Well, what better way to initiate my first Dynasty.
I am currently playing as SS/WR for this Semi-Pro team, and I am also involved with the Offensive development, incuding being the QB coach, and assistant OC.
Our 1st league game is 2 months away, however, several shots have been fired by opposing teams.
Let me bring you all up to date.
Last year, the coaches of the Wolverines and about 15 other players were playing for a team called the Utah Blitz, we lost in the Utah Football League championship game by 2 points. Our D was #1 in the League and ranked 8th in the nation out of 280+ teams.
Well, the owner/coach/qb of the team was an ass, and so people split from the team.
Basically, the Blitz defense formed the Wolverines. The Blitz owner was irate, upset. Then the UFL merged with the Rocky Mountain Football League (RMFL). So the Wolverines had to prepare and propose themselves to the new league. Well, since the owner of the Blitz was part of the board he raised hell, and demanded reparations for players leaving and playing for another team. The league voted, and we were all supposed to pay $95 to the Blitz if we wanted to play for the Wolverines, or go back to the Blitz. This came out to a total of $1800+, for Semi_pro football where we pay to play, and have no contractual agreement. This was shot #1.
Shot #2, the former owner has now stated on his website, that the washing of "us" former Blitz players was needed in order for them to get over the hump and become the top team in the league.
Now, the league has one of the top teams in the nation playing in it, the Rhino-Raiders, who rarely lose, and hold the longest winning streak of 62 games straight. They fire shots almost daily, and are in our conference. They are the team the Blitz lost to last season by 2 points.
Que the beginning of this season. 16 teams, from Utah to Montana, already at each others throats, already looking and claiming they are the best.
The chest thumping is happening, and we are still 2 months away.
This Dyansty, will start with this Fridays practice, and I will relate it all to you, From practice to games throughout the season.
Some information for you all.

Can't get the site to load here from work, no surprise as our internet only works about 15% of the time.
Where you guys located out of? SLC? I might try to swing down and watch one of your games sometime, sounds cool. Where do you guys play at?

Hey Calis, our home field will be Hunter High School.
The Rhino-Raiders play out of Ogden High which is closer to you. And you get to see some talent. That team has enough depth to field 2 teams, and be competitve with both teams. I have heard one of their DB, LB, and DT are going to be playing with the Warriors this season, so it rules them out. Most of the team are former Div 1 and Weber State guys, they have some NFL Campers on their team as well.
Let me know if you do, our first game is at Davis High School I think, against the Davis Vipers.

Meeting of the minds has happened, the offense has been finalized as has the D.
We are looking to shock, and surprise people, Most teams already know about our D, however, the offense they are suspecting is an option, we hate it, and our new QB isn't built for it. He is built like Lorenzen, big, not to quick, but able to stand above the hogs and play toss and catch with our WR's, who have some of the better hands in the league that I have seen so far.
Our defense is a 4-2-5, bringing the SS's up to play like OLB, it allows us to have speedy cover guys to shock the other teams in the supposed mismatch they aim for with the OLB.
More to report after Friday.

Friday Feb 20th
Practice flowed smoothly, our defense is right back where they need be. A well oiled machine. We need to work in some coverages to handle a spread offense.
Really how do you handle it, without pulling LB's and inserting basically a nickel or dime package.
We run a 4-2-5, which we bring 2 SS's and they act like OLB, that way, we can match coverage for coverage instead of getting mismatches.
As for our offense, we have installed a variety of fronts, but our base is a 4 WR set, forcing teams to match up on us, and if they want to cover all our WR's we can run all day on them.
As for our QB's, we picked up a cocky ego led kid, that I doubt will be with us to much longer, the guy we want to start is a protoype QB, 6' 6" and in the mid 200s and he stands above our line which allows him a total downfield vision. He can also move, and roll well. Our other QB is an athlete and will more than likely roll out to WR, and be ready if needed to run the offense.
We did lose one of our Offensive Captains to a broken wrist. He is a WR, and made a play for a long ball, and landed on the turf awkward, and fractured his wrist. The pro is, we have 5 weeks till the season starts, the con is, he will lose a lot of time getting adjusted to the QB.
All in all, the 2nd practice went over well. We are looking at another 5 practices before the season starts, we really need to knock the rust off our offense, or it will be a rough start, and we will lean on our defense to win it.

Cool, I have absolutely no clue where Hunter High is, but the Ogden High would be a lot easier for me to get to anyway. I try to stay away from SLC whenever possible. :) I spend quite a bit of time in Ogden though, have a couple friends that live right by Weber State.
I'm not entirely sure how much longer I'll be here, the days are counting down, but if I'm still here when you guys play in Ogden I'll definitely try to go see it.

Thats great! We like all the fan base possible for the league.
UPDATE
Our one WR is more than likely out till May due to a fractured wrist, and our starting DT is out for a bit due to a shredded finger, and our starting LG is out for a bit due to a car accident. You figured a HOG would be used to it, since the have a car accident every play.

Alright, Saturday practice and it is outside. I have a slight issue with my groin and it keeps me out of suiting up today, which is a good and bad thing as we had some snow dump on us, and it is an outside practice.
Needless to say, as I moved to coach the QB's and WR's, I realized that the wind, would kill me. And it did.
Anyways, we installed some run plays out of our base package, and ran them quite well, still hard to build up without all of our OL there, it's tough. However, the offense marched down on the defense pretty well today, it's nice to see it click, as I know we are already better than the offense we had last year.
As for our defense, what can you say, they are solid, and bring it every play.
Injuries are starting to mount up.
Starting DT - Potentially out for a month, due to surgery on his hand. We find out the extent on the 8th.
Starting WR - It's official his wrist is fractured and in a case and was told at least 6 weeks. So far, that brings him back at the start of the season.
Start RG -One of our big hogs, was in a car accident, and from what I understood today, he is pretty messed up, and is more than likely out for the season.
I will be suiting up on Thursday when we play.

