TVFL: http://tvfl.cobaltice.net (http://tvfl.cobaltice.net/)

Last year, I almost went to San Diego to take over the Chargers, but my heart led me back to St. Louis as I wanted to get back to the Super Bowl. We came up short on a blocked FG (which later turned into a TD and the game for NO) and once again I'm faced with an offer from San Diego. Since either option is fine with me, I though I'd leave it up to FOFC members. I have some rare free time all day today, so hopefully I can get enough votes to make a decision today, as I want to get started on 2009. Thanks again for your votes!

A little (Rams) history:

2003: (10-6) Lost to Philadelphia in WC
2004: (8-8) Did not make playoffs
2005: (9-7) Lost to Detroit in DC
2006: (13-3) Div. winner, Beat Cincinnatti in SB
2007: (13-3) Div. winner, Lost to Philadelphia in LC
2008: (13-3) Div. winner, Lost to New Orleans in DC

Totals: (66-33-0) The best winning % in the league.

San Diego:

2003: (3-13) Last place in con.
2004: (4-12) Last place in con. (tied)
2005: (6-10) Last place in div.
2006: (7-9) Last place in div.
2007: (6-10) Last place in con. (tied)
2008: (4-12)

Totals: (30-66) The worst winning % in the league. The Chargers have never been to a playoff game. Never, ever, zero, zlitch.

Pros of staying in St. Louis
1. Mark Bulger. This guy is already #1 in TD's thrown in the TVFL, and could be the top QB the Rams have ever witnessed for a long, long time. I love to see him play and staying there would insure he retires a Ram.

2. I've been here for 6 years and know this team inside and out, plus I've grown attached (strong affinity) to my players.

3. Cap Hell: This team is already $40,000 over the cap to start 2009 with only 33 players signed. Would this be a terrible way to leave? "See ya, have fun putting a team together." :)

Pros of going to San Diego
1. My hand picked coaching staff (all 3) are up for new contracts and I could possibly bring them with me to San Diego. My HC just recieved the Coach of the Year award. I would think the Rams would up the ante in negotiation talks though.

2. Challenge. Taking over a team who's never been to a playoff team in 6 seasons? Quite a challenge indeed.

I could probably list more pros and cons, but I'm wanting to get this out asap. I know the traffic here is slow on Sundays, but I'm on a Fof run.

I appreciate your votes.

I think if you hadn't mismanaged the salary cap, you wouldn't even be considering the move. You should stay with St. Louis and fix the problem rather than taking the easy way out. It sounds like St. Louis will be much more of a challenge anyway.

Actually, I've been this way for the last two years. I have no worries about getting the cap manageable, I just don't know if the CPU AI could handle it.

:)

Thanks for the input! Staying in STL is just as good.

I say stay and see how far you can take Bulger. Once he retires, find a crappy team and move there. Then you can try and develop a QB who will perform even better.

When I have many good seasons in a row, but fail to win the big game, I usually just pack up and leave...at least I did in NCAA 2004, when I got Northwestern to a Rose Bowl, but could never put together that undefeated season, so I went to Troy State to try and get that team in a conference.

Go to San Diego. It's more fun to rebuild last place teams than it is to keep winners on top. :)

I'm going watch "Radio" with the wife, keep the votes coming.

Still very close....

Decent movie...

Votes are dead even at 19-19. I'll run this poll until the free agency problem has been fixed.

Not sure which you should choose, but if you turn down SD, you should forbid yourself from considering them for at least 5-10 years since, in this fantasy world, you essentially expressed interest in them, received an offer, and rejected it twice in two years. In real life, you wouldn't get away with a third bite at the apple without the press/fans all over your ass, or all over the management of SD's ass for once again courting the guy who spurned them two years in a row.

I'd probably learn toward staying, but that's because when I play, I tend to stick with one team for at least 10-15 years, minimum.

I was thinking about this today. If I stay in St. Louis, it will be for say, another 6 year contract or until I win the Super Bowl again.

Thanks for the input,

dude, screw St. Louis. You gave them a winning team, leave that cap mess for some other schmuck to handle. Go to San Diego, where you can lounge on the beach for a few hours after practice and play on real grass.

Wow, tied up. It's gonna be a great stretch run. By the way, I voted for San diego. Prettier, better weather, better challenge, and st louis looks like a team that won't be able to get that little bit farther.

yabanci,

I didn't really notice this, but San Diego is just as bad if not worse.

Players under contract: 30
Cap Room: $9,540,000
Maximum for New Player: $2,340,000
Cap Room Lost (to old contracts): $13,780,000

Yikes!!

yeah, San Diego will be a challenge too. What are the numbers for St. Louis?

Of course St. Louis has 33 players signed, which isn't much of a difference and they need to free up over $4 mil for rookies. Maybe San Diego is going to be easier.

oops, I misread your initial message and though it said you somehow got yourself $40 million over the cap (not $40 thousand). That's why I said you mismanaged the cap and thought it would be lame to leave. Now that I've got the picture right, it makes sense what you are doing.

Well, they still have some salary to cut if they want to sign their draft picks, but San Diego needs a complete overhaul. I do have Chad Pennington to build around though. :)

Update:

I won my division and my record is currently 10-5. A win locks up a bye week in round 1 of the playoffs. HA! Year 1 with the Chargers and I made it by pure determination, good coaching, and luck.

Thanks, I think this was a good decision, although the Rams are at 12-3.

dola x2,

I won my last game in OT and now have a bye in the first round of the playoffs. (11-5)

Not too shabby for a team who has never been in the playoffs prior my extensive knowledge. :)
