then Bosch did as a frosh(but less carries)...hopefully sherwood will challenge this lofty goal!

Blade- Thanks for the good questions. The reason you didn't find Allen Bernstein on the draft transcript is because he wasn't drafted!? I guess he just doesn't fit the mold of the NFL back. Finishing 2nd in the heisman should guarantee something. He was picked up by the Oakland Raiders after the draft and was released soon after. He has decent ratings and should catch on somewhere. I will keep an eye on that.
Secondly, I don't see our Tommy Sherwood getting to that point, although he definately could! He has 1,104 rush yards this season and 14 TD. He also has 157 receiving yards and two more scores. He could match Vanden Bosch's 1st year marks with 377 yards and two TD's in his final two games. He could also make up for some of that in the following years and Matt's 2nd season wasn't too much better than his first.
What's scary is Matt is only a Junior and has one more year to tear things up (if he doesn't leave) and I get the impression that not too many people leave early in TCY. Anyway that would be fun to follow as Tommy's career develops. We definately need him to stay healthy!
Another sim coming soon...

well, matt did miss only play 10 games his sophmore year, assuming that he was inured shortly...and thats too bad about berstein...if you run for 2,000 yards i would think you would get a better look in the pros...

UPSET SATURDAY
#4 Miami 29 @ #31 Pittsburgh 39
The Hurricanes bite the dust for the 2nd time this season and this time at the hands of Big East rival Pittsburgh Panthers. Pitt jumped out to a lead and blitzed the Canes all day long and got out of there with a win. That will officially end any thought of Miami sneaking into the National Championship game. They fall to #10 in the coaches poll with the loss. As for Erik Manning he mananged four tackles in the game.

In a sudden change of events the Wolverines perfect season comes to an end at the hands of the Nittany Lions, again. Is this one loss enough to knock Michigan out of the race for the National Championship? We will find out.
With 5:14 left in the 4th quarter and Michigan up 21-13, Penn State halfback Dave Bohannan returned a punt 95 yards!! The Lions went for the tie and the Wolves held strong. So 21-19 with 5 left. The Lions got a stop and with :04 left on the clock, kicker Harvey Lang delivered the punishing blow from 52 yards out to put State up 22-21! What a game it was.
Irv Montgomery was targeted twice, he caught one for 9 yards and dropped the other one.
The loss didn't hurt them in the coaches' poll they are still #1.

#35 Stanford 20 @ #14 USC 17
The Cardinal come back in strong form and win at USC!! Our Tommy Sherwood was tired of losing and tired of getting shut down. Today he has 32 carries for 186 yards, no TD's but did catch two more balls for 22 yards and scored the games first TD on a 11 yard toss from QB Erik Cunningham. It is a proven fact that if Stanford is in a position to give Sherwood the ball 25+ times they will win the game. Add another player of the week to his list and the Cardinal move up 5 spots to #30.
Tommy now needs 191 yards in his final game to match Matthew Vanden Bosch's yards totals from his first season.

While all the other teams were losing the Bruins just killed the Beavers. Roderick Parliman had an amazing game going 26-for-35 for 356 yards, SIX (6) TD's and ZERO (0) interceptions! Wow. That puts him at #1 in passer rating with 193.1! Larry Bostic didn't get in on this one as UCLA is looking to keep that #2 spot and a Florida State loss would help them out, but they are playing Maryland so that is a long shot.

**Where has Lee Tubbs been? Remember last year when he finished 3rd in the Heisman and led the Bulldogs to a National Championship. How about WR Tyrell Phillips who won the Heisman, how did he do in this game. He had 130 yards and 2 TD's. He played second fiddle to other WR Donnie Wadley who caught FIVE TD passes in the game!

>>Our two Michigan and UCLA are still up there at #1 and #2. They are tied for #1 and Oklahoma is the only team that is really that close. Florida State is just about out of it and Nebraska has a lot to make up. Keep in mind the Cornhuskers still have the Big 12 Championship game against Oklahoma (#3 BCS) or Texas (#9 BCS). That could have some impact. The Sooners beat the Huskers 13-10 at Nebraska earlier this season and Nebraska has to go to #29 Colorado while the Sooners have Oklahoma State at home left. If UCLA and Michigan win their final games we will have a guaranteed Champion!
NEXT WEEK:
#1 Michigan @ #22 Ohio State - Well, Penn State did their jobs by beating them and now the Buckeyes can officially eliminate them with a win over them now. That would be huge.
#10 Miami vs. #19 Virginia Tech - The Canes are out of it but this would be a nice win and they get a chance to shut down Matt Vanden Bosch (good luck).
#24 Notre Dame vs. #21 USC - A solid game that should be fun to watch. Little bearing on anything bowl related.
#30 Stanford - Idle
#8 UCLA - Idle