Thursday March 4th.
Ahhh practice, and I finally get to suit up after two weeks of watching and coaching, and boy did it feel good.
Looks like I am competing for a starting SS spot. How long this lasts is anyones guess.
The team is looking really good. The defense is there, we just have to get the second teamers up to speed on it, and get them there, so we don't drop quality in a game when they come in.
Offense is ramping up. When they stick to what our offense is supposed to be, they kick ass, however, when they try to be tricky, and come out of the base, it turns horribly bad.
Our OL, DL, and WR's we need more players for, if not, it looks like a lot of us will be playing both ways.
The Price Outlawz also announced they are folding, which leaves our conference a team short, and the league is scrambling to figure something out.
We lost a RB to a knee injury, thank the lord that we are now outside, balling on the grass, it's a little more forgiving than turf, I feel for the Utes.

March 13th Practice
The team is coming together nicely. Our defense is looking solid, and I truly have to say, that we are up to par of where we were at last year.
One of our new MLB has some solid talent, but is overcoming a foot injury. He was camping with the Dallas Cowboys 2 yrs ago, but in the 2 positions he could play, he had some decent competition which was FB and LB. Obviously he didn't make it. However, he is using our team and league to stay in Football shape. If the NFL calls, you know he will go.
Our OL isn't looking to good right now, but it mainly boils down to the fact that the bulk of them work Nights or Saturdays, and it is really hard to get them there all at the same time, we are going on a massive recruiting campaign to try to pick some more OL/DL up.
Our practice was without pads as our helmets are currently being painted and should be done this week. They will look slick, just like Michigans, except were are Forest Green and Silver.
The spread is working wonders, and if teams go Zone against us, they will be in some serious trouble as our receivers will hit the soft spot. Our RB's, it appears we have 2 of the best in the league, If a team decides to go 6 in the box and match our spread, we will be running all day.
Anyways, it turned out to be a beautiful practice, with the weather playing it for us.
As for myself, SS is feeling good, it is looking like I will be rotating at the right side, starting.
Stay tuned for more, as March comes to a close, our season opener is a month away!

March 22nd Practice.
Helmets were still being painted, and so it was another week of 7 on 7 basically.
We actually had some line show up, not like we need though.
I was moved to Free Saftey, actually bounced around more, from Free to Strong. And did quite well. I just had hands of stone this day, dropping 5 easy pics, and catch the hardest one, an over the shoulder, take it from the receiver type. Not bad, and it impressed the coaches.
Our defense is, tight. I honestly have to say, this will be one of the top defenses in the league, and hopefully ranked right back where we were last season, #8 in the nation.
Our offense needs some work still. Receivers are dropping balls that hit them square in the hands, when we are in pads, it's even worse, due to the fact when they catch a ball, it's with their body, and we just hit them hard enough to force the ball out. However, when the offense is on, they are unstoppable.
Next week we have a scrimmage versus a smaller team in a smaller, newer league. They are friends, and solid players, and from what I understand, this scrimmage is their tryout for our team.
First game of the season is April 17th, and we are closely prepping for it, trying to get everyone on the same page for team philosophy and such.
Our Helmets are supposed to look cool, and I will post a snap shot of mine when I get it tonight or tomorrow.
Anyways, next week, will be a play by play breakdown of our scrimmage.

Wooot!!
Helmet came back from the painter today.
Honestly, this helmet compare to last years teams in the league is one of the best. This has been given 2 to 3 coats of paint, and a lacquer was baked on.
Very slick and very clean. To bad it is going to get dinged up this weekend in our scrimmage. Oh well.

Saturday April 27th.
I couldn’t sleep the night before, even though this was just a scrimmage, the jitters are there. We are earning our starting spots.
The weather for the morning was supposed to be decent, but it ended up doing the combo snow/rain thing for a bit. The team we were playing, not the top in talent, but definitely the top in strength. Basically, it was an all-Polynesian team.
We arrived early so those who had not picked up their helmets were able to get them put together before the scrimmage. Once this was finished we broke off into teams while we waited for the other team to show up.
I am excited; it’s my time to earn the spots I am trying for. I was feeling great, in our DB individual drills, everything was feeling great, the speed was there, the hands were there as well. We then gathered up for Team D. We ran some plays against the Wishbone that the team we would be scrimmaging ran. This is where I enjoy playing the most. You get your wake up hits here, instead of the game. And that was happening. Well, while I was playing scout offense, I ran to block a DE on an option to the left, we collided and his knee came up and caught my thigh, just below the pad, nice and deep. The adrenaline was there, and I though nothing of it. At the end of Team D, we set the Platoons up for subs in the series. I was subbing 2nd series at FS and 3rd Series at SS.
Finally, the other team shows, and we are all chomping at the bit to get out there, and play. Our offense goes first. We have it set. 10 plays on O and 10 plays on D, and we would cycle through several series. Our offense sucked it, most of our OL was spooked, our LT did well, and that was it. Our OL was scared they were pissing themselves; you would think that they were getting raped. Fumbled exchanges between the QB and C were common here, and we left after 10 plays, gaining maybe 7 yards.
As our defense rolls out, we kept our reputation up. They were lucky to gain 5 yard in their 10 plays.
Next set for our offense was a little better. Our QB was able to get the ball off, barely, however, if the WR’s were not running the correct routes, the ball was short. We walked away from here with maybe a total of 10 to 15 yards in 10 plays.
Second series for defense results in me jogging out to play FS only to be pulled back by the coach. He tells me, that he is confident in my knowledge of the position; he wants to give someone else a go. Ok, I am fine with that. Also, now that the adrenaline has left, I can feel the right leg. It is tweaking on me, and I know it’s a deep bruise. It actually hurts to walk. They match our offense in productivity, getting roughly 10 to 15 yards, as they shifted from Wishbone to some passing.
Third series in offense sees our mobile QB being inserted. He actually completed some things and gained some yards, however it was due to him running for his life, and he sustained an injury on his throwing hand. Our OL HAS to get better, or we will lose badly. Defense can only do so much.
Defense, third series, sees me lining up on the left side strong safety spot. They line up in the wishbone, and we are off and running.
The first play is an option to the right side, away from. As I run to cross the field, I get my ass handed to me by their Tackle. He flat out whipped me, and come to find out, he is still a senior (I heard junior) in high school.
Second play, is a dive, and I move to fill the gap. The truck…. I mean FB that comes through runs me over, but I manage to wrap and make the tackle, he gains 3 yards. I know I need to come up faster.
Third play is an option to my side, and they hit the bitch man. His 2 leading blockers try to seal me on the outside. I slip to the inside, forcing the back to the outside. The blockers are still there, and I blow them up, creating a pile in front of the running back, forcing him to bounce out more. Our defense was able to get over, and the play was a 3-yard loss. This is actually a great play for me, and I was happy at how it happened.
Fourth play, they split into a pro set and run a trap towards my side. I catch, or rather the FB catches me right in the whole. I was rocked, but managed to plug the hole with our (FB/Mine) bodies. The back had to take it outside, and our LB speed was able to drop him for a loss. Wow, after this play, I was seeing some serious stars, and man were they pretty. Took me a few seconds to shake them off.
Fifth play, we have a double fire called. It’s a blitz of both SS’s coming off the DE’s outside hip. I come around and am met by a back. I plant to make a move, and my right leg, tweaks in the mud; I lose all strength and go down. Play is a pass to the right, and I had a chance at the QB if it wasn’t for my leg.
I hobble off to the sideline, upset by the fact of my leg. They rotate the teams after 1 play. So it looks like I would have only seen 6 plays there. Anyways.
The next series ends quickly, as both teams started talking smack, and people didn’t like it. Without any officials there, we were able to avoid any fights, and move people on.
We still wanted to play, and rolled right into team scrimmages after the other team left.
I was extremely disappointed; I was only able to play 6 plays. However, the coaches assured me that I do know what I am doing and I will be seeing a lot of playing time at the SS position, and I am an injury away from starting at FS.
Our offense needs work, a lot of it. Mainly the OL, they were manhandled, and we need more hogs up there. Our WR’s must run the right routes. If they run the proper routes, our offense even with a piss poor line, is effective.
Defense, should still be a top 10 squad in the country, and I hope it does go that way.
3 more weeks, and the season starts!

