18 Attempts at the final battle of Knights of the Old Republic.

That's About 8 hours worth of attempts. Not to mention the 10 hours spent on the Star Forge alone.

But I FINALLY BEAT THAT SON OF A BITCH MALAK!

and you know what?

I can't wait to try again :)

I'm a Star Wars dork so I loved that game! :) I played it twice too. I played as a good Jedi and an evil Jedi. I prefer the good Jedi.

Good, now you've got time to command your two Pz-IVds in the Combat Mission Dynasty. ;)

No way, being evil was soo much more fun...i loved killing the loved ones of everyone on the ship!

For double the fun, play it through as both genders AND both lightside/darkside.

The sidequests actually do change subtly as a result of the gender change.

Yep, I'm midway through the game for the 3rd time. I did light/male, then dark/male, now doing a light/female. Still having fun with the game, but not playing as quickly or as much. Great game.

I played through it twice. Dark Jedi was much more fun.

If you get master speed and master flurry Malak really isn't much of a problem, but otherwise the man (or whatever) is a beast.

I took malak down easy....but maybe that was just me...

Malak was easy for my Jedi with dual wielding, armor, and healing abilities. My other times through the game, he was more difficult.

The Solder/Guardian combo definatly has the easiest time with Malak.

*BOSS SPOILER*

I just used super choke on the dudes that Malak was drawing his power from. Took me a while to figure that out. But once I did that and ran around fast, he went down HARDCORE! OH yeah!

I didn't have a heard time with him. You can pause to game and open up your inventory to immediately use a health pack instead of waiting for it to get through the queue. And I had alot of life support packs after using force heal all game. Using the force guard and speed powers made it a cinch from there.

And how could you spend 10 hours on the Star Forge? There really wasn't much to do there was there? I ran through it in a couple hours tops.

Okay, I'm thisclose to STARTING my battle with Malak, and I don't have any speed powers. I think I'm gonna get a good old-fashioned ass-whuppin'.

I used the speed power so much through the game. They were useful on Tatooine and Dantooine while running through the large open spaces.

*BOSS SPOILER ALERT*

A key thing I did was run away from him quickly and use saber toss to destroy the guys he drew his power from. I figured that out pretty quickly and then he went down fast.

Tip for fighting Malak: Have those "Life Support" heals. Hoard them through the game. When you get low on HP, just use 3 or 4 of them in a row (or however many you need to complete heal up).

Beat it twicw so far. Dark side WAS more fun, imo. Malak was easy with the dark side force powers, I thought.

*Spoilers below?*

Something interesting I noticed the other day, I am trying the game as a female, and not only is Carth hitting on me but freaking Juhnni(sp?) is to! This happened greatest when I took care of her thing with her former slaver. Pretty ballsy to apparently have a lesbian Jedi in the game. Or maybe she goes both ways? She never seemed to be all about the Male Reven.

Is there anyway to make your party evil? I had a problem with the evil Jedi because I thought it was corny sometimes. I'd do something psychotic, and my party members who were supposed to be the good guys would act like I had just put a "Kick Me" sign on someone instead of acting like any decent person whould after the supposed hero decides to kill innocent bystanders. I also wish that the evil Jedi options were closer to the movies. Like most CRPGs that provide an evil option, the game confuses psychotic with evil. Instead of giving me the option to save the damsel in distress only so I can rob here, I either have to be a knight in shining armor who rescues her or a Hannibal Lector type who lets the dragon eat her and laughs about it. Bad guys don't have to be so one-dimensional. :)

***Possible Spoiler***

As a light-side, dual wielding, soldier/guardian with a truck load of healthpacks, force spped and flurry, I found Malak very easy. I just walked right up to him and gave him a beat down. I think I actually saw my character back slap Malak and give him a wedgie. It was too easy. Malak looked like a chicken with his head cut off as he ran around to the imprisoned jedi stealing their force to try to fight me.

What an awesome game though. One of the few that I actually finisehed. I wish they would come out with an expansion or something. I am still on the last stage of Medal of honor and i just haven't gotten around to finishing it.

Well, to the folks who asked how could it take so long on the final location (the StarForge)..

The wave attacks of Dark Jedis and Jedi Apprentices (and the grenade chucking Sith Heavy Troopers) just wore me out.

Then I started saving after each wave (full wave)

The only thing that really pissed me off about the game was that room right before you fight Malak. I had never had to go out of "combat mode" to do something essentially the entire game. **Possible Spoiler** Which is what you need to do to turn those droid machines off. So at the end of what was honestly a 20 hour session (you know how it is when you know you're getting close) I sat and killed those droids for twenty minutes wondering what the hell was supposed to happen. I got so deliriously belligerent that I had to go log on to Gamespot to see what I was supposed to do. Just had to get out of "combat mode," turn off the machines, and then I beat Malak silly first try. Took some of the joy out of the end for me.