The champions from the past two seasons meet up and the Vols go into Georgia and beat the Dawgs!
#6 Nebraska 34 @ #29 Colorado 40
The Cornhuskers knew they wouldn't be able to walk over the Buffs in Colorado. The Buffaloes beat them 40-34 and end any hopes of a National Championship.
#3 Florida State 27 @ North Carolina State 24
Still stunned from the loss a week ago, the Seminoles almost do it again at NC State. They get away with a 3 point win and hope for the best.
#1 Michigan 20 @ #22 Ohio State 3
The Wolverines find a way to go into the Buckeyes house and win a HUGE game. They are now in the National Championship game.
The Buckeyes would do anything to make sure Michigan doesn't win the big game and they did just that. They blitzed Michigan quarterback Brian Swift early and often, hitting him three times in the first seven plays. They hit him especially hard on one play and knocked him out of the game! In fact, he left with a sprained back and it is very unlikely that he will be able to play in the Fiesta Bowl for the national championship!!! The backup Vernon Poston is an inexperienced and flat out mediocre QB from New York. He is a red-shirted sophomore and was thrown into the fire at Ohio State. He handled it just fine going 13-of-23 for 148 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. Is he good enough to win for them in the big game?!
Irv Montgomery did nothing in this game.

The Hurricanes have packed it up this season. They disappoint at home in their final game of the season and lose to the Hokies. Matthew Vanden Bosch had a decent day but it could've been a lot worse. He had 47 carries for just 135 yards (a 2.8 average) and one TD. He did add 5 catches for 81 yards and another score in the game. More on him later. Erik Manning had six tackles and one assist in the game, he tackled Vanden Bosch four times behind the line of scrimmage. In fact, the Hurricanes "stuffed" him 17 times in the game. They end their regular season at 8-3 and now will play in a bowl game.

How about this win for the Irish. They have turned it on after losing three games this season and it's good to see. They embarrass the Trojans of USC who have now lost three in a row and will play UCLA next weekend. Percy Lyon didn't do much with just one tackle but he enjoyed the season ending victory over USC very much! The Irish now await a bowl appearance.

NEXT WEEK:
#1 Michigan - Finished. Awaiting National Championship opponent, without stud QB Brian Swift.
#6 UCLA - vs. #25 USC - The Trojans have lost two in a row and the Bruins hope to make it three as a win would put in the great position to hold on to that #2 spot and a chance to play for it all!

#20 Notre Dame - @ #9 Boston College. A good game and the Irish could get as far as the top 15 with a win and a nice bowl appearance.
#33 Stanford vs. #50 California. Tommy Sherwood has one more game to run up some numbers and the Cardinal looking to get a bowl bid still.

Oklahoma Wins Big XII; Will Play for National Championship
The Oklahoma Sooners, on the heels of their 31-24 Big XII Championship win over Nebraska move ahead of the UCLA Bruins and will play Michigan for it all!
The Oklahoma Sooners (11-1) came out of nowhere in the BCS and now have a good chance to win a national championship. Their win over Nebraska in the all important Big XII championship game gave them just enough to sneak ahead of the now dejected UCLA Bruins.
UCLA (10-1) feels that with an added game they would be playing for it all. Quarterback Roderick Parliman was the highest rated passer all season and now he settles for an Orange Bowl game against Oregon (10-1).
The Fiesta Bowl will be highlighted by the absence of Michigan star quarterback Brian Swift, who is injured and will not play. The title hopes reside totally on inexperienced backup Vernon Poston. The Wolverines will most likely look to run the ball a fair amount and keep the powerful Oklahoma offense off the field.
Should be a great Fiesta Bowl and we will have a new champion for the 3rd strait year.