Good luck for the season, looking forward to following this...

I just read all of it today. Your name caught my attention, as, after all, you are still currently hosting my hattrick logo... ;)
The main issue with your dynasty will probably be its relatively slow pace, since by nature you only have 1 game a week. You will probably find it buried in page 2 or 3 all the time...

Saturday April 3rd.
Todays practice was more focused on the offense than we have ever done, and it was much needed. Needless to say, the improvement was 100% compared to past weeks. They finally were able to get the 3 step and 5 step drops going. The completion rate was a lot better than in the past. We did have quite a few dropped passes, and overthrows, that will just take some time to mesh.
As for defense, we were just tossing them junk, 4-3 Cover 2, 4-3 Cover 3, 5-2, and our own 4-2-5 which we blitzed out of, ran Cover 1, Cover 2 and Cover 3.
I played a lot at Strong Saftey, but due to some of our OL/DL not being healthy or just plain old not there, I stepped up and took a beating playing DT. It's all good, anything to help make the OL faster off the snap, forcing them to move against guys that are faster than they are will help a lot come gametime.
Practices are shifting to Wednesday's now, with Games starting on April 17th. We will be running a Wed-Sat-Wed practice Schedule before the game. Our defense is there, and it looks like our offense is on it's way as well.

Dennis, you mentionned in your very 1st post you were playing WR also, as well as SS.
Is that still up to date this year, or is strictly D for you this season ?
MacroGuru
04-05-2004, 07:35 AM
WR will be played on a as needed basis, it all depends. Right now we have a lot of depth but not much talent at the position, however they are improving daily.
I am not the fastest guy out there, but I know how to run a route and read a defense, so I can help the offense out, I just haven't been asked to cross over yet.
So strictly D for now, but it may change after the first game.

Thanks Frogman!
Well, a brief update as of today, I am now in fierce competition for a starting spot at FS.
My competition is actually one of the team owners. However, he is what I call an assassin. He plays the position like he is a Strong Saftey, which weakens himself as what a Free Saftey should be.
I am student of the Free Saftey is your last line of defense. He should be the one to lead your team in INT's. He roams, and pics, if he can't make the pic, then he should make the hit.
An assassin focuses on the hit before the pic. Allowing the deeper yardage, yet getting the "pretty" hit in.
To me, there have been only 2 true assassins ever in the NFL, that have been able to play the position well. Ronnie Lott and Steve Atwater. And this guy is neither.
So the question is, will talent, or politics win out? I am going to give it 110% of my effort to earn my spot. But I am almost willing to bet Politics win. The only positive out of it is. If he is beat, the DC will not hesitate to pull him and put me in. On top of that our defense, the 4-2-5 requires a lot of running, and speed, and everyone tires out, hell we are all old men :) . I know I will be rotating, it's the advantage of our defense. We have talent deep enough at our positions, when we rotate out, we don't lose a step. Honestly, the only other team in our league that can say this is the Rhino Raiders.
Well, stick around. Thursday will be the update for Wednesday Practice.

April 12th
Sorry for the late update, I was bed ridden ill since Mid Afternoon Thursday.
Wednesdays practice was ok. We started late, and were missing some people, which isn't a good sign for us. We need the full team out as we have our first game this Saturday the 17th.
We did pick up a couple of new DL/OL. The new OL were decent in their first practice and may actually end up starting and anchoring us. We also picked up a former USC Trojan from years back by the name of Mike Chance. Guy is an impressive specimen. Big as hell. I just hope he can move that body out at DE.
As for me, I rolled into the FS position and played it for the entire practice. Horrible part is, I started to come down with an illness in the day, and it started to effect me more and more as the practice went on. At one point in time it was hard for me to breath due to the snot and phlegm draining into me.
Our offense is clicking, the base plays are working, and if they continue to work like they are, we will be unstoppable.
Also, the league previews came out today, and we as a new team, are picked to be 3rd overall. I think this is generous, but obviously the commish is impressed with all the talent we have.
Well, Practice is on Wednesday, and you will get 1 more practice update. Then gametime on the 17th.
I will be rotating at the FS/SS positions. As far as PT happens to me, I am happy to rotate, as long as we win.

