I find gameplanning in FOF2K4 an utter mystery... Coming from FOF2 it's very unwieldy. Recently I've just set the global options to let the computer handle it. What are you guys experience with letting the computer run the gameplans?

One season I had a QB with a good rating in screens and set my screen percentage somewhere up around the 30-40 and still couldn't tell it was helping alot. I was only getting about 6-7 screens per game.

I'm pretty successful with leaving the computer in control, but would like the satisfaction of massaging it myself.

Thanks,
Roderick

Well 6-7 screens per game would be about 30% of your passes if your team is only throwing about 21 times per game. How often was your team throwing per game? Was the screen percentage set for 30-40% in all offensive game plan screens (and situations)?

Personally, I like to let the computer run my gameplan in some of my dynasties and it seems to do a good job. In other dynasties, I choose to take control. In multiplayer, I always tune it to my satisfaction.

By the way, your game plans might not like the way you are massaging them, which might be part of the problem ;)

In all seriousness, I find managing gameplans to be very rewarding but it does take some time get used to the complexity of it.

I've found that the computer in general does a pretty good job. Keep in mind that it seems to adjust the gameplan based on how the game is going: if your running back is gaining yards, you'll run more often than if he's not regardless of the gameplan.

However, it does tend to create a general gameplan for your offense that does not account for the other team's defense. So you can sometimes exploit weaknesses by planning yourself. Or in at least one case, I decided on defense that I was not worried about the other team's running game, and set up a pure pass-oriented defense that shut him down completely.

So the computer seems to handle the general case fine, but you're better off doing it yourself if you want to exploit something in particular.
