Hi folks,

I've been away from text sports sims for a while and it looks like all the old titles have grown. I guess OOTP and .400 split up. And Total Pro Football is finally out. Championship Manager is so popular now that it has a deal with Sega! Also, FOF has a new version now. I've been messing around with the EASports and Sega sports titles of the world over the last two years and I may not even be able to get back into text sports sims because I've gotten so used to seeing my gameplan play out in real time action. LOL

For those that play a lot of text sports sims, I was curious if you could give me the lowdown of the current sports sims series. Which titles are worth checking out? Have FOF or OOTP been replaced yet by competitors or are they still the benchmark for football and baseball? How are the hoops games now? Last time I played sports sims, Heavy Reign's game were just getting started and the Dynasty college hoops series was probably the most popular.

Which titles should I buy for:

Football
Baseball
Basketball

I'm not really interested in online leagues so multiplayer doesn't matter to me in a game. Any new titles worth owning? Thank you for any advice.

FOF
OOTP

TPF is making good progress IMO. Several patches/updates have been released in the last couple of days which have solidified MP and the major areas where stat tweaks were needed appear to have been addressed. Worth consideration. I'm not really into hoops so can't comment there.

[Edit: Should have paid more attention to the end of the post].

Techinally, CM and Edios spilt, then Sega signed the CM team with a new name.

Fast Break College Basketball is one of the best sport sims around (not just one of the best basketball sims). You should give that a try (Unless you have Win98 or ME, cause it doesn't work real well on those OS's).

FOF2k4 for football
If I say the baseball sim I prefer, this will turn into a OOTP vs. "other baseball sim" thread, so let's just say that OOTP5 is a good game. :)

Yeah I agree Sabotai, I started playing FBCB not even being a huge basketball fan (I like to follow the teams but I don't really get into the minutiae) and now I'm playing it nonstop! Great sim.

Thanks for the input. I was hoping more people would recommend some of the newer titles but I guess they still need work. :( I downloaded FOF5, it's pretty similar to the last FOF version. When I saw that there were custom helmet logo files in the sticky reference thread, I was excited, I thought Jim had finally changed FOF user alterations to resemble OOTP. But it looks like we still can't insert player pics and the helmet pics don't really show up in many windows. :( The FOF series is getting there but it's still not as mod friendly as I'd like. I also see that once again I'm going to have to alter the FOF default rosters and give my Cowboys their just due ratings. :P

Sabotai -- Are you talking about the baseball title designed by the new .400 company? The one that makes Total Pro Baseball? I know you don't want to start a flame war but I'd appreciate it if you could fill me in on the new title because I really have no idea which titles are worth playing these days. I was about to order Total Pro Football before reading the replies in this thread. I checked some of the archives in FOFC, though, and read a thread about TPF patches and someone wrote how they were glad the game finally added awards. :o Sounds like it's still a work in progress because those are the features I expect in the game at launch. I saw the Gamespot.Com review for TPF and it got a pretty good score and I thought the screenshots looked nifty. It looks "perdier" than FOF but I guess it doesn't have all the great features that have been inserted over the years.

No, I was talking about Puresim 2004. :)

(Which is kind of the same. Total Pro Baseball is not out yet. Puresim 2004 was the baseball game that the guy who is doing Total Pro Baseball did before joining up with .400)

Pure Sim is made by Sean Sullivan, who did alot of work on utilities for the old FPSBaseball Pro series.