So you're playing in Ogden this weekend eh? I might see if I can make it up there, although this weekend isn't good. This your only game in Ogden? If it is I'll have to see about scrapping my plans. Would hate to miss out. Football in April! Gotta love that.

We will have our last game of the season up in Ogden. Against the Rhino-Raiders.
This game is up at Ben Lomond High School (in fact, there will be 2 games there) against the Davis Vipers. They are without their true starting QB, and was slaughtered 46-0 by the Boise RoughRiders in a preseason game. Let's hope they can provide a bit of a battle.

Woot new shoulder pads!!
Last year when I started playing, I started in at 230, lost some weight during the season and dropped down to about 215.
I was wearing Douglass Air TAG 150's size 19-20. This season, since I dropped below 200, they are too big. so I dropped down to a tighter fitting pad. The Diamond Stealth. They are QB/WR pads size 17/18. I am taking pure advantage of speed and mobility this year on defense. I have to get across the field from the free saftey position, and If I move up to Strong, I have to be able to avoid the blocks by either getting around them, or not giving them enough bulk to grab on to.
Practice is tonight, I am giddy, Saturday can not get here fast enough, I am already dreaming every night of the game. I truly feel the rotations will happen a lot in this game, and that I will see significant PT at the FS and SS positions.
Generally on Kick off I am a Cover man, I get to make sure no one goes outside of me. So sometimes I don't even get in the play, but a lot of the times, they run to my side. Last year I caused a fumble on the opening kickoff of a very crucial game, this year, I hope to do even better.
Sorry for the update, just excited, the blood is boiling.

04-15-2004, 02:52 AM
Wow, I can tell you, you convey very well the excitement you feel !
Just 1 question re playing cover man, how can you do better than a forced fumble on the opening kick-off ?
MacroGuru
04-15-2004, 09:56 AM
Forcing the fumble every time :D
e exciting aspect of the team. One of our guys might get a shot at Div I. The University of Utah, is pulling a Texas A&M type manuever, and having what is called, the Utah Man. You know, a member of the student body, playing on Kickoff. Well, one of our ILB went out, and truly impressed Ute Head Coach Urban Meyer. As it is looking, John, our ILB, may end up playing for the Utes, but not as a Utah Man, but as a full fledged walk on.
Time to cover Wednesdays practice.
A beautiful evening for football, a small breeze at times, with storm clouds rolling in. Ominous signs? Only for the offense.
For the past 2 months, we have done nothing but collide with each other. Tempers have flared, and honestly, we are sick of beating up on one another. We are thirsty, we want more. This being the case, practices have been a little flat of late. But last night was different.
Our coach, Ed, had that look in his eye, a little bounce in his step. You could hear the excitement in his voice, as he was announcing the goals for the practice.
Breaking into individuals, I could feel the excitement. I could feel the edge, everyone had it. And it was great. Defense was anxious, we wanted to show something to the offense. They challanged us, and had been talking smack all week. Individuals went well, as we were all breaking to the ball fast.
Onto 7 on 7's. The rotations are set up, and I am running with the second rotation at FS. For DB's the rotations honestly do not matter, as we rotate every 4 plays, to keep everyone well rested. We also do not lose much in skill either so we have the ability to rotate.
Well, Offense came out on fire, but we were the better. In my first rotation out, I had a receiver come across the middle, and try to sit in the soft spot of the zone between the CB and FS. He should have held onto the ball, it would have made the shot feel better. I was able to rock him hard, and help set the tone for the rest of us on the game. Next play up, we were in a cover 3, and I am roaming the middle, they flood the right side, trying to tie the CB up, and hoping he would mess up. The pass was on, right through the WR's hands, hitting his face mask, the ball shot in the air. I caught it in full stride, as I was able to return the INT, without a WR or RB chasing me. 2 more plays of stuffing, and we were out. Next series, our SS rocked one of their WRs. Better hit than I laid out. And the WR was debating on whether or night he wanted to get up. My next series out, Cover 3, they try and flood the left side with 3 WR's, and a tipped ball shot right into my hands, again, full stride, INT Return, with no one chasing. We held them for another 3 plays and we rotated out. We had 2 more series, but not a lot happened. The offense found a Rhythm though. Which was a positive thing to see.
Breaking into Team O and Team D scrimmage was a blast. Everyone had that skip to them now, and it was good to finally see some OL and DL. Big Lloyd, our 6' 4" 335lb OL, generally plays at the G was back. He was in a car accident 2 months ago, that tweaked his back and neck. He had missed the game, and was ready to go.
Offense came out running, defense came out hitting. Offense gained a few yards on their opening series. Team Scrimmage was a stalemate for most of it. With a few bright spots.
Bright Spot #1 - I was roaming the middle in a cover 1, watched a WR pull a drag across the middle, and saw the QB. His eyes lit up seeing an open WR in the middle, as he released I broke, stepping in front of the WR in his route. INT return for a TD.
Bright Spot #2 - Our ILB was covering Hook to Curl area in our Cover 3, and the QB went to throw the ball away. Shoda, tipped and picked, returning the ball for a TD
Bright Spot #3 - Fontaine, our Athlete on Offense, ran a post corner, 20 yards down field, had the CB beat, caught it TD.
Bright Spot #4 - Energy of Tigger, our bruising RB. The guy is a truck, and his motor never stops. And every hit he takes, makes him stronger. He trucked our SS with a solid stuff arm. I had wrapped him, and stood him up. He just wasn't going down, and we went to the sidelines, until the whistle blew. I think our SS is still trying to figure out what the hell hit him.
Bright Spot #5 - Trips left, I cheat to the trips side of the field. Ball is snapped, and I roam to the middle of their routes, dropping back to the deepest man. Ball is thrown, and wouldn't you know it, right to me. However, I went for the bat down with one hand instead of the pick. It was a good defense, I just felt like I had somone coming up fast and hard for the ball behind me, and a bat down is just as good.
Overall, one of the best practices for me. I definately feel I earned the starting spot at FS, however, I truly feel politics will beat me here, and I will be rotating in as a 2nd teamer. No worries though. I refuse to be a weak link, and I always play balls out.
The team did well, and I truly feel we will do well on Saturday. I am concerned about our QB's and would like to see them generate a good Rhythm on Saturday. We could seriously hang up over 40 points on this team easily. Defense is solid, and will be one of the best in the league. I gurantee this. We didn't lose much in talent, when we created this new team, in fact, I truly feel we gained a lot.
Saturday is gametime. I won't post the update till Sunday Afternoon though.
Oh and the new pads, they are so light and tight fitting, I didn't even notice them. They are awesome pads. Still can't beat getting $200 pads for $50.