Our guys' Bowl games:
#1 Michigan vs. #4 Oklahoma - Fiesta Bowl (National Championship) - Tempe, AZ
Our Irv Montgomery has a change to play in a national championship game and make an impact. Without their starting QB Brian Swift he may need to step up and make some plays. This is one of our guys' first chances to pick up a national championship ring. That would be sweet.
#8 Oregon vs. #5 UCLA - Orange Bowl - Coral Gables, FL
Our Larry Bostic is disappointed they aren't playing in the big one but starting QB Roderick Parliman wants to go out in style and show the pollsters and the BCS that they deserved it.
#26 Stanford vs. #19 LSU - Capital One Bowl - Orlando, FL
Tommy Sherwood has one last chance to shine on the national stage as his Stanford Cardinal earn a very respectable bowl bid in the Captial One Bowl.
#9 Texas vs. #11 Miami - Holiday Bowl - San Diego, CA
Erik Manning and the Hurricanes didn't finish off the regular season too well but have a chance to change all that with a win in the Holiday Bowl.
#45 Texas A&M vs. #15 Notre Dame - Houston Bowl - Houston, TX
Our DB Percy Lyon and the Irish go to Texas where the Aggies will have more fan support but the way Notre Dame has been playing, they will need a lot more than that.

That means there are some battles going on for the final playoff spots.

Sherwood Leads Cardinal to Captial One Win!
The odds were stacked against the Stanford Cardinal against the LSU Tigers. The only hope the underdog would have in this game is if their defense finds a way to slow down the high-powered Tigers and they could rely on freshman running back Tommy Sherwood to carry the load.
Sherwood came through.
The first score came with 6:06 left in the first quarter when Sherwood pranced in from six yards out. After the Cardinal defense stood tall again, Sherwood, again, found paydirt, this time from 26 yards out.
The Cardinal found themselves up 17-0 after a Kerry Robinson field goal was good.
At the half it was 17-7 Stanford and they knew they needed to control the ball in the second half if they were to win the game.
On the first play of the second half, Sherwood carried the ball for 20 yards, then 7, then 14 more. He would later score from 11 yards out and at the 11:11 mark in the 3rd quarter Sherwood already accumulated 176 yards and three touchdowns.
The LSU Tigers got close again with another TD pass but that 10 point deficit would be as close as they would come.
Stanford QB Erik Cunningham threw two more TD passes to seal the deal as the Stanford Cardinal won the Capital One Bowl 41-14!
Sherwood's final statistics were 29 carries for 205 yards and the three touchdowns! Cunningham, a senior, finished his career with a very solid performance going 7-for-12 for 146 yards, 2 touchdowns and zero interceptions!
-------------------------
What a way to end the season, Mr. Sherwood! I have a feeling some awards may be headed his way.

Tubbs, a senior, was 21-for-30 with 325 yards and 5 TD's. Phillips caught 8 of those passes for 129 of those yards and three of those scores! Phillips has one more year of eligibility. Will he come back?
Sun Bowl:#15 Penn State (8-4) 13, vs #46 Washington (7-5) 29
>>Washington RB Marco Bellamy was unstoppable in this one as the Huskies pull of the upset. He ran the ball 39 times for 275 yards and three TD's.
NEXT WEEK:
Sugar Bowl: #2 Florida State (10-1) (-2) vs #3 Tennessee (11-1)
Orange Bowl: #9 Oregon (10-1) vs #6 UCLA (10-1) (-7)
>> Larry Bostic will get a lot of experience watching senior QB Roderick Parliman do this thing as the UCLA Bruins, feeling like they got snubbed from the Fiesta Bowl, look to beat the 10-1 Oregon Ducks, the team responsible for it. Back in week nine the Ducks beat the Bruins in overtime 53-51! REVENGE is on the minds of the Bruins.
>> The Sugar Bowl should be another great game.

2005 Sugar Bowl
The Tennessee Volunteers, champions just two years ago enter the 2005 Sugar Bowl with a record of 11-1 and are pitted against 10-1 Florida State. The coaches poll has the Vols at #3 and Seminoles #2.
It was a hard-hitting affair and it all started with Tennessee running back Edwin Perez scoring from 8 yards out to put the Vols up 7-0. The Seminoles' runner Tyrus Davison matched that score with a 3-yard scamper of his own to deadlock the game at 7-7.
That was all the scoring of the 1st half.
Mid-way through the 3rd quarter the Vols broke the tie as QB Stephen James found Wayne Tate from 3-yards out. A Florida State field goal ended the 3rd quarter with the Vols up 14-10.
The Vols went up again as their defense found a way to score. LB Quentin Ashton returned a fumble 41 yards to the house to put Tennessee up 21-10. The never-say-die Seminoles came back with QB Lorenzo Fitch finding Calvin Moss for a 28 yard strike and the successful two-point conversion brought it within a field goal.
To answer that, the Volunteers moved down the field and managed a field goal to put them up six points to at 24-18. The Seminoles couldn't answer and the Vols won the game.
Tennessee RB Edwin Perez picked up player of the game honors with 22 carries for 103 yards and that big opening score.
Final Score: Tennessee Volunteers 24, Florida State Seminoles 18.
Sugar Bowl history:

