View Full Version : From NCAA to the NFL (a joint NCAA/Madden dynasty)

Borrowing from WussGawd and mtaystl03's dynasties, my brother and I have decided to do our own joint dynasty using EA Sports' NCAA Football 2004 and Madden Football 2004 to follow the careers of several recruits through college and the NFL. These recruits will include the top player from each of these positions: QB, HB, WR, TE, DT, LB, CB, K.

We started a new NCAA dynasty and immediately quit the job. We simulated the 2003 season (results to come) and selected our players. For the NFL, we first made a few adjustments to the default rosters on Madden, including the moving of Lawyer Milloy to Buffalo and the improvement of a few players who proved to be surprises in real life, most notably Rudi Johnson of Cincinnatti and Domanic Davis of Houston. We then simulated the 2003 season (results to come as well). My bro and I will be controlling every NFL team, but we have delegated all functions to the CPU except for setting depth charts, as we feel the game does a terrible job at this because it significantly overvalues youth. Michael Strahan, a 90+ overall, should not be sitting on the bench behind a 70 something overall rookie.

Without further ado, I give you "From NCAA to the NFL"!

>We’re looking at a Super Bowl rematch!

Super Bowl
Buccaneers (13-6) 19, Raiders (15-4) 7
[I]> It was a sloppy Super Bowl with eight turnovers. The name of the game was defense, with 455 yards of combined offense. Jerry Rice had 7 catches for 70 yards and scored a TD in what is probably his last game in the NFL. Derrick Brooks was the Buccaneers MVP with 12 tackles, 1 sack, and a fumble forced. The Buccaneers jumped out early to a ten point lead following a 48 yard Martin Gramatica field goal and a 3 yard TD plunge by Thomas Jones following a blocked Shane Lechler punt. In a game of field position, the Bucs averaged 45.7 yards per punt to the Raiders 32.0 yards per punt.

QB Scott Ballard – 80 Overall – Currently backing up Vince Young, a redshirted sophomore at Texas. Number 2 on the depth chart. He has good speed and a strong arm with mediocre accuracy. Doesn’t need to worry about competing for the job with the third string QB who is a redshirt junior without much upside. May only get a year or two as a starter because Young is NFL caliber and has a solid hold on the starting job.

HB Eric Woodson – 83 Overall – Currently number 4 on the Longhorn depth chart behind a senior and 2 juniors. Will have a good shot at starting before he graduates or leaves for the NFL. In fact, he is the only Texas HB (among 5) younger than a junior. Has decent speed (not outstanding) but has a great first step and the ability to break a defender’s ankles with his great agility. Needs work on his ball carrying and ability to break tackles as well as his knowledge of the game.

WR Tim Mays – 82 overall – Currently number 4 on the Buckeye depth chart, behind a senior and two sophomores. Will likely see significant playing time this season when the team runs 4 and 5 wideout sets. Considered to be the fastest player on the team. Good size and speed combination make him a good deep threat, and can go up for jump balls fairly well. Great first step and soft hands, especially for a freshman. The only thing really lacking is his knowledge of the game. Could use some time in the weight room.

TE Daniel Lamb – 78 overall – Currently listed as the Longhorns' backup tight end for seniority purposes only (starter is a sophomore). He is better than the current starter in many aspects, but needs polishing. Will likely be an impact player in the near future. Has good speed for a tight end. Also has soft hands and carries the ball well, and can break tackles in the open field. However, he is not simply a good pass-catcher, he can also hold his own in the trenches.

DT Rob Walton – 83 overall – Currently the number 2 starter for the Buckeyes behind a redshirted junior. Could easily find himself starting in just a year or two. Has good speed for a player at his position, but could use some work on his strength. Will be a better pass-rusher than run stopper until he develops more in the weight room. He is, however, a good tackler, which will help in plugging holes.

OLB Brandon Booth – 83 overall – Currently number 4 at middle linebacker and not listed on the depth chart on the outside for the Buckeyes. May see playing time on the second team defense or special teams, but likely will not start for another year or two (depending on the decision of junior A.J. Hawk, who is projected by many to leave after this year for the NFL draft). Not very good speed for an OLB, but has great tackling ability and solid strength for a freshman.

CB Jason Tubbs – 79 overall – Currently the number 2 starter for the Trojans behind William Buchanan, a junior. Has spectacular speed but not a great first step. He and fellow freshman Jerry Sands will likely be a very solid tandem in a year or two. Average strength and tackling ability, not great catching, which may be an issue.

K Rod Wiggins – 76 overall – Will replace Billy Bennett as the Bulldogs starting kicker and kickoff specialist. Has great accuracy but needs to work on his leg strength. Has a good head on his shoulders and with experience, he will be an NFL-caliber kicker.

It was a rough preseason injury-wise. The defending champs from Tampa Bay encountered a large bump in their road to a three-peat as they lost DE Simeon Rice for the season. The Eagles were hit hard as well, losing their starting DT Corey Simon for the season and their backup Darwin Walker for 6 weeks. They also lost Pro Bowl FS Brian Dawkins for the season as well. The Seattle Seahawks will be under the leadership of Trent Dilfer as Matt Hasselbeck went down for the season. The Miami Dolphins lost Pro Bowl DE Jason Taylor for the season.

I love this stuff. Keep up the good work. Before I got TCY back I did this same thing with my brother and a couple buddies. We simmed a season and then made ourselves recruits. It was fun watching us decide where we were gonna go and then follow our careers through the college ranks and into the NFL.

It was funny that three of the four of us went to Texas. I was a QB, my buddy was a WR and my brother was a CB. One of my brothers friends went to Nebraska (who we all despise) as a RB.

We were all rated '80' to start and the only one that made any impact in the NFL was the WR who put up Jerry Rice like numbers! It was so fun to follow.

Keep it up.

Thanks for reading, guys. :)

mtaystl03, sounds like you did much the same thing. As for mostly winding up in Texas, were you all Texas natives? NCAA gives some weight to where the players come from in that a lot of them want to go to schools nearby.

Being rated an 80 to start is pretty good. You must have all been in the top 100 of the recruiting class. I'm rather surprised only one of you made an impact in the pros. I assume you all made it pro. Did anyone leave college early?

Hopefully we'll have a few more weeks posted pretty soon.

We were all from Missouri. We live in St. Louis and so we just made everything pretty realistic. It was strange. The runningback from Nebraska left early because he was a stud in college and was drafted by the Dolphins in the 1st round. He sucked after that.

Groza – Dusty Mangum, K, Texas