52 - 6 !!
What more can I say? We kicked their ass. Handed it to them in a plastic bag, and sent them home.
The weather for the game, started out, overcast, with a 30 percent chance of showers, however with our game sitting at 4 pm, and hearing that the evening would produce a 60 percent chance, we knew it was coming.
As teams were divided up, my fears were relayed to me, I was 2nd team FS. Meaning, I wasn't able to see game time unless a few things happened.
1) Free Saftey was injured
2) We were ahead by enough
I was on the kick off team though.
1st qtr
Starting out, our defense came out on fire. And we held them to nothing. With a lot of hard hitting.
Our offense came out, and moved the ball a little, but was not yet clicking on all cylinders. They held us.
Our first score, was by our defense, as my buddy Dave Smith, came up from the SS spot, making the play, he put his helmet right onto the ball, it shot out, our Free Saftey scooped it up, and ran it in.
Offense then kicked it in gear a bit more, marched a little farther down field, but sputtered out.
Our second score came from offense, a nice streak, up the field, where our WR outjumped the DB for the ball, then carried the DB and FS into the end zone for the TD.
End of 1st qtr score was 12 - 0
I will finish more a little later.

Alright, time is limited this week to finish. This may hinder the glory of this first win.
I spent the night up till midnight last night with the wife in the hospital, she is sick, and I still had to get up at 5 am to come into work.
Anyways moving on, brief game breakdown for me.
I was set in on Kickoff Return as a head hunter, my favorite, I get to run down and murder whoever gets in my way.
1st return out there, I tackle the return man on the 5. Setting up our defense to force a fumble in the end zone, and scoring.
Next play down, they bobble the kickoff, and not having total control, fumble it, as soon as I collide into them. Allowing for our return, and setting the offense up for a 30 yard TD drive.
After that, they ran their returns to the other side, where they were able to pick up more yardage.
For me, the rest of the game was pretty uneventful as the weather kicked in and made passing non existent. I played the entire 2nd half at Free Saftey, but the major factor there was that we were up 35 - 6.
I was in on one tackle, other than that, our DL and LB got the job done, and I didn't have to do much.
The knockout shot to their QB came in the 4th qtr from a Corner Blitz.
The game was fun, but against the 16th ranked team in the league.
Our first true test comes this weekend against the Blitz. Some of our former team, a lot of bad vibes and such.
If anyone has any questions, please ask them. I apologize for the poor finish on this, but to much of the real life hampered it.
Next week should be better

Gameday!
Weather is set to be bright, sunny and in the low 60's. We should have a great game.
We play our former team. A lot of crap has been said, and the anger towards old management is there. Our old owner also plays QB, I think he is going to get his ass kicked. He is the most vocal one, and has said extremely negative stuff about some of his former players that play for us. (Myself included)

Wolverines win 21 - 0
In a hard fought battle that wasn't truly decided until the middle of the 4th qtr, the Utah Wolverines shutout the Utah Blitz.
The Blitz were my former team as well as 14 other players on the Wolverines including the 4 owners who broke off to form the Wolverines. Anyways, things had been said from the owner of the Blitz about the 15 of us, and the main thing that got us riled the most was his statement that we did not matter. That we did nothing for the Blitz. A lot of us were the Blitz starting D last season, which was ranked 8th in the nation. It looks like the Wolverines will keep it that tradition alive.
Several factors that hurt the Blitz were:
1) Only 1 true WR, he was their go to guy and they were looking for him constantly.
2) No kicking game. They went for it on 4th down several times as their punter from last season was playing for us. Same with their FG's, their kicker from last season, is playing with us. Funny thing is, they are also WRs so they are not kicking for us.
3) Their OL - It was a boon for them they were so big, it just happened that they were TO BIG. They had no endurance and were dying at the end of the game.
The on positive for the Blitz is that Labounty (Blitz Owner and QB) didn't play in this game. He knew he would be a dead man if he did. He came out and played one series in the 3rd qtr. Was pulverized, and put in their other QB.
Our offense scored twice. The first TD was setup by the defense as our DT broke through and slaughtered the QB as he was releasing the ball. It went on a lame duck up and down. Our corner dove, making the catch, jumping up and running for about 10 to 15 yards. This gave the ball to the Offense on the Blitz 35. They marched down and scored with a small out route to the right side of the end zone.
Our special teams/punt return did an awesome job this game. We knew they had no punter, so when they started kicking it, they weren't really prepared for punt returns.
Most of the punts were short, so we were not able to return. However, the 2nd return of the game, we started to the left, and took it back to the right, and ran it all the way, with an awesome wall set up on the right side by the return team. Our returner, was touched once, and that was as the guy dove for him and rolled off his legs. 78 yard return for a touchdown.
Another return set up our offense up for their 2nd touchdown of the game. As they only had to take it in from the 40 of the Blitz. Where the first play was a run to the right, it looked to be up the 6 hole, and our little running back took it down to the 5. We ate the clock with 2 minutes left, taking the full time, and diving it up the gut for 3 plays for the TD.
The Blitz were a demoralized team. A team that let emotion get to them more than anything. As they had stupid penalties at key times.
Anyway, as next week happens, I will not be here, I am going out of town. So the Helena game will not be reported on.
Any questions, let me know.