2004 Michigan 45, USC 0
2003 Georgia 17, Oklahoma 10
2005 Orange Bowl
In one of the most anticipated games all season the UCLA Bruins looked for sweet revenge on their PAC 10 rival Oregon Ducks for keeping them out of the National Championship game. The Ducks defeated the Bruins 53-51 earlier in the season and cost them the undefeated season. They look for revenge while the Ducks look to prove that they deserved to win that game back in week eight.
Oregon QB Scottie Shepard left no doubt early that the Ducks were just plain a superior team. They jumped out to a 21-0 lead early behind two of his touchdown tosses.
UCLA QB Roderick Parliman rallied the troops to score one of their own on a 13-yard strike to WR Marty Beyer. That was followed by two more Scottie Shepard passes that all but put the Bruins out of the game. Before the half, Shepard had four touchdown passes and had his Ducks up 35-7! Parliman and the Bruins scored just before half to make the halftime score 35-14.
Shepard and the Ducks didn't let up and he finished his college career with an amazing performance: 21-of-34 for 273, 6 TD's and no interceptions! Wow.
UCLA's Parliman ends his career with a 15-for-27 day for 292 yards, 3 TD's and one interception.
The two quarterbacks end the season #2 and #3 in the passer rating category on the season. Shepards performance moved him ahead of Parliman with a 189.5. Roderick ends with a 188.0. Both were stuck behind more than efficient Notre Dame QB Joel Johnson who posted a 192.3.
We may see these two names again when the race for the Heisman trophy begins.
Final Score: Oregon Ducks 55, UCLA Bruins 21.

Denver (12-6) 38, at Cleveland (10-7) 13
>> The Broncos go into the Dawg pound and beat up on the Browns to move on to the AFC Championship game. QB Jake Plummer was an amazing 20-for-24 for 238 yards and three touchdowns!
New England (11-7) 20, at Jacksonville (11-6) 31
>> The Jaguars beat the Patriots behind QB Byron Leftwich's 237 yards and two TD tosses. TE Bubba Franks caught 11 passes for 93 yards and a TD. The Jags will move on to play the Broncos for the right to play in the Super Bowl!
Green Bay (11-7) 38, at Arizona (10-7) 28
>>How about Brett Favre and the Green Bay Packers? They just keep one movin in the right direction. The Arizona Cardinals had a remarkable season and a quick turn around but the Pack was too much for them on this day. Favre threw 3 TD's to bury them in the desert.
New York G (11-7) 23, at Philadelphia (12-5) 17

Super Bowl Set!
The Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Giants have won their respective conferences and earn the right to play for the Super Bowl!
The Jacksonville Jaguars utterly dominated the Denver Broncos 33-0 at home and won the AFC Championship. Jag quarterback Byron Leftwich threw for 160 yards and three touchdowns while committing no turnovers as the stout Jaguar defense put the Broncos away.
In the NFC, the New York Giants and suprise quarterback Brian Griese are going back to the big game. A Tiki Barber 10-yard run sealed the deal as the G-Men beat the Packers in the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field, 24-14.
Griese, the same guy the Giants fans criticized after the organization let go of popular QB Kerry Collins (signed with Carolina) and put their faith in Griese who played in 2003 with the Miami Dolphins and then the Panthers last year.
It was basically a trade and now the Giants are reaping the benefits. Collins and the Panthers didn't make the playoffs while Griese started 12 games and has led his team to the Super Bowl.
The Giants are 2 point underdogs in the game.

