shit i cant get the hand history. anyway
tonites NLH freeroll tourney at pokerstars

I'm dealt pocket 3's in the big blind.

everyone folds but the small blind, he calls I check.

flop comes J 3 7, rainbow.

He puts all in.
I call. he turns over pocket 7's
I then proceed to lose.
this guy didn't seem very good, I had a couple notes on him, and I really dint think of him having three of kind .
Should I have folded my 3's?

I can't imagine holding a pair of sevens or jacks in the small blind and not raising, so I would definitely call. I'd expect him to have J7 or even J3 or 73.

There's a saying about this. If you don't lose all your money when you have a lower set, then you didn't play the hand correctly. I mostly agree. Tough to get away from a set, especially on a board like that. About all you can do is fold the 3s preflop. Some do that to avoid your situation.

I think you played it well.

That's better than going all in preflop with Ac Kc and getting called by some fool with A 3 offsuit and the same fool catching a 3 on the river for 2 pair. Lovely...

I don't think you can fold on trip 3's in that situation....

This past weekend I played in a house no limit hold 'em tourney over the weekend. $50.00 buy in with a $25.00 re-buy in. Tell me if I played this right......

We played with 10 people and I made it to the final two players. I felt that I was in control of the table for the most part. I had a heavy cheap lead through out the tourney and I knocked 4 (maybe 5) players out. I was catching some good down cards to play with and was bullying people with my chip count compared to theres. That said... Down to the last two and I had A (heart) and 3 (clubs). He doubled the raise before the flop on his small blind and I called him. K (heart) J (heart) and 6 (heart) flopped. He goes all in (we had nearly the same chip count at the time).... thinking how many outs I had I called him!!!! Well, no heart and no A came up and he won on a pair of jacks. Looking back at it I don't know if I would call that again but I did have a lot of outs... what do you'all think?

Thanks for making my poker playing better ;)

It really depends on how much his all in was. I find it hard to believe he would go all-in to take just the big and small blinds. I would've guessed he had a two pair so I would've played it too. Just unlucky.

I also had an extremely weird hand yesterday. I was playing a no limit sit-n-go tourney on Poker Stars. We're down to the final 4. I'm in 3rd, and me and #4 are close in chip count, and pretty far off the top 2.

I'm holding 35 in the small blind, he's in the big blind. everyone folds to us. I call the big blind, and the flop:

3 5 8

I check, hoping he'll make an over-agressive bet on the next hand to steal the pot (as he'd been prone to do). He checks.

turn: Q

I check, he pushes all in. Pretty confident he's on a steal or has no more than 1 pair, I call. He turns over Q 8 and I'm stunned...and about to be busted out.

However, a miracle 3 falls on the river and I win the pot, knock him out, and go on to take 1st place.

I probably misplayed that, but in no limit i think there are way more gray areas...

We both had nearly the same chip count. I only a couple hundred left to his 98 thousand....

I think he's looking for a "relative" chipstack here. Were you guys 1-2 in the tournament? Were you pretty short-stacked compared to everyone else?

Basically, did you need to make a move - or was it an unnecessary risk?

I posted in the initial post that we were the last two people in the tourney. I had the chip lead for the majority of the tourney. The person I was head up with won a pretty big pot to knock someone out to make it head to head. At the time we were going h-h we were about tied....
