Why did he use v1.29?? Isn't TPF at 1.36 or something now?

I can't say anything about the first few sentences otherwise Jim and SkyDog will start calling me names again. ;)

I thought it was a pretty fair review.

Ah,

"Nobody's going to mistake this game for Madden NFL 2004, though it is much more attractive than its closest competitor, Front Office Football 2004."

Those first few sentences are quite a slap in the face.

I honestly disagree about the interface "leading you by the hand." I downloaded the game and could not figure out how to advance to the next stage for 10 minutes.

You're not alone. I never did learn how to advance stages in that game. To be honest I never put that much effort into learning.

well, as soon as I figured it out - I hit the button and the game crashed with a run-time error. I never opened up the game again, left for the weekend, and my trial expired.

Notice the readers' review scores are significantly lower than the reviewer. Perhaps, unlike the reviewer, they actually took the time to deal with the bugs. That's one problem with all these game reviews. They play it for an afternoon and think they have it. Wonder if the reviewer ever wonders why the game needed a version 1.29, instead of reviewing version 1.0 or 1.1?

No, that was further on down (which from what I have heard, is probably not true). I was literally referring to the first few sentences of the first paragraph. But that's just my personal view. FOF, to me, is unplayable as a SP game but TPF is unplayable for entirely different reasons and the fact that I won't buy it yet.

Leonidas, as a reviewer you review the game with the current patch on the market.

...

I thought it was a bit of a slam on FoF as well. Though I really have to agree. Getting into FoF took me a long time. I gave up too soon on the original couple of versions, and it took me finding this community supporting the game to get me to reconsider it. I took the plunge. I had to buy the game, but once I did I got into it. The interface is just brutal. I mean I really like the game, but TPF's presentation blows FoF away. I haven't bought TPF yet, but I really enjoyed the demo. It is missing the AI and certainly a number of features found in FoF, but it does get so much right. I think the review is a bit more glowing than is deserved. The readers reviews are probably closer to appropriate, but I think a bit lower than I would give.

I think it is funny that I consider that the presentation of TPF makes up for so many of it's shotcomings when compared to FoF. My friends make fun of me for completely disregarding graphics as a gaming element. I say I am all about gameplay, but to me the presentation of TPF really makes up for a lot of it's shortcomings.

What I noticed the reader reviews on both gamespot and especially on gamerankings. People are either giving it a 9 or 10 or a 1 or 2. Gamerankings.com shows you how many votes were 10's or 9's or 1 or 2 etc...

i think he meant that the reviewer did not question the fact that the version number was up to 1.29 instead of 1.01 or something, not the fact that he was using the patch