So the Championship games are set:
2005 Super Bowl: Jacksonville Jaguars vs. New York Giants
2005 Fiesta Bowl: Michigan Wolverines vs. Oklahoma Sooners

2005 FIESTA BOWL
The Michigan Wolverines and the Oklahoma Sooners are ready to do battle in the 2005 version of the Fiesta Bowl. Both teams have battled through tough regular seasons and now this one game will decide which team is going home a champion.
The Wolverines were expecting to be without star senior quarterback Brian Swift. In a last second change, the doctor cleared Swift to play and while he may not be 100 percent for the game, he remains Michigan's best option.
Michigan needs to run the ball and play good defense if Swift can't lead the way like he normally would. Oklahoma features a nice balance of offense and defense but their defense wins them games.
The stage is set...the introductions have concluded, the smoke from the fireworks is slowly clearing and it's time for the nation to tune into the opening kickoff of the biggest college football game of the season...
Michigan gets a stop on the first possession and Brian Swift enters the field of play to a heroic applause from Michigan faithful. His first pass was all but heroic, an interception.
The defense agains stops the Sooners and then Swift is clearly rattled as he throws his second interception in as many series'. This one was returned for a touchdown and the Sooners went up 7-0!
On the next drive the Michigan offense still looks out of sync as they are stopped and forced to punt. The Michigan defense continues to do their job as they force a punt just as the 1st quarter comes to a close.
Just as things couldn't get any worse for the Wolverines, they get a nice 13-yard completion annulled due to an unnessesary roughness call. Swift finally finds his groove and his favorite target wide receiver Ben Ellard and ties the game at 7-7.
After all that the Wolverines are still in the game!
The Sooners sway the momentum back their way as they perform a sustained drive that culminates in a rushing touchdown by Carl McDaniel.
Ben Ellard fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Oklahoma capitalized when their quarterback Kerry Daniels found McDaniel for a 10 yard pass play.
All of the sudden it's 21-7 Sooners. It may just not be Michigan's day.
Just as quickly as things go south for the Wolves, they get a field goal and then they pick off Daniels and return it 74 yards to cut the lead back to 21-17! That is how it stands at half-time. What a first half.
The 3rd quarter began with both teams getting a stop, Oklahoma first and then Michigan. On Michigan's next drive they found a way to just work their way down the field, take a lot of time off the clock and McClay nailed a 38-yard field goal to make it a 21-20 game! The 3rd ended with the Sooners driving...
The Sooners were faced with a 3rd and 10 and got 9 of the yards needed. They went for it on 4th and one and got four yards! Daniels then found Mickey Witt from 7 yards out to put the Sooners up 28-20.
McClay kicked a huge 46-yarder to keep the Wolves in the game at 28-23. 6:21 left and Michgan needs a stop.
3rd and 9 at the Michigan 43 yard line and 4:22 left on the clock. The pass from Daniels is deflected and incomplete! The punt goes out of bounds at the Wolverine 5 yard line.
The stage is set. Who will step it up big time. The Wolverines come out still running the ball a little bit and Swift gets a 16 yard completion to TE Brett Woodward down to the Oklahoma 43 yard line and 1:03 left.
On the next play Swift looks deep...heaves it into the end zone and it is...

A ton of talent out there especially at the quarterback position. The past winners include: RB Derek Rice (USC) and WR Tyrell Phillips (Georgia).
The guy we followed all year, and my pick to win it this year is Va Techs RB Matthew Vanden Bosch. What a year he had! He finished 2nd behind Tyrell Phillips last year.
Georgia quarterback Lee Tubbs is back for another run at it after finishing 3rd last year behind Vanden Bosch and teammate Phillips.
Should be a good one...
And on to the winners...in one of the closest races of all-time...
"In 5th place, with a total of 108 votes is Georgia quarterback Lee Tubbs!"
"In 4th place, with 112 votes is Matthew Vanden Bosch the great Virginia Tech runner"
"Taking 3rd place this season is UCLA QB Roderick Parliman, who accumulated a total of 117 votes."
"In 2nd is Oregon quarterback Scottie Shepard with 119 votes."