Well, politics are flying high right now, and even though the defensive coordinator knows I am better than the one owner playing saftey, I wasn't able to get into the game till the end, where the Blitz had all but given up, and nothing came my way.
As for Kickoffs, I was moved from headhunter to outside contain man due to the fact that last week, our opponent on their returns, made it to the outside and got more yards than the should have.
I did save a return for a TD as the player was breaking through for an open romp. I stepped down, and was able to crank him from the side. He didn't realize I was there, but he was still solid, felt like I was hitting a brick wall. He went down though.
My frustrations are high right now, as I know the 2 players playing at SS and at FS almost cost us the game as they refused to come out, and they were wore out.

Well, the events happened and actually took place.
I am now the offensive coordinator, living a somewhat dream.
I have coached High School football as a defensive coordinator, as I understand how to rip offense and defenses apart. I also feel I have a nice judge of talent.
The reigns of the offense are mine now, and I am currently in the process of building a personell around me.
The major problem with the previous coordinator was he did not take criticizm, did not want to run the offense the head coach wanted, and did not want help from others.
I am embracing the help from a person in each skilled position to take the reigns and help coach, and help me build the depth chart. I know the talent level already, I also know that this offense could and should be hanging 40 points up on any defense. It's built that way, and the reason the spread offense was chosen was this league does not have the secondaries to handle it.
Well, this Dynasty just took a wild turn.
If you want to know, I truly feel like I made a sacrifice for the team. I hung my pads up, and I honestly don't think I will be taking them down again. It hurts, and it's like losing something important to you. I am 30 yrs old, and never truly had the chance to move beyond High School ball due to the fact of a blown knee my senior year. This has allowed me to prove to myself I still have the talent and abilities to take it a notch above high school. I was playing with and against former Div I and Professional players, and I was hanging. I know they are former for a reason, but they still have that talent, they still have that knowledge.
I have the faith that is needed in my squad, to succeed, and I truly feel I will be successful, and able to carry this team towards their ultimate goal, a championship.

Well, the first practice without padsand holding a playsheet.
It went very well. The team owners were expecting improvement and a variety of plays.
Well I put together some combinations that were deadly and ate the #1 defense in the league apart. Granted it was only practice, and we were missing the #1 FS, he still wouldn't have been able to cover.
Out of the 36 plays that were called in team scrimmage, we completed 21 of them (Runs, passes) for 250 yards and 3 TD's. There were 7 dropped balls that would have added an additional 50 to 70 yards onto this. So we had the potential to go 28 of 36.
The script I created should shred the defense at the start on Saturday.

So I am still out of town, however I was updated on the results.
34 - 0 for the Wolverines with the Offense scoring 4 TD's. From what I have heard we should have put 4 more up.
That is impressive, as the offense showed the team exactly what can happen when they do click.
Our defense is now #1 in the league.

Sorry for the delay in the update.
Trip up to Boise was.....Bad.
We went up without our punter/kicker/backup OL, A QB, Starting WR(Due to injury), Starting LB, and Starting SS.
We came out flat, as most of the team did the 6 hour drive up there the day of the game.
Needless to say we lost 29 - 13, and we lost because we shot ourselves in the foot. We had 2 INT's that ended some killer drives, and a fumble on the 2 as our Slot man was fighting his way to the End Zone, this play alone took the air out of the team.
We pretty much marched the ball down the field, and then had mistakes to stall the drive. The way the DBs were playing our WR's and Slot's it gave us the out routes all day, which we hit. They were stacking the box on us and we couldn't run it, so we kept to the air. When they started running delay blitzes on us, our OL was unable to recognize and pick it up. Thus taking away any passing time for our QB.
Needless to say, we had 186 yards passing, and 136 yards rushing.
Our defense was really flat and arm tackling, I swear, we were looking at a different team out there.
Anyways, I didn't have anyone to keep track of my tic sheet, but I will this next week as we host the Layton Longhorns.

Time to make up for a loss, and we should do it easily. We are playing a team that allowed over 564 yards last week against the team we beat 34 - 0.
We should have everyone at the game, and an ability to smash the hell out of these guys on the ground.
We have one goal this game besides winning. Perfect Execution. That is what is killing us.
We hope to have it.

What more can I say, our offense did admirably, as we marched down the field left and right, However, at halftime the score was only 8-0. This was due to the fact that the Referee, hates a bunch of guys on our team, calling ticky tack fouls and such. In our leg, you can chop block, as long as the other player is not engaged with another. Well, we had 3 drives killed because of 3 "illegal chop block" penalties, that were long plays. The defender wasn't engaged with another, and it was in the backfield by our RB, eating their boys alive as they blitzed.
I generally go with a 2 QB rotation, as I am trying to figure out a starter, however, our 2nd QB was sick all day, and his head wasn't there in the 2nd QTR. I honestly have to say, I have found my starter. He did throw a pick in the 4th, and when he went to make the play, he took a helmet to his non throwing hand. It puffed up a big knot on it. It looked like he had a baseball under the skin.
Anyways, he was fine, popped a blood vessel or two, and has a big ol bruise on it. Other than that, the phone call I received at midnight last night was informing me no bones were broken.
This team we played were classless, and I hate talking like that, but they cheapshoted, showed up in whites when we as home team, informed them to bring their darks. I do feel bad for them though, 2nd week in the season, they had a mass exodus of players, and they are left with around 22 players. They get props in the heart department for sticking it out.
I have yet to view the game film but we should have easily over 200 yards rushing and I would say only about 140 passing, but the running game was there so we took it.
No injuries from us, one of our WR's returned from a DIV III College program he has been playing for, and he scored the first TD on a quick slant.
Anyways, more updates will follow as the scene changes.

