View Full Version : Does anyone use "mock" drafts?

Just curious... Does anyone else run a "mock" draft? I usually save the game before the draft and then run one just to see about where guys should fall. It helps to keep me from drafting like Arizona. This way I avoid jumping to grab a DT that goes late in the 2nd rd. Sometimes the "real" draft falls just about like the mock, sometimes there's a trade and everything goes haywire (just like real life)

no, I would consider it a way of cheating, but that's just me.

Sounds like cheating to me, too... but I kinda like it. :D

I don't think its cheating. I remember reading an article that said that most teams can predict with about 75% accuracy where a player will fall in the first 2 rounds, barring trades. That being said I havn't used them and I think if I did I would import the draft into an alternate career to gain some variability.

Cheating to me would be "accidentally" exiting a career instead of saving before exiting after week one when your ONLY remaining good WR gets a high ankle sprain on the first play of the game. Damn it, accidents happen. But I'm gonna start a new career with the new patch, so...

For my past season, I conducted my own mock draft -- meaning I went through and handpicked who the computer would pick. It was incredibly tedious, but kind of interesting at the same time. I definitely learned a lot about the players in the draft that way, and about the way the computer makes selections.

I was fairly right on with my predictions -- and where I was off, it added a sense of players rising and falling on draft day.

Because originally I was planning on moving up from the 1(22) spot, I did a mock draft of 1-21, and then when it was my turn, I mocked 22-32 (already knowing the real first 21 picks).

The results are over in my Frickin' Eagles dynasty, if you want to look.

edit: It was very interesting to draft based on slotting... I moved down to grab the player I wanted, and it was rewarding to do...

I like doing my OWN mock draft taking a look at team's needs and the players. I don't use the game to assist me in any way to do this. I would consider that a form of cheating.

I admit I sometimes do it. I don't consider it cheating because in real life teams use scouting services galore that make these kinds of projections and have way, way more information available to them than the game gives us. Plus it's not exactly fullproof. I have seen picks change from draft to draft and lost out on guys I thought I could get from these "mock" drafts, so it's not a sure thing.

It should be in the game because it is an important part of real-life NFL off-season. Not only that, there should be a commentary on each player's draft projection and his strengths/weaknesses.

This is what I do too. It's makes the draft a lot more interesting and is a great way to get familiar with all the players.

I'm actually a bit disapointed when a draft does fall exactly as mocked. Then I pick a different player than the computer did and screw everything up... heh heh heh...