SHERMAN JENSEN, the great LSU Quarterback whose 120 votes wins it all by one vote!
Jensen had an amazing season, going 298-for-482 for 4,584 yds, 43 TD and just 10 interceptions!
So, Vanden Bosch doesn't win it this year but he still has one year of eligibility to win people over. He actually led the voting the whole time (got my vote) with Roderick Parliman just behind him. Then all of the sudden both Jensen and Shepard jumped into the mix and Jensen one by one vote.

mtaystl03

SUPER BOWL XXXX
The Jacksonville Jaguars meet the New York Giants in Super Bowl XXXX. All of the anticipation has boiled down to the kickoff and here we go...
The Giants set the tone early with a defensive stop of the powerful Jaguar offense. The punt, however, was downed at the Giants' one-yard line! They were then stopped and the Jaguars received the punt and returned it all the way to the New York 21 yard line!
They would settle for a Seth Marler 31 yard field goal to put the Jags up 3-0. On the next possession Giants QB Brian Greise was intercepted by Deltha O'Neal and returned it to the 19. Fred Taylor capped off the drive with a 3 yard TD run and made it 10-0 Jags.
The Giants finally got the ball moving towards the end of the opening quarter but K Jeff Reed missed a 48 yard field goal to the right. That ended quarter one.
The Jaguars again took advantage of good field position and QB Byron Leftwich found Fred Taylor on a screen pass and he walked into the end zone from three yards out to give Jacksonville a commanding 17-0 lead. That was the score at half time and the G-Men knew they needed to get back into it quick.
Both teams started out with punts and then the Giants muffed the fourth punt of the half only to see Jacksonville jump on it and take over possession in great field position (again). Marler nailed his second field goal of the day from 39 yards out and that made it 20-0 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
The Giants were driving and Griese threw his second interception of the game to Deltha O'Neal again. They did get on the board late in the game as Griese found rookie Freddie Kravitz from 17 yards out.
That would be all they could muster as the Jacksonville Jaguars dominated and won Super Bowl XXXX!!!
Final score: Jacksonville Jaguars 20, New York Giants 7.

Walt Hudson is a quarterback that had a good season. I wonder to be named Freshman player of the year if you have to be a true freshman. Tommy got a red-shirt so he is a freshman technically. Hudson is a true freshman.
He started 12 games on the season and was 267-for-467 for 3,543 yards, 34 touchdowns and 19 picks. A rating of 136.7.

Rivals.com Top Recruiting Classes of 2005
Looks like four out of the five schools did a great job. Michigan comes in at #2, while Notre Dame is #4, UCLA is 5 and Stanford sneaks into the top 10 at #10. Miami is falling quickly off the map. The Hurricanes ranked #69 in the nation in recruiting. That's bad and Erik Manning isn't going to be happy.

2005 NFL Draft Preview
In this preview I will just note the players that we have mentioned before in this universe and some of the better (or supposed to be anyway) players out there. We will stick to QB, RB, WR for now.
Quarterbacks
Scotty Shepard - Oregon
Scotty is rated 5.2 and is expected to have the best chance to step into a role right away with a team. He should go in the first round.
Sammie Strother - Ole Miss
Sammie is the guy many experts think has the best shot as a long term player in the NFL. He also has a 5.2 rating.
Robert Mirer - Miami
A teammate of our DE Erik Manning, he had a good career with the Hurricanes including 26 TD tosses in his final season there last year.
Kerry Daniels - Oklahoma
Fresh off his leading of the Sooners to a national title he is now looking forward to becoming an NFL player. Not too many scouts are too high on him but he should end up somewhere.
Lee Tubbs - Georgia
Tubbs finished #3 in the Heisman voting two years ago when he led his Georgia Bulldogs to a national title. He isn't a prototypical NFL-style QB but should get drafted.
Erik Cunningham - Stanford
Our RB Tommy Sherwood's right hand man is going to enter the draft. I wouldn't be suprised if he didn't get picked up as the Cardinal were driven completely on the shoulders of Sherwood but some think Cunningham has enough raw talent to make an impact in the league...we shall see.
Sherman Jensen - LSU
The Heisman trophy winner isn't a future NFL QB. He is too short and doesn't fit the mold of the normal NFL guy. He might still get picked up for his leadership skills and raw talent.
Running Backs
Marco Bellamy - Washington
This guy was great last season and should be a damn good NFL back. He will be early in the draft and a team will get a dandy with him. He had 1,800 rush yards exactly last season with 499 receiving yards and 12 TD's. Won Player of the Week a couple of times.
Cory Goodwin - UCLA
A teammate of our Larry Bostic should be another good one.
*Most of the great RB's are still underclassmen and didn't come out.
Wide Receivers
Ben Ellard - Michigan
We mentioned him a few hundred times the past couple of seasons. He was a great wide out for Michigan and our WR Irv Montgomery really looked up to him.
Brenden Nygaard - Michigan
Another teammate of Montgomery that paved the way for him to take over next year. Should be another good one.