05-22-2004, 09:25 AM
Gameday,
this past week was quite a challange as a lot of dissent and unhappiness has been shining through the team this week. I now know what a lot of college and professional programs go through, although theirs is probably 10 times worse than what I am dealing with.
I do at times have to say, some of these guys are the biggest bitchers and whiners I have ever seen. If they don't touch the ball, they bitch and moan. If they aren't on the field they bitch and moan. Other guys don't understand the philosophy of an offense and scream and yell about doing it one way or another. Well, It's my offense, plays are called to dissect a defense, and help set up other plays for the future. I truly believe in setting my draws up, setting my play actions up, and setting up the jet (out and up). In order to be successful at these kinds of plays, you MUST set them up. Throw the out two or three times, then come back with a pump fake, and hit the receiver as he turns, catching the corner stepping up to play the out route over the top. Pound the ball, and go to the play action. Pass enough times, and the draw opens WIDE open.
Our offensive line, they get quite complacent as I have found out. They love to run the ball, as they get to hit.
This week, we play Mountain Home, they are 0 - 5, only scoring 6 points in their 5 games. Mountain Home is a military base (I think AF) up in Idaho, most of the guys on their team are Military, they are tough, enduring, and scrappy. They have allowed over 1000 yards rushing this season, and 900 yards passing. They have a very weak D. I plan on exploiting it.
A win in this game and we will have earned a playoff spot. We need to win out the other 2 final league games to take the #1 seed. If not, it is more than likely we will see the #2 or #3 seed. So it is time to set the tempo, we want to peak in 3 weeks time, against the #1 team not only in the league, but in the nation, the Rhino-Raiders.
I plan on coming out running the ball, taking advantage of their weakness, and allowing me to set up some passing. I then plan on using the pass like a precision instrument, cutting this defense apart. We need the yardage, we need the points.
Since taking over the offense, we have moved from 15th to 9th in overall offense, and I feel if we play a top notch game today, we can propel ourselves to 6th.
Anyway, I will update the game information tomorrow as after the game, I am going out with the wife, no kids this weekend, their grandparents wanted to take them. (WOHOO!!)

Wolverines 64 Mountain Home 0
I have one thing to say about Mountain Home, they played with Heart. This is a team that drove down from Idaho the day of the game, were pulled over on their way here, stuck in traffic on the ol' I-15 due to an accident.
Showed up with 15 players 40 minutes late, and still went all out.
This game, we needed the offensive output we received, it was a confidence booster. Our OL, our QB, our RB and our WR's all needed it. Our QB finally checked down his receivers.
First half was all offense as we scored everytime we touched the ball, ending the half up 35-0. Our defense/special teams were the factor in the 2nd half. As they scored all but twice (The only two times the offense was out in the 2nd half we scored).
This week is a non league game against the Wasatch Wildcats, we are more concerned about being healthy, than stomping them. A win would elevate us into one of the top teams in the nation, however, a loss, and honestly, we wouldn't care.

We are playing a non league game tonight against one of the better teams around. The Wasatch Wildcats.
The Wildcats are a well ran organziation with a lot of money backing them and proper coaching. Former BYU, NFL, and CFL players are on the staff. Former BYU, UofU players are on the team.
It's going to be a tough game, as we do want to win, but we don't want to hurt the starters. Our 2 final season games are more important than anything else. A win tonight is gravy for the national rankings, and will propel us higher. A loss, and we drop some.
If our offense clicks like last week, then we can beat these guys. Our defense will hold them above all. Our offense will be our strong or weak spot here.

2) We need more OL, and we need more guys with Pride in their position.
I must apologize for the shortness of the thread. I was extremely upset at the events in a game where we actually had control of it first, and was marching down the field. We, as an offense made a few mistakes (A Fumble, and an INT) that killed some drives. Anyways, once the team got down, the defense jumped all over the offense, and from then on, we weren't fighting one battle but two.
Team chemistry and psyche is extremely important, especially in a first year team. A championship team stays even keeled through the ups and downs of a game, it is what makes them a championship team. No one panics, they just go out, and do their jobs.
Well, in a first year team, if the chemistry isn't there then you really have to take advantage of the upswing, and dig deep for heart in the down swing.
This game, we had a nice upswing, but when the downswing happened, we only had a few players dig deep, the others threw in the towel and you could see that. This is what upset me.
We also had the call for this one athlete on the team to be placed into QB, cause his "legs" could get us out of sticky situations, well, guess what, he wasn't even in for 5 minutes into the 4th qtr, and he was begging me to pull him out, which I gladly did. He did make 2 good plays, but that was it. He was sacked in the endzone for a saftey, and took some serious shots too.
This I hope changes the mindset of him at QB, because you know what, if you receive the snap, and don't have time to bring the ball up to throw, then you are screwed, and honestly that is what happened the entire game.
I know one of my OL reads this board, and this isn't directed towards him, he is one of the hardest working guys on the team with a ton of pride refusing to be beat. But for most of the OL, they have no pride, and if they do, it doesn't appear, and it pains me to say this, they need to suck it up. We are limited in OL, and we cannot be succesful without them.
Anyways, the challanges of coaching are there. The backstabbing political train has been as well. A lot of things were said this weekend to ownership and management, and we will see if this turns around. We enter the final 2 weeks of the season, trying to move up the playoff brackets so we can keep the playoffs at home. 1 team, will be a battle but we should survive. But the other team, is better than this team we played. And if we don't pull our heads out, we are screwed.

Gameday!
Hot weather here in Utah and the game is at 3pm. This is an important game, if we win we host a playoff game, if we lose, we have to win next week against the #1 team in the league to host or we travel to Montana for a playoff game. Our team doesn't travel well.
The team we play against runs a 4-3 and we are looking to attack the soft zones in the 4-3. Our line was taught a blocking scheme that is very simple and easy to do for them, so we should not see a repeat of last week.
I am limited with WRs this week as one is attending a funeral, the other is stuck with work.
I have a RB with a messed up foot from cliff jumping in Lake Powell, and a rag tag OL.
I am hoping that the game last week was a wake up call for a lot of them, as we are pusing towards the championship, and we need to win. We HAVE to win.