NFL Offseason Movement
Some of the bigger names changing scenery include...
OT - Chris Samuels - Seattle
CB - Patrick Surtain - Washington
DT - Marcus Stroud - Green Bay
RB - Jamal Lewis - New Orleans
LB - LaVar Arrington - Buffalo
TE - Randy McMichael - New England
TE - Todd Heap - Oakland
RB - Edgerrin James - Washington
WR - Koren Robinson - New England
WR - Derrick Mason - Seattle
CB - Ty Law - Detroit
WR - Joe Horn - Tennessee
K - Sebastian Janikowski - Buffalo
So it looks like the Washington Redskins are this years big winners in free agency picking up both Surtain and Edge. We will see how that works out for them. Remember, the Panthers went out and spent a bunch of cash but didn't even make the playoffs last year.

2005 NFL Draft
I forgot to copy the draft transcript but basically all you need to know is...
"With the 1st overall pick the Chicago Bears select T Al Stacy from the University of Mississippi"
And the guys we are following...
RB Cory Goodwin the UCLA product went #9 overall to the Baltimore Ravens who look to fill the void lost as Jamal Lewis parted for the New Orleans Saints. Those are some big shoes to fill.
RB Marco Bellamy, Washington's great back went just two spots after Goodwin at #11 to the Carolina Panthers.
QB Scotty Shepard went #20 to the Seattle Seahawks and has already signed a 4-year, 7,390,000 deal.
WR Ben Ellard went to the Denver Broncos in round 4 (24th in that round) and has yet to sign.
All of the others haven't been drafted or signed anywhere, yet.

A Look Back
The 2004 seasons for our guys were much more eventful than when they all say with red-shirts their freshman years. By far the best season was Stanford RB Tommy Sherwood, who ultimately was named to the PAC-10 second-team for his performance.
Here is a recap of the seasons for our five guys...
QB Larry Bostic (UCLA) - Larry spent most of the season behind stud quarterback Roderick Parliman who had a great season. He learned a lot from him as his primary back up and is in line to take over as the Bruins starting quarterback this coming season. The Bruins managed to make it to the 2005 Orange Bowl only to be defeated by the Oregon Ducks for the 2nd time on the season.
Stats: 8-for-16, 138 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 151.1 passer rating // 8 carries, 58 yards, 0 TD.
RB Tommy Sherwood just had an amazing season for the Cardinal, who ended up winning the Capital One Bowl over the favored LSU Tigers. He was named the Pac-10 second-team running back and is in line to have another huge season! He was named player of the week an amazing TEN times! Look at the numbers he put up this season...
Stats: 299 carries for 1,609 yards (5.3 average), 18 touchdowns. 134 yards per game. 67 long. // 19 receptions for 199 yards and 3 more TD's. His longest reception was 30 yards.
WR Irv Montgomery (Michigan) played on the best team out of the five but didn't do much in his first season. He was behind now NFL players and college studs Ben Ellard and Brandon Nygaard. He was non-existent for much of the season but he is expected to step up and have a larger role this season with the Wolverines who look to finally capture that elusive national championship. They lost a heartbreaker to the Oklahoma Sooners last season. He will have stud QB Brian Swift back to throw him the ball this season as well.
Stats: Targeted 16 times, managed 6 catches for 181 yards (30.1 average), 87 long and 1 TD. He had two drops on the season.
DE Erik Manning (Miami) had a pretty weak season for starting every game for the disappointing Miami Hurricanes. He did have the pleasure of playing beside another stud freshman in Riddick Hutt who managed 8.0 sacks on the season. The good news is that the starting job will remain his and he needs to improve on the one sack he registered his opening season.
Stats: 31 tackles (8 assists), 1.0 sack. 10 tackles for loss, 7 hurries and 3 blocks.
CB Percy Lyon (Notre Dame) did a nice job in his limited role for the Irish. He was stuck behind some pretty darn good players but found a way to make at least a small impact. This season he will be either starting or playing a lot. Senior Roderick Jennings will start and he will split time with fellow sophomore and fellow stud Percy Walters. Both Walters and our Lyon had three picks last season with Jennings grabbing four.
Stats: 10 tackles (6 assists), 1 tackle for loss, 3 interceptions, 6 caught on him and he defensed 4 passes.
THAT IS IT FOR 2005!!!
The next installment will continue in another thread. Go there now! (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/showthread.php?p=415375)