Wolverines come from behind, and win.
We were down at halftime, lost our starting QB on our second possesion. and we pulled off the win 21-13.
The Nemesis have been scouting our games for about the past 3 weeks, and I have been setting a lot of our running out of the I back set. So coming into this game, I decided to spread it out more, and run from our single back set.
We dominated this team, but again, stupid mistakes that a first year team tends to have shot ourselves in the foot. We overcame a 3 Int/4 fumble game to take this one.
My OL, playing in 90 degree weather with only 1 sub for rotation, deserves a pat on the back, and that they got.
With this win, we guranteed ourselves hosting a first round playoff game, and not traveling to Montana.

As we look towards Saturdays game, this one means a lot. A #1 seed for the playoffs is riding on the line. As well as a lot of pride. The team we play is honestly one of the best out there and are stacked with Talent.
Our offense can exploit their defense, and our defense should shut them down well.

Tomorrow at 6 pm #1 vs #2.
The Rhino-Raiders, #1 in the nation, undefeated in league play for the past 4 seasons will host the 1st year team, Utah Wolverines, for a game to determine the #1 seed heading into the playoffs.
It's the meaner, nastier older brother getting ready to pick on the little one. However, this little brother is prepared. Our offense, our defense has been built for this game specifically. This is OUR championship, this is it for us. We want this game more than anything. We want to take these guys down a notch. They have no respect for us at all, and it is apparent on the league message board. We are the Wolverqueens to them.
Needless to say, I am going into this game without my starting QB, but the backup has stepped up admirably and is ready to go.
We should have some decent weather tomorrow night for the game.
I will follow up Sunday on how it goes.

Wolverines 0, Rhino Raiders 42
Lets hope no one from the board attended this game. It was a complete disgrace.
Actually, we were into the game in the first qtr, but then almost everyone gave up.
It was frustrating to watch. I had several people tell me I called the best game all season long. To me that was comforting to know, that I called the right plays but that the WR's and QB's were not executing. Our OL did their job, and did it decently until a few of them gave up.
Can't complain, our defense gave up to, allowing 42 points on a team to me, that wasn't to impressive.
The game got out of hand though for the refs, and a lot of sucker punching, ankle twisting, and serious trash talking was going on. We hate each other, and it came out big time.
Problem is, if we are to meet them, we will have to win 2 games in playoff conditions. If the team that showed up Saturday shows up next week. Our season is done. Hard to control emotions of players.

Well,
Amazing how things change. I have been asked as of today to don the pads and move into the Free Saftey position, as I am the only one with experience that can play back there. This week we had a corner play and the week before a LB.
Looks like I am going to see the light of day at the FS spot. I am going to be starting.
My friend who helped build the offense along with myself, is taking over the calling of the offense. He was a SS, but is injured, he has tore his ligaments in his left foot, and seperated his shoulder. So he will call, why I play. We win win again in this situation.

Shine time at practice!
I went back, and did well forcing the offense to throw away from me. Makes me excited, I can't wait till this Saturday, and I can actually make a serious impact on this game.
We are in the playoffs, and we play the team that gave us our first losss. It will be tough, as I don't know if our line will show for the offense, and it may rest on our backs. But our D in the first game, the FS had dropped 4 picks. I hope I can get to touch 4 of them this week.

How does one write about the ultimate disappointment, a desire smashed.
The last two games of the season, actually both playoff games, where I was brought down from the coaching box to play FS, never happened.
I suited up, I was a special teams standout, but due to the one owner having a question about my speed, I never saw the PT at the position I was supposed to be playing. I didn't fit the role I guess, I wasn't buff enough? I still had a small belly, but nothing that hindered. I don't know where he got his speed issue from. I was never beat deep by any of our faster players, I managed to keep with them step for step. So speed to me, shouldn't have been an issue. I truly feel it was my physical appearance.
I have taken this to heed, and I am using it as fuel for my Gym work. I am now officially working out, 5 days a week (4 weight days, 1 cardio/running) and I am working for my goals of hitting 185 in weight, trimming the body fat and increasing my speed. The desire is there to prove to this one owner to piss off.
Anyways, back to the games.
Qtr Final playoff game was a nail biter, we were down 24 - 7 going into the 4th qtr. We still did not write ourselves off, and we managed to rattle of 21 unanswered points, and take the lead 28 - 24 with 35 seconds left in the game. We won, and moved onto the Semi's. I played well on the special teams, setting up the key block for a KR for a TD, and several tackles on Kickoff that held them deep in their own territory.
Semi final game, we travelled to Idaho Falls. It was a defensive battle, where the only score was an INT returned by Idaho Falls for a TD. Game ended 6-0, we should have one. My one buddy that took over the OC position didn't make the trip due to his mother in law passing away. I asked the owner/coach if I should call the game, and he said no, let Dean (Our QB) and Joe (The First OC I replaced and now our fastest WR) call the offense. I truly feel if I would have been able to call it, we would have won, but oh well.
Our team, as a first year team did very well, and was quite unexpected by a lot of teams to get as far as we did.
Anyways, this thread will remain, as I drop weight, and increase strength and speed, I will be posting my weight and speed times, when I am measured.
I need to set up a body fat % test with the Gym, and make sure I reduce it down.
Current Weight - 206 - I have lost 6 pounds in the past 2 weeks, since I started lifting.
Current Speed - ?? - I haven't been timed on my 40, but I would say it's probably a 4.7 maybe a 4.8. I know I can get it back down to a 4.5/4.6 by the time indoor ball happens, which I will have in this thread as well.
Weight training - I am currently doing circuit training, going long and lean on the muscles, building up the endurance that is needed.
